Modal analysis of wave propagation in dispersive media

Surveys on wave propagation in dispersive media have been limited since the pioneering work of Sommerfeld [Ann. Phys. 349, 177 (1914)] by the presence of branches in the integral expression of the wave function. In this article, a method is proposed to eliminate these critical branches and hence to establish a modal expansion of the time-dependent wave function. The different components of the transient waves are physically interpreted as the contributions of distinct sets of modes and characterized accordingly. Then, the modal expansion is used to derive a modified analytical expression of the Sommerfeld precursor improving significantly the description of the amplitude and the oscillating period up to the arrival of the Brillouin precursor. The proposed method and results apply to all waves governed by the Helmholtz equations.Comment: 10 pages, 9 figure

    Get PDF
Left ventricular pseudoaneurysm is a rare and lethal condition associated with a high risk of rapid enlargement and rupture. It develops after transmural myocardial infarction (MI), cardiac surgery, trauma, or infection. When a left ventricular pseudoaneurysm is detected, surgical repair is recommended due to the high possibility of rupture. In this report, we present surgical treatment of a giant cardiac pseudoaneurysm that occurred after MI in a colon carcinoma patient

The use of solar energy for baking, heating or drying represents a sustainable way of solar energy applications with negligible negative effects. Solar oven is an alternative to conventional oven that rely heavily on coal and wood or Electric oven that uses the power from the National grid of which the end users have little or no control. Since the Solar oven uses no fuel and it cost nothing to run, it use are widely promoted especially in situations where minimum fuel consumption or fire risks are considered highly important. As useful as the Solar Oven proved, it major setback in the area of applications has been its future sustainability. For the use of Solar Oven/Cookers to be sustained in the future, the design and development of solar oven must rely on sound analytical tools. Therefore, this work focused on the design and development of the solar oven. To test the performance of the Small Solar Oven a 5000cm3 beaker of water was put into the Oven and the temperature of the water was found to reach 810C after about 3hrs under an average ambient temperature of 300C. On no load test, the oven reached a maximum temperature of 112oC in 6hrs. In order to carry out the parametric studies and improve the performance of the Solar Oven, Mathematical models were developed and solved by using Characteristics-Based Split (CBS) Finite Element Method. The Model results were compared with the Experimental results and a good agreement ware found between the two results

Employee satisfaction in public health service organizations is meeting the expectations of employees with respect to psychological, structural and environmental factors. Many authors have studied employee satisfaction in different context in different organizations. This study tries to determine factors affecting employee satisfaction in PHSOs; to know the reliability and validity of items & factors and to create a mathematical equation model. Data are collected in both secondary and primary sources. Researcher collected 41 from employee satisfaction in public health service organisations’ performance during the period of 2012 to 1996. Primary data have been collected using questionnaire. Since this is a pilot study researcher selected only 100 hospital employees out of 3 selected government hospitals in Addalaichenai Divisional Secretariat of Ampara District. Collected questionnaires have been analysed by a factor analysis and regression analysis. Results found that environmental, psychological and structural factors have been factors have been identified as determinants of employee satisfaction in public health service organizations. Values of Cronbach alpha for items in environmental factor, psychological factor and structural factor are 0.961, 0.807 and 0.928. It shows the existence of high reliability among items of these factors. KMO is used to know the statistical validity of factors. In this study, values of KMO environmental factor, psychological factor and structural factor are 0.750, 0.598 and 0.698 respectively. Log log model is the best fitted model than linear models. In terms of this model, environmental, psychological and structural factor explain around 93% of total variation for employee satisfaction. Corporate performance in public health service organizations is how public health service organization looks at its patients, key disease treatment service lines, learning & growth and resources. Therefore, many authors have used BSC for organisational performance. This study tries to determine factors affecting performance of PHSOs; know the reliability and validity of items & factors and to create a mathematical equation model. Data are collected in both secondary and primary sources. Researcher collected 54 from corporate performance in public health service organisations’ performance during the period of 2012 to 1996. Results found that patient, key service line, learning & growth and resource factors have been identified as performance of public health service organizations. Cronbach alpha for items in these factors are 0.888, 0.807, 0.651 and 0.857. It shows high reliability for items. KMO is used to know the statistical validity of factors. In this study, values of KMO for patient, key service line, learning & growth and resource are 0.687, 0.502, 0.559 and 0.818. Content validity and convergent validity are higher. The Sustainability of Fiscal Policy and Deficit Budget Financing : Evidence From Selected Muslim Countries

The sustainability of fiscal policy and how to finance the deficit budget has been receiving increasing attention from economists. The issue is paramount for the Muslim Countries and this is one of the motivations of the paper. In order to assess the sustainability of budget deficits in selected Muslim countries, a descriptive statistics for the stock of revenue, expenditure, tax over GDP and sustainability tests of government debt and deficit are performed for the Muslim countries for the 1971-2000 period. The cointegration model is also used to test the relationship between government expenditures, taxes, and seigniorage. The results show that the Muslim countries use taxes and seigniorage to finance their government expenditures. The empirical results also allow us to conclude that fiscal policy may be sustainable for most Muslim countries. JEL classification: E60; H62; H63
