Spin dynamics of the new phosphides YbRh6P4 and CeIr2P2 as studied by electron spin resonance
We report the electron spin resonance (ESR) measurements in the new phosphides YbRh6P4 and CeIr2P2. Details of preparation of both materials which proceeds by different techniques are given. Electronic spin-lattice relaxation (SLR) processes with an involvement of the first excited Stark sublevel of the Yb3+ ion with an energy Δ 82.1 K describe well a drastic broadening and vanishing of the ESR signal in YbRh6P4 above 10 K. The observed ESR behavior provides evidence for the relatively weak f-p hybridization effects in both phosphides in contrast to silicides YbRh2Si2 and YbIr2Si2. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd
EPR study of some rare-earth ions (Dy3+, Tb3+, and Nd3+) in YBa2Cu3O6-compound
We investigate the low temperature X-band electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) of YBa2Cu3Ox compounds with x≅6.0 doped with Dy3+, Tb3+, and Nd3. The EPR spectra of Dy3+ and Tb3+ have been identified. The EPR of Tb3+ is used also to study the effect of suppression of high Tc superconductivity by doping with Tb3+. The EPR of Nd3+ is probably masked by the intense resonance of Cu2+. All experimental EPR results compare well with theoretical estimations. © 2003 Elsevier Science (USA). All rights reserved
Electron paramagnetic resonance of Tb 3+ ions in YBa 2Cu 3O 6
The first observation of electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) of Tb 3+ doped into YBa 2 Cu 3O 6 is reported. EPR is used to determine the local symmetry of the rare-earth ion and to study the effect of suppression of high-T c superconductivity by doping. The distance between the lowest singlets of Tb 3+ ion Δ ≅ 7.1 GHz ≡ 0.24 cm -1 and g-factor g ∥ ≃ 17.9 have been estimated from measurements. Both these parameters are in a good agreement with the corresponding calculated values. No evidence of Tb 4+ ions was found. © 2000 Plenum Publishing Corporation
Interplay of superexchange and orbital degeneracy in Cr-doped LaMnO3
We report on structural, magnetic and Electron Spin Resonance (ESR)
investigations in the manganite system LaMn_{1-x}Cr_{x}O_{3} (x<=0.5). Upon
Cr-doping we observe a reduction of the Jahn-Teller distortion yielding less
distorted orthorhombic structures. A transition from the Jahn-Teller distorted
O' to the pseudocubic O phase occurs between 0.3<x<0.4. A clear connection
between this transition and the doping dependence of the magnetic and ESR
properties has been observed. The effective moments determined by ESR seem
reduced with respect to the spin-only value of both Mn^{3+} and Cr^{3+} ions
The Polarised Valence Quark Distribution from semi-inclusive DIS
The semi-inclusive difference asymmetry A^{h^{+}-h^{-}} for hadrons of
opposite charge has been measured by the COMPASS experiment at CERN. The data
were collected in the years 2002-2004 using a 160 GeV polarised muon beam
scattered off a large polarised ^6LiD target and cover the range 0.006 < x <
0.7 and 1 < Q^2 < 100 (GeV/c)^2. In leading order QCD (LO) the asymmetry
A_d^{h^{+}-h^{-}} measures the valence quark polarisation and provides an
evaluation of the first moment of Delta u_v + Delta d_v which is found to be
equal to 0.40 +- 0.07 (stat.) +- 0.05 (syst.) over the measured range of x at
Q^2 = 10 (GeV/c)^2. When combined with the first moment of g_1^d previously
measured on the same data, this result favours a non-symmetric polarisation of
light quarks Delta u-bar = - Delta d-bar at a confidence level of two standard
deviations, in contrast to the often assumed symmetric scenario Delta u-bar =
Delta d-bar = Delta s-bar = Delta s.Comment: 7 pages, 3 figures, COMPASS, revised: details added, author list

Spin alignment and violation of the OZI rule in exclusive and production in pp collisions
Exclusive production of the isoscalar vector mesons and is
measured with a 190 GeV proton beam impinging on a liquid hydrogen target.
Cross section ratios are determined in three intervals of the Feynman variable
of the fast proton. A significant violation of the OZI rule is found,
confirming earlier findings. Its kinematic dependence on and on the
invariant mass of the system formed by fast proton
and vector meson is discussed in terms of diffractive
production of resonances in competition with central
production. The measurement of the spin density matrix element of
the vector mesons in different selected reference frames provides another
handle to distinguish the contributions of these two major reaction types.
Again, dependences of the alignment on and on are
found. Most of the observations can be traced back to the existence of several
excited baryon states contributing to production which are absent in
the case of the meson. Removing the low-mass resonant
region, the OZI rule is found to be violated by a factor of eight,
independently of .Comment: 23 pages, 13 figures and 5 table
Multiplicities of charged pions and unidentified charged hadrons from deep-inelastic scattering of muons off an isoscalar target
Multiplicities of charged pions and unidentified hadrons produced in
deep-inelastic scattering were measured in bins of the Bjorken scaling variable
, the relative virtual-photon energy and the relative hadron energy .
Data were obtained by the COMPASS Collaboration using a 160 GeV muon beam and
an isoscalar target (LiD). They cover the kinematic domain in the photon
virtuality > 1(GeV/c, , and . In addition, a leading-order pQCD analysis was performed using the
pion multiplicity results to extract quark fragmentation functions
Longitudinal double spin asymmetries in single hadron quasi-real photoproduction at high
We measured the longitudinal double spin asymmetries for single
hadron muo-production off protons and deuterons at photon virtuality <
1(GeV/) for transverse hadron momenta in the range 0.7
GeV/ to 4 GeV/ . They were determined using COMPASS data taken
with a polarised muon beam of 160 GeV/ or 200 GeV/ impinging on
polarised or targets. The experimental
asymmetries are compared to next-to-leading order pQCD calculations, and are
sensitive to the gluon polarisation inside the nucleon in the range
of the nucleon momentum fraction carried by gluons
Interplay among transversity induced asymmetries in hadron leptoproduction
In the fragmentation of a transversely polarized quark several left-right
asymmetries are possible for the hadrons in the jet. When only one unpolarized
hadron is selected, it exhibits an azimuthal modulation known as Collins
effect. When a pair of oppositely charged hadrons is observed, three
asymmetries can be considered, a di-hadron asymmetry and two single hadron
asymmetries. In lepton deep inelastic scattering on transversely polarized
nucleons all these asymmetries are coupled with the transversity distribution.
From the high statistics COMPASS data on oppositely charged hadron-pair
production we have investigated for the first time the dependence of these
three asymmetries on the difference of the azimuthal angles of the two hadrons.
The similarity of transversity induced single and di-hadron asymmetries is
discussed. A new analysis of the data allows to establish quantitative
relationships among them, providing for the first time strong experimental
indication that the underlying fragmentation mechanisms are all driven by a
common physical process.Comment: 6 figure
Collins and Sivers asymmetries in muonproduction of pions and kaons off transversely polarised proton
Measurements of the Collins and Sivers asymmetries for charged pions and
charged and neutral kaons produced in semi-inclusive deep-inelastic scattering
of high energy muons off transversely polarised protons are presented. The
results were obtained using all the available COMPASS proton data, which were
taken in the years 2007 and 2010. The Collins asymmetries exhibit in the
valence region a non-zero signal for pions and there are hints of non-zero
signal also for kaons. The Sivers asymmetries are found to be positive for
positive pions and kaons and compatible with zero otherwise.Comment: 15 pages, 13 figures and 1 tabl
