    Design and simulation of a RF MEMS shunt switch for Ka and V bands and the impact of varying its geometrical parameters

    RF MEMS plays an important role in microwave switching. The high performance of RF MEMS shunt such as high bandwidth, low insertion loss, and high isolation have made these switches well suitable for high performing microwave and millimeter wave circuits. This paper presents a RF MEMS shunt capacitive switch for Ka and V band application. This paper investigates the effect of various geometrical parameters on RF characteristics of the switch. The simulation results are presented and discussed.<br /

    Time-resolved in-cylinder PIV measurement in a light duty optical engine under PPC conditions

    The understanding of in-cylinder flow field is one of the keys to realize Partially Premixed Combustion (PPC) for internal combustion engines, which has potential to achieve high combustion efficiency with low soot and NOx emissions. In this work, time resolved Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) was performed to measure the flow field inside the cylinder of a single-cylinder light-duty optical diesel engine.The engine was modified to Bowditch configuration, and was installed with a quartz piston and a transparent cylinder liner, to allow optical access. The geometry of the quartz piston crown is based on the regular combustion chamber design of mass produced diesel engine, including a re-entrant bowl shape. This causes severe distortion on the obtained images, which has to be handled by a distortion correction method before PIV process.The in-cylinder flow structures in a vertical plane at the center of cylinder were obtained both within the piston bowl and within the squish volume, during the compression and expansion stroke. Measurements were performed under three different injection strategies as well as motored engine condition. Both the instantaneous flow field from single cycle and ensemble average flow field calculated from 100 cycles at motored engine condition show a well match with previous studies. The results from fired engine conditions show different Interaction between injected fuel and in-cylinder air at different Crank Angle Degrees (CADs) with different injection strategies.All the results in this study can provide a quantitative dataset being useful to model validation of numerical simulation work to investigate PPC engine more

    Evaluation of the Effect of Different Ferrule Designs on Fracture Resistance of Maxillary Incisors Restored with Bonded Posts and Cores

    Introduction: In cases of severe hard tissue loss, 2 mm circumferential ferrule is difficult to achieve. So in these cases we should use different ferrule designs.This in vitro study investigated the effect of different ferrule designs on the fractureresistance of teeth restored with bonded post and cores.Materials and Methods: Forty freshly-extracted central incisors were endodontically treated. The teeth were randomly divided into four groups; group 1 were teeth with 2 mm circumferential ferrule above the CEJ, group 2 were teeth with 2 mm ferrule only on the palatal side of the teeth, group 3 consisted of teeth with 2 mm ferrule only on the facial side and group 4 were teeth with 2 mm ferrule on the palatal and facial side of teeth with interproximal concavities.All teeth were restored with fiber posts and composite cores. The specimen was mounted on a universal testing machine and compressive load was applied to the long axis of the specimen until failure occurred.Results: The fracture resistance was 533.79 ± 232.28 in group 1, 634.75± 133.35 in group 2, 828.90 ±118.27 in group 3 and 678.78± 160.20 in group 4. The post hoc analysis showed statistically significant difference between groups 1 and 3 .Conclusions: The results of this in vitro study showed that facial ferrule increases the fracture resistance of endodontically treated teeth restored with bonded post and cores

    Celiac disease and hepatitis C relationships in transcriptional regulatory networks

    Aim: we mainly aimed to elucidate potential comorbidities between celiac disease and hepatitis c by means of data and network analysis approaches. Background: understanding the association among the disorders evidently has important impact on the diagnosis and therapeutic approaches. Celiac disease is the most challenging, common types of autoimmune disorders. On the other hand, hepatitis c virus genome products like some proteins are supposed to be resemble to gliadin types that in turn activates gluten intolerance in people with inclined to gluten susceptibilities. Moreover, a firm support of association between chronic hepatitis and celiac disease remains largely unclear. Henceforth exploring cross-talk among these diseases will apparently lead to the promising discoveries concerning important genes and regulators. Methods: 321 and 1032 genes associated with celiac disease and hepatitis c retrieved from DisGeNET were subjected to build a gene regulatory network. Afterward a network-driven integrative analysis was performed to exploring prognosticates genes and related pathways. Results: 105 common genes between these diseases included 11 transcription factors were identified as hallmark molecules where by further screening enriched in biological GO terms and pathways chiefly in immune systems and signaling pathways such as chemokines, cytokines and interleukins. Conclusion: in silico data analysis approaches indicated that the identified selected combinations of genes covered a wide range of known functions triggering the inflammation implicated in these diseases

    Can we substitute brush cytology for biopsy in the evaluation of cervical lesions under the guidance of colposcopy?

    In cervical cancer screening, colposcopically directed biopsy is the gold standard method for identifying intraepithelial and occult invasive lesions of the uterine cervix. As biopsy needs special expertise and the procedure is not convenient for the patients, we sought to evaluate colposcopically directed brush cytology as a substitute for biopsy of cervical lesions. We studied a series of 150 women who were referred for colposcopic evaluation. Colposcopically directed brush cytology and biopsy were performed for all patients with abnormal colposcopic findings. A total of 40 samples were excluded due to unsatisfactory report of brush cytology. Of the remaining 110 samples, 34 abnormal pathologies were reported in biopsy evaluations, while only 9 abnormal cytologies were reported in brush cytology specimens. Brush cytology sensitivity and specificity were 26 and 97, respectively. We conclude that colposcopically directed brush cytology is not a safe substitute for biopsy in the evaluation of cervical lesions. © 2005 IGCS
