Quantum Chinos Game: winning strategies through quantum fluctuations
We apply several quantization schemes to simple versions of the Chinos game.
Classically, for two players with one coin each, there is a symmetric stable
strategy that allows each player to win half of the times on average. A partial
quantization of the game (semiclassical) allows us to find a winning strategy
for the second player, but it is unstable w.r.t. the classical strategy.
However, in a fully quantum version of the game we find a winning strategy for
the first player that is optimal: the symmetric classical situation is broken

Quantum dynamics of a model for two Josephson-coupled Bose--Einstein condensates
In this work we investigate the quantum dynamics of a model for two
single-mode Bose--Einstein condensates which are coupled via Josephson
tunneling. Using direct numerical diagonalisation of the Hamiltonian, we
compute the time evolution of the expectation value for the relative particle
number across a wide range of couplings. Our analysis shows that the system
exhibits rich and complex behaviours varying between harmonic and non-harmonic
oscillations, particularly around the threshold coupling between the
delocalised and self-trapping phases. We show that these behaviours are
dependent on both the initial state of the system as well as regime of the
coupling. In addition, a study of the dynamics for the variance of the relative
particle number expectation and the entanglement for different initial states

K0-Sigma+ Photoproduction with SAPHIR
Preliminary results of the analysis of the reaction p(gamma,K0)Sigma+ are
presented. We show the first measurement of the differential cross section and
much improved data for the total cross section than previous data. The data are
compared with model predictions from different isobar and quark models that
give a good description of p(gamma,K+)Lambda and p(gamma,K+)Sigma0 data in the
same energy range. Results of ChPT describe the data adequately at threshold
while isobar models that include hadronic form factors reproduce the data at

Systemic Effects Induced by Hyperoxia in a Preclinical Model of Intra-abdominal Sepsis
Supplemental oxygen is a supportive treatment in patients with sepsis to balance tissue oxygen delivery and demand in the tissues. However, hyperoxia may induce some pathological effects. We sought to assess organ damage associated with hyperoxia and its correlation with the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in a preclinical model of intra-abdominal sepsis. For this purpose, sepsis was induced in male, Sprague-Dawley rats by cecal ligation and puncture (CLP). We randomly assigned experimental animals to three groups: control (healthy animals), septic (CLP), and sham-septic (surgical intervention without CLP). At 18 h after CLP, septic (n = 39), sham-septic (n = 16), and healthy (n = 24) animals were placed within a sealed Plexiglas cage and randomly distributed into four groups for continuous treatment with 21%, 40%, 60%, or 100% oxygen for 24 h. At the end of the experimental period, we evaluated serum levels of cytokines, organ damage biomarkers, histological examination of brain and lung tissue, and ROS production in each surviving animal. We found that high oxygen concentrations increased IL-6 and biomarkers of organ damage levels in septic animals, although no relevant histopathological lung or brain damage was observed. Healthy rats had an increase in IL-6 and aspartate aminotransferase at high oxygen concentration. IL-6 levels, but not ROS levels, are correlated with markers of organ damage. In our study, the use of high oxygen concentrations in a clinically relevant model of intra-abdominal sepsis was associated with enhanced inflammation and organ damage. These findings were unrelated to ROS release into circulation. Hyperoxia could exacerbate sepsis-induced inflammation, and it could be by itself detrimental. Our study highlights the need of developing safer thresholds for oxygen therapy
The order parameter-entropy relation in some universal classes: experimental evidence
The asymptotic behaviour near phase transitions can be suitably characterized
by the scaling of with , where is
the excess entropy and is the order parameter. As is obtained by
integration of the experimental excess specific heat of the transition , it displays little experimental noise so that the curve versus is better constrained than, say,
versus . The behaviour of for different
universality classes is presented and compared. In all cases, it clearly
deviates from being a constant. The determination of this function can then be
an effective method to distinguish asymptotic critical behaviour. For
comparison, experimental data for three very different systems, Rb2CoF4,
Rb2ZnCl4 and SrTiO3, are analysed under this approach. In SrTiO3, the function
does not deviate within experimental resolution from a straight
line so that, although Q can be fitted with a non mean-field exponent, the data
can be explained by a classical Landau mean-field behaviour. In contrast, the
behaviour of for the antiferromagnetic transition in Rb2CoF4 and
the normal-incommensurate phase transition in Rb2ZCl4 is fully consistent with
the asymptotic critical behaviour of the universality class corresponding to
each case. This analysis supports, therefore, the claim that incommensurate
phase transitions in general, and the ABX compounds in particular, in
contrast with most structural phase transitions, have critical regions large

