Traditional culture media do not re-semble the metabolic compositionof human blood. The concentrationof different metabolites in thesemedia influences mitochondrialbiogenesis and oxidative phos-phorylation (OXPHOS) function.This knowledge is essential for theinterpretation of results obtainedfrom cellular models used for thestudy of OXPHOS function
Oxidative phosphorylation inducers fight pathological angiogenesis
Pathological mutations in subunits of the oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS) system, or inhibitors of this biochemical pathway, increase the production of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and pathological angiogenesis. In many angiogenesis-related diseases, such as retinal, rheumatoid diseases, or cancer, OXPHOS dysfunction can be found. Thus, enhancing OXPHOS might be a promising therapeutic approach for pathologic angiogenesis
Nonlinear stability of oscillatory wave fronts in chains of coupled oscillators
We present a stability theory for kink propagation in chains of coupled
oscillators and a new algorithm for the numerical study of kink dynamics. The
numerical solutions are computed using an equivalent integral equation instead
of a system of differential equations. This avoids uncertainty about the impact
of artificial boundary conditions and discretization in time. Stability results
also follow from the integral version. Stable kinks have a monotone leading
edge and move with a velocity larger than a critical value which depends on the

Adsorption of colloidal particles in the presence of external field
We present a new class of sequential adsorption models in which the adsorbing
particles reach the surface following an inclined direction (shadow models).
Capillary electrophoresis, adsorption in the presence of a shear or on an
inclined substrate are physical manifestations of these models. Numerical
simulations are carried out to show how the new adsorption mechanisms are
responsible for the formation of more ordered adsorbed layers and have
important implications in the kinetics, in particular modifying the jamming

Influence of Hydrodynamic Interactions on the Adsorption Process of Large Particles
We have studied the adsorption process of non-Brownian particles on a line
incorporating hydrodynamic interactionsa and we have numerically analyzed their
effect on typical relevant quantities. We compare our model to the ballistic
deposition model (BM) and address the limitations of BM in experimental
situations. The results obtained can explain some differences observed between

Food derived respiratory complex I inhibitors modify the effect of Leber hereditary optic neuropathy mutations
Mitochondrial DNA mutations in genes encoding respiratory complex I polypeptides can cause Leber hereditary optic neuropathy. Toxics affecting oxidative phosphorylation system can also cause mitochondrial optic neuropathy. Some complex I inhibitors found in edible plants might differentially interact with these pathologic mutations and modify their penetrance. To analyze this interaction, we have compared the effect of rotenone, capsaicin and rolliniastatin-1 on cybrids harboring the most frequent Leber hereditary optic neuropathy mutations and found that m.3460G > A mutation increases rotenone resistance but capsaicin and rolliniastatin-1 susceptibility. Thus, to explain the pathogenicity of mitochondrial diseases due to mitochondrial DNA mutations, their potential interactions with environment factors will have to be considered
Influence of Hydrodynamic Interactions on the Kinetics of Colloidal Particle's Adsorption
The kinetics of irreversible adsorption of spherical particles onto a flat
surface is theoretically studied. Previous models, in which hydrodynamic
interactions were disregarded, predicted a power-law behavior for
the time dependence of the coverage of the surface near saturation.
Experiments, however, are in agreement with a power-law behavior of the form
. We outline that, when hydrodynamic interactions are considered, the
assymptotic behavior is found to be compatible with the experimental results in

Mechanistic Studies on the Synthesis of Pyrrolidines and Piperidines via Copper-Catalyzed Intramolecular C–H Amination
We have recently developed a method for the synthesis of pyrrolidines and piperidines via intramolecular C–H amination of N-fluoride amides using [TpxCuL] complexes as precatalysts [Tpx = tris(pyrazolyl)borate ligand and L = THF or CH3CN]. Herein, we report mechanistic studies on this transformation, which includes the isolation and structural characterization of a fluorinated copper(II) complex, [(TpiPr2OH)CuF] [TpiPr = hydrotris(3,5-diisopropylpyrazolyl)borate], pertinent to the mechanistic pathway. The effects of the nature of the Tpx ligand in the copper catalyst as well as of the halide in the N–X amides employed as reactants have been investigated both from experimental and computational perspectives.We thank the Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación (PID2020-

Pharmacologic concentrations of linezolid modify oxidative phosphorylation function and adipocyte secretome
The oxidative phosphorylation system is important for adipocyte differentiation. Therefore, xenobiotics inhibitors of the oxidative phosphorylation system could affect adipocyte differentiation and adipokine secretion. As adipokines impact the overall health status, these xenobiotics may have wide effects on human health. Some of these xenobiotics are widely used therapeutic drugs, such as ribosomal antibiotics. Because of its similarity to the bacterial one, mitochondrial translation system is an off-target for these compounds. To study the influence of the ribosomal antibiotic linezolid on adipokine production, we analyzed its effects on adipocyte secretome. Linezolid, at therapeutic concentrations, modifies the levels of apolipoprotein E and several adipokines and proteins related with the extracellular matrix. This antibiotic also alters the global methylation status of human adipose tissue-derived stem cells and, therefore, its effects are not limited to the exposure period. Besides their consequences on other tissues, xenobiotics acting on the adipocyte oxidative phosphorylation system alter apolipoprotein E and adipokine production, secondarily contributing to their systemic effects
