An input-output analysis: linkages vs leakages

    Get PDF
Resorting to input-output analysis, intersectoral linkages are investigated. For such assessment, the distinction between imported and domestically supplied inputs, which has been disregarded so far in empirical analysis, is crucial. Besides improving the measurement of domestic linkages, it also allows to evaluate the importance of international trade in the production process. Moreover, the interaction between domestic linkages and leakages resulting from international trade can also be analysed. Using as case study a small open economy, the Portuguese one, we assess sectoral interdependence and trade effects for individual sectors as well as for the economy as a whole.

Supersymmetric Higgs pair discovery prospects at hadron colliders

    Get PDF
We study the potential of hadron colliders in the search for the pair production of neutral Higgs bosons in the framework of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model. Using analytical expressions for the relevant amplitudes, we perform a detailed signal and background analysis, working out efficient kinematical cuts for the extraction of the signal. The important role of squark loop contributions to the signal is emphasised. If the signal is sufficiently enhanced by these contributions, it could even be observable at the next run of the upgraded Tevatron collider in the near future. At the LHC the pair production of light and heavy Higgs bosons might be detectable simultaneously.Comment: 5 pages, hep99, 6 figures; Presented at the International Europhysics Conference on High Energy Physics, Tampere, Finland, 15-21 July 199

Application of Electro-Oxidation Method for Treatment of Dye Textile Wastewater Using Stainless Steel Electrode: Study of Electrolyte Concentration Effect to Color Removal

The increasing number of textile industries has created a new problem of environmental pollution from waste produced. Entering of concentrated wastewater that containing of complex organic compounds to agricultural land and rivers has caused loss to humans or the environment. Treatment of dye textile wastewater by electro-oxidation method using stainless steel electrode has been done. This research consists of several stages: analysis of electrode composition with SEM-EDX, electrolysis of wastewater at variation of electrolyte concentration and analysis of electrolyte concentration effect to color removal percentage of wastewater. The result shows that the electrode composition consisted of iron, chromium, nickel and silica with the main composition of iron in the amount of 72.2%. After electrolysis on variations of electrolyte concentration and analysis of color removal percentage of wastewater, obtained that the largest of color removal percentage on the use of electrolyte concentration of 3% in the amount of 98.81

Impact of malocclusion, tooth loss and oral hygiene habits on quality of life in orthodontic patients: A cross-sectional study

We aimed to assess the impact of malocclusion on oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) in a sample composed of adolescents, younger adults and adults seeking orthodontic treatment. Participants were consecutively enrolled from January 2019 to March 2020. The oral health impact profile (OHIP-14) was used to measure the OHRQoL. The index of complexity, outcome and need (ICON) was used to assess malocclusion. Sociodemographic, medical, and clinical questionnaires were recorded. Statistical analyses were performed according as a function of sex and age range (15–30 or >30 years old). Linear and logistic regression models were applied to assess the association between OHIP-14 total score, malocclusion, and other relevant confounding variables. In a final sample of 93 participants (60 females and 33 males, aged 15 to 60 years), men reported significantly better OHRQoL (p = 0.005). Participants aged 30 years or older reported significantly worse OHRQoL (p = 0.042). OHIP-14 was significantly correlated with age (¿ = 0.259, p < 0.05) and the number of missing teeth (¿ = 0.369, p < 0.001). Multivariable regression showed OHIP-14 being associated with the number of missing teeth (B = 1.48, SE = 0.57, p < 0.05) and the presence of missing teeth (B = 1.38, SE = 0.65, p < 0.05). Malocclusion showed no association with OHRQoL. Age and the number of missing teeth may be key factors on self-perceived OHRQoL in adult patients seeking orthodontic treatment