Debugging of Web Applications with Web-TLR
Web-TLR is a Web verification engine that is based on the well-established
Rewriting Logic--Maude/LTLR tandem for Web system specification and
model-checking. In Web-TLR, Web applications are expressed as rewrite theories
that can be formally verified by using the Maude built-in LTLR model-checker.
Whenever a property is refuted, a counterexample trace is delivered that
reveals an undesired, erroneous navigation sequence. Unfortunately, the
analysis (or even the simple inspection) of such counterexamples may be
unfeasible because of the size and complexity of the traces under examination.
In this paper, we endow Web-TLR with a new Web debugging facility that supports
the efficient manipulation of counterexample traces. This facility is based on
a backward trace-slicing technique for rewriting logic theories that allows the
pieces of information that we are interested to be traced back through inverse
rewrite sequences. The slicing process drastically simplifies the computation
trace by dropping useless data that do not influence the final result. By using
this facility, the Web engineer can focus on the relevant fragments of the
failing application, which greatly reduces the manual debugging effort and also

Effect of age on exercise capacity and cardiac reserve in patients with pulmonary atresia with intact ventricular septum after biventricular repair
OBJECTIVESIn patients with pulmonary atresia with intact ventricular septum (PAIVS), biventricular repair is considered to be the optimal treatment option in the absence of significant right ventricular (RV) hypoplasia. However, long-term clinical outcome studies are limited. We evaluated exercise capacity and cardiac function during pharmacological stress in children and young adults with PAIVS after biventricular repair.METHODSTen PAIVS patients after biventricular repair, with a median age of 12 years (range 9-42 years), underwent a cardiopulmonary exercise test, dobutamine stress magnetic resonance imaging (DS-MRI) and delayed contrast enhancement (DCE) MRI.RESULTSThe patients' ages negatively correlated with exercise capacity (r = -0.72, P = 0.01) as well as left (LV) and RV stroke volume (SV) response to pharmacological stress (r = -0.72, P = 0.02; and r = -0.64, P = 0.04; respectively), Furthermore, older age was associated with decreased RV E/A volume ratio and increased pulmonary late diastolic forward flow percentage (r = 0-0.65, P = 0.04, r = 0.66, P = 0.03, respectively). RV E/A volume ratio positively correlated with RV-SV response to DS-MRI (r = 0.77, P = 0.009). and O(2)-pulse during physical stress correlated with biventricular SV response to DS-MRI. No RV or LV ventricular myocardial fibrosis was detected.CONCLUSIONSIn PAIVS patients after biventricular repair exercise capacity and cardiac reserve decrease with age. We examine the use of phenomenological form factors in tree level amplitudes
for meson photoproduction. Two common recipes are shown to be fundamentally
incorrect. An alternate form consistent with gauge invariance and crossing

Impact of Tumor LINE-1 Methylation Level and Neoadjuvant Treatment and Its Association with Colorectal Cancer Survival
Recent studies suggest that long-interspersed nucleotide element-1 (LINE-1) hypomethylation is commonly found in colorectal cancer (CRC), and is associated with worse prognosis. However, the utility of LINE-1 methylation on the prognosis of CRC is still controversial, and may be due to the fact that some clinical and pathological features may affect LINE-1 methylation. Thus, the aim of this study was to assess the prognostic value of tumor LINE-1 methylation in CRC, through their association with the CRC clinical and pathological characteristics. Survival of sixty-seven CRC patients was evaluated according to the median of tumor LINE-1 methylation, as well as pathological and oncological variables. We also studied the association between LINE-1 methylation and pathological features, and finally, we assessed the overall and disease-free survival of LINE1 methylation, stratified by neoadjuvant treatment and further checked by multivariate Cox regression to assess the statistical interactions. LINE-1 was hypomethylated in the CRC tumor with respect to the tumor adjacent-free area (p < 0.05), without association with any other clinical and oncological features, nor with overall and disease-free survival rates for CRC. Relevantly, in neoadjuvant treatment, LINE-1 methylation was associated with survival rates. Thus, disease-free and overall survival rates of treated CRC patients were worse in the hypomethylated LINE-1 tumors than those with normal LINE-1 methylation (p = 0.004 and 0.0049, respectively). Indeed, LINE-1 was hypermethylated more in the treated patients than in the non-treated patients (p < 0.05). The present study showed that tumor LINE-1 hypomethylation was associated with worse survival rates in only treated patients. Our data suggest an interactive effect of neoadjuvant treatment and tumor LINE-1 methylation, which could be a specific-tissue biomarker to predict survival of the treated patients, and help to personalize treatment in CRC
