Renormalization group study of one-dimensional systems with roughening transitions
A recently introduced real space renormalization group technique, developed
for the analysis of processes in the Kardar-Parisi-Zhang universality class, is
generalized and tested by applying it to a different family of surface growth
processes.
In particular, we consider a growth model exhibiting a rich phenomenology
even in one dimension. It has four different phases and a directed percolation
related roughening transition. The renormalization method reproduces extremely
well all the phase diagram, the roughness exponents in all the phases and the
separatrix among them. This proves the versatility of the method and elucidates
interesting physical mechanisms.Comment: Submitted to Phys. Rev.
Estos hallazgos son de gran interĂ©s, pues ademĂĄs de verificar la existencia de un segundo complejo balneario pĂșblico en la ciudad plantean la importancia del poblamiento periurbano, una lĂnea de investigaciĂłn totalmente inĂ©dita hasta la fechaBetween the year 2010 and 2012, the University of Cadiz and the Regional Government (Junta de AndalucĂa) have developed archaeological activities in the zone outside the hispano-roman city, in the frame of the General Project of Research titled âThe maritime economy and the halieutic activities in Baelo Claudiaâ. We are presenting in this paper the first results, which have allowed to identify the existence of a western suburbium outside the city, between the riverbed of the so called âarroyo de las Villasâ, the beach and the western necropolis, whose remains have been confirmed by geophysical and archaeological techniques. Inside this area a few structures have been excavated, identified as a Roman baths complex, active from the 2nd up to the 5th century a.D. A big pool, part of the frigidarium and some heated rooms have been unearthed, with very significant findings as part of the marmoreal and sculptural decoration of the complex, which in late roman times was intentionally broken into pieces possibly by religious motives. These findings are of great interest, since beside confirming the existence of the second public thermae of the city they raise the importance of the peri-urban buildings, a new line of research up to dat
Analysis of the Relationship between Lifestyle and Coffee Consumption Habits, from the Myth Approach, in the Municipalities of Orizaba, Tehuipango, and Zongolica Veracruz.
Coffee consumption habits have evolved along with society for more than 300 years around the world. Social changes imply different lifestyles in each culture. Lifestyles influence the myths used by people in their consumption decisions. The objective of this research is to determine the relationship between lifestyle and coffee consumption habits, from the perspective of myth, in the inhabitants of the Mexican municipalities of Orizaba, Tehuipango, and Zongolica. A survey was conducted with a sample of inhabitants of the three municipalities studied. The statistical analyzes applied were the central limit theorem, Pearson, and Chi-square. The results show that the variables Consumption habits-Lifestyle-Myth, are highly dependent on the level of perception of people. It is concluded that the coffee myth corresponds to the "family union" in the study municipalities. This myth is not characterized in the evolutionary stages contemplated in the "waves of coffee"
Recent results on multiplicative noise
Recent developments in the analysis of Langevin equations with multiplicative
noise (MN) are reported. In particular, we:
(i) present numerical simulations in three dimensions showing that the MN
equation exhibits, like the Kardar-Parisi-Zhang (KPZ) equation both a weak
coupling fixed point and a strong coupling phase, supporting the proposed
relation between MN and KPZ;
(ii) present dimensional, and mean field analysis of the MN equation to
compute critical exponents;
(iii) show that the phenomenon of the noise induced ordering transition
associated with the MN equation appears only in the Stratonovich representation
and not in the Ito one, and
(iv) report the presence of a new first-order like phase transition at zero
spatial coupling, supporting the fact that this is the minimum model for noise
induced ordering transitions.Comment: Some improvements respect to the first versio
Prevalence and distribution of intestinal parasites in stray dogs in the northwest area of Mexico
Zoonotic parasitic infections are a major global public and veterinary health problem and widespread among stray dogs. The objective of this study was to establish the prevalence of intestinal parasites in stray dogs in the urban, rural and coastal areas of Mexicali County in northwest Mexico. In 2014, from January to December, 380 stray dogs were captured. The entire small intestine, cecum and faeces samples were collected and examined by using simple zinc sulfate flotation and Lugolâs solution staining. Data were statistically analysed. Overall, about 21.5% of examined dogs were found positive for intestinal parasites. Toxocara canis was the most frequent detected parasite, with a prevalence of 7.1%, followed by Toxascaris leonina (5.5%), Cystoisospora spp. (5.0%), Taenia spp. (3.9%) and Dipylidium caninum (2.8%). Dogs were more frequently found to be infected with a single genus of intestinal parasite (18.7%) than co-infected (2.8%). Intestinal parasites were more prevalent in samples from the coastal area (25%) than in those from the rural (24.4%) and urban (20.6%) areas, however, only statistical association was found between capture area and specific intestinal parasitic infection. There were significant differences in the prevalence of taeniasis among two age groups (P<0.01). A seasonal peak of prevalence for intestinal parasitic infections was found during spring (P<0.05), corresponding with a seasonal peak of prevalence of T. canis (P<0.05). The wide range of isolated parasites indicated that people residing in this area are at risk of exposure to these potentially hazardous zoonotic pathogens
Six More Ultra-Faint Milky Way Companions Discovered in the DECam Local Volume Exploration Survey
We report the discovery of six ultra-faint Milky Way satellites discovered
through matched-filter searches conducted using Dark Energy Camera (DECam) data
processed as part of the second data release of the DECam Local Volume
Exploration (DELVE) survey. Leveraging deep Gemini/GMOS-N imaging (for four
candidates) as well as follow-up DECam imaging (for two candidates), we
characterize the morphologies and stellar populations of these systems. We find
that these candidates all share faint absolute magnitudes (
mag) and old, metal-poor stellar populations ( Gyr, [Fe/H]
dex). Three of these systems are more extended ( pc), while the
other three are compact ( pc). From these properties, we infer
that the former three systems (Bo\"{o}tes V, Leo Minor I, and Virgo II) are
consistent with ultra-faint dwarf galaxy classifications, whereas the latter
three (DELVE 3, DELVE 4, and DELVE 5) are likely ultra-faint star clusters.
Using data from the Gaia satellite, we confidently measure the proper motion of
Bo\"{o}tes V, Leo Minor I, and DELVE 4, and tentatively detect a proper motion
signal from DELVE 3 and DELVE 5; no signal is detected for Virgo II. We use
these measurements to explore possible associations between the
newly-discovered systems and the Sagittarius dwarf spheroidal, the Magellanic
Clouds, and the Vast Polar Structure, finding several plausible associations.
Our results offer a preview of the numerous ultra-faint stellar systems that
will soon be discovered by the Vera C. Rubin Observatory and highlight the
challenges of classifying the faintest stellar systems.Comment: 30 pages, 12 Figures (including Appendix). Submitted to ApJ. We
