Ion-cyclotron Resonance Heating Of Plasmas And Associated Longitudinal Cooling

Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo (FAPESP)We have investigated, via a 1-22 dimensional computer simulation, the possibility of forcing an initially isotropic, magnetized plasma into an anisotropic state by means of an external pump. Strong heating of the perpendicular ion temperature was observed together with a strong cooling of the longitudinal temperature. This mechanism could enhance particle trapping in tokamaks and increase confinement time in mirror machines. We use basic physical arguments to predict the maximum temperature ratio that can be obtained. © 1976 The American Physical Society.3612831FAPESP; São Paulo Research FoundationFundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo (FAPESP

Simulation of the two‐stream convective instability

A ring/disk model is used in numerical experiments to investigate the two‐stream convective instability in a cylindrically symmetric system with finite transverse dimensions. The spatial growth rates obtained in the linear region agree well with the predictions of the linear theory. The development of a vortex structure in velocity‐phase space is associated with the saturation of the instability. Generation and amplification of harmonics occur abundantly as expected. The two electron streams exchange kinetic energy over a very short distance and become thoroughly mixed and randomized (thermalized). Due to the choice of geometry, no coherent oscillations are established in the transverse plane, and although they increase, the radial and angular kinetic energies remain much less than the axial.Peer Reviewedhttp://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/2027.42/70008/2/PFLDAS-17-6-1109-1.pd

The treatment of the great majority of humeral shaft fractures is conservative. Absolute indications (i.e., vascular injury) and relative indications (i.e., primary nervous palsy) for surgical treatment are well established by literature. The two most used methods for that purpose - the self - compression plate and the locked intramedullary nail - have already been comparatively studied. However, there are no studies comparing intramedullary nails to the bridging plate, therefore, this is the objective of the present study
