Network anomaly detection: a survey and comparative analysis of stochastic and deterministic methods

These methods cover most of the common techniques in the anomaly detection field, including Statistical Hypothesis Tests (SHT), Support Vector Machines (SVM) and clustering analysis. We evaluate all methods in a simulated network that consists of nominal data, three flow-level anomalies and one packet-level attack. Through analyzing the results, we point out the advantages and disadvantages of each method and conclude that combining the results of the individual methods can yield improved anomaly detection results
Radiative capture on 242Pu for MOX fuel reactors
Proposal: Radiative capture on 242Pu for MOX fuel reactorsThe use of MOX fuel (mixed-oxide fuel made of UO2 and PuO2) in nuclear reactors allows substituting a large fraction of the enriched Uranium by Plutonium reprocessed from spent fuel. Indeed around 66% of the plutonium from spent fuel is made of 239Pu and 241Pu, which are fissile in thermal reactors. A typical reactor of this type uses a fuel with 7% reprocessed Pu and 93% depleted U, thus profiting from both the spent fuel and the remaining 238U following the 235U enrichment. With the use of such new fuel compositions rich in Pu the better knowledge of the capture and fission cross sections of the Pu isotopes becomes very important. This is clearly stated in the recent OECD NEA’s “High Priority Request List” and in the WPEC-26 “Uncertainty and target accuracy assessment for innovative systems using recent covariance data evaluations” report. In particular, a new series of cross section evaluations have been recently carried out jointly by the European (JEFF) and United States (ENDF) nuclear data agencies. As the new evaluations on 240Pu and 241Am have been already completed, 242Pu is the next to be reevaluated, and the scarceness of capture data (only two TOF measurements from 1973 and 1976 are available and disagree with each other) calls for a new time-of flight capture cross section measurement. This will be the first measurement in 40 years and, with the use of more advanced techniques, shall provide a more reliable and accurate result. We propose to measure the capture cross section of 242Pu in the region from thermal up to at least 60 keV, aiming for a high energy limit of 500 keV. The experiment would make use of an array of 4 low neutron sensitivity C6D6 detectors and be carried out at the n_TOF EAR-1 (185 m flight path) measuring station. Compared to the current uncertainty of 35%, this measurement aims at an improved accuracy between 7% and 12% depending on the energy region.Preprin
Is body dysmorphic disorder associated with abnormal bodily self-awareness? A study using the rubber hand illusion.
Evidence from past research suggests that behaviours and characteristics related to body dissatisfaction may be associated with greater instability of perceptual body image, possibly due to problems in the integration of body-related multisensory information. We investigated whether people with body dysmorphic disorder (BDD), a condition characterised by body image disturbances, demonstrated enhanced susceptibility to the rubber hand illusion (RHI), which arises as a result of multisensory integration processes when a rubber hand and the participant\u27s hidden real hand are stimulated in synchrony. Overall, differences in RHI experience between the BDD group and healthy and schizophrenia control groups (n = 17 in each) were not significant. RHI strength, however, was positively associated with body dissatisfaction and related tendencies. For the healthy control group, proprioceptive drift towards the rubber hand was observed following synchronous but not asynchronous stimulation, a typical pattern when inducing the RHI. Similar drifts in proprioceptive awareness occurred for the BDD group irrespective of whether stimulation was synchronous or not. These results are discussed in terms of possible abnormalities in visual processing and multisensory integration among people with BDD
La plaqueta pintada del yacimiento epipaleolĂtico de Picamoixons (Alt Camp, Tarragona) : aproximaciĂłn al estudio de la cadena operativa
En este trabajo se presenta el estudio realizado sobre una plaqueta pintada localizada en el yacimiento de Picamoixons, cuya cronologĂa oscila entre 9.l70±80 y 11.050±90 B.P. A su vez se desarrolla una metodologĂa referida al medio de aplicaciĂłn de la pintura mediante las tĂ©cnicas digital, pincel y "a crayon", en base a un programa experimental. Se describen los primeros resultados y su aplicaciĂłn a la plaqueta de Picamoixons.In this work we present the study concerning a painted tablet on limestone located at the Picamoixons site, whose dating stands between 9.170±80 and 11.050±90 B.P. Movement of Translocated Adult Sicklefin Redhorse (\u3ci\u3eMoxostoma\u3c/i\u3e sp.) in the Oconaluftee River, North Carolina: Implications for Species Restoration
The Sicklefin Redhorse is a rare, undescribed species of Moxostoma, endemic to the Hiwassee and Little Tennessee River basins of western North Carolina and northern Georgia, where it has been eliminated from much of its native range. It is listed as endangered in Georgia and threatened in North Carolina. Although it has not been granted federal protected status, this species is the subject of a Candidate Conservation Agreement between federal, state, tribal, and private stakeholders, of which one objective calls for the re-establishment of Sicklefin Redhorse populations throughout its historical range. The objective of our study was to evaluate suitability of North Carolina’s upper Oconaluftee River for reintroduction of Sicklefin Redhorse, by tracking movement patterns of translocated individuals. Ten native Sicklefin Redhorse were collected from the Tuckasegee River in Swain County, NC, implanted with radio transmitters and translocated into the Oconaluftee River upstream from Ela Dam. Fish were tracked individually using radio telemetry for six months. Movement patterns for newly translocated fish, as well as seasonal patterns for females, were comparable to those shown in previous studies within the current range of Sicklefin Redhorse. Although some fish moved extensively, the sedentary patterns observed in females suggests that the upper Oconaluftee River may provide suitable overwinter habitat for the Sicklefin Redhorse. However, additional data are needed concerning spawning suitability and rates of downstream migration past Ela Dam before reintroducing Sicklefin Redhorse back to this portion of its native range
