Robust video transmission using reversible watermarking techniques

    Get PDF
This paper presents a novel error-resilient strategy which employs a reversible watermarking technique to protect the H.264/AVC video content. The proposed scheme adopts reversible watermarking to embed an error detection codeword within every Macro block (MB). The watermark is then extracted at the decoder and used to detect the corrupted MBs to be concealed. The proposed scheme further manages to recover the original video content after watermark extraction, thus providing no loss in video quality. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed approach provides a substantial gain of up to 2.6 dB in Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio (PSNR) relative to the standard with a minimal increase in complexity.peer-reviewe

Spatial mismatch and livelihoods in a fast-growing lower middle-income city: Praia, Cape Verde

    Get PDF
This paper evaluates public transport accessibility to formal and informal employment opportunities in a city in a middle-income country: Praia, the capital of Cape Verde. Due to geographic constraints and rapid growth of population, income, road network, and car ownership, employment is dispersed throughout the city. Public transport is limited in terms of geographic coverage and connectivity. Accessibility is evaluated in terms of the number of bus trips required to access work places and the walking times to bus stops. The results show that deprived areas are at a disadvantage in the access to formal employment opportunities when comparing with more affluent areas. Some areas also have limited accessibility to spaces for informal employment, when considering public transport options and competition for these spaces

Storytelling is a manner speak and deliver a story or give an explanation orally. Equally important the storytelling is a manner deliver the values that prevailed in society. In any case, storytelling can use medias. One of them is using a puppet in order to more interest to kindergartens. Using the puppet can train children’s spiritual, deliver moral and religion values, train imagination and illusion, train an emotion and self identification, increase an experience and entertainment. The object of this research was improving of moral through storytelling by puppet in groups B TK Aisyiyah Pucangan 1 Kartasura in Academic Year 2016/2017. This research was a classroom action research, in this situation the design of research summarized in three steps sunch as Pre-cyclical, cyclical 1, cyclical 2. The technique of accumulation data use observation and documentation. The result of calculation was each of cyclical developed moral through storytelling with puppet media abaout 44,22% in Pre-Cycal, 74,44% in cyclical 1, and 84,46% in cyclical II. Based on the calculation of the improving of moral through storytelling by puppet in groups B at TK Aisyiyah Pucangan 1 Kartasura in Academic Year 2016/2017 as was success because it had passed target in research that determined about 80%. Energy Efficiency of Fog Computing Health Monitoring Applications

    Get PDF
Fog computing offers a scalable and effective solution to overcome the increasing processing and networking demands of Internet of Thing (IoT) devices. In this paper, we investigate the use of fog computing for health monitoring applications. We consider a heart monitoring application where patients send their 30 minute recording of Electrocardiogram (ECG) signal for processing, analysis, and decision making at fog processing units within the time constraint recommended by the American Heart Association (AHA) to save heart patients when an abnormality in the ECG signal is detected. The locations of the processing servers are optimized so that the energy consumption of both the processing and networking equipment are minimised. The results show that processing the ECG signal at fog processing units yields a total energy consumption saving of up to 68% compared to processing the at the central cloud

Os profissionais da informação: avaliação de currículo Lattes no domínio da organização do conhecimento na era do big data

The Big Data phenomenon evidences a context in constant cultural, social, political and economic changes and also in Information Science with a concern in the treatment of data, to guarantee the adequate and efficient recovery, in digital environments. In this way, new horizons for information professionals are opened up. The present research presents as problematic the formation and performance of the information professional for data processing in the Big Data Age, in which the SOCs have the tools to assist in the recovery of digital knowledge. Within this context, we mean the contributions of knowledge organization systems (KOS) supported by technologies and contributions from other fields, such as Computer Science and Linguistics. Therefore, studies and research are needed to better understand the dimensions of how the information professional is preparing and dealing with the systems of knowledge organization in relation to the big data era. In the present research, the training and performance of the information professionals working with knowledge organization systems together with the big data were analyzed. For this, a curricular analysis was carried out by the IC professionals who approach the proposed theme. In this way, it is a general objective to investigate the profile of the IC professional in the KOS theme along with Big Data, to contribute to the development of the area. Specific objectives are to identify: I) what are the university degrees of these professionals, II) if these professionals have a postgraduate degree and in which area, III) the area where the information professionals are performing their duties. In this way, the curricula were retrieved on the Lattes platform, which is a database of the Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico - CNPq - Plataforma Lattes do Brasil, using the filter "Area of Information Science" and search terms used were "big data and knowledge organization systems" in all fields offered by the database. Once the quantitative survey was carried out, the university training of these professionals and their professional performance were analyzed, and the professional skills and competences of the information professional in the Big Data era were discussed. their contributions. We recovered 71 curricula that work with KOS and big data, in which all these professionals concluded their doctorate, 70 of these professionals act as university professor and only 1 is not professor and is inserted in the administrative branch. It was verified that Blioteconomia is the graduation that most form information professionals working in the area of knowledge organization systems and big data together. All the curricula analyzed have some type of training in higher education, the post graduate that stood out most was in the area of information technology

Physical attributes significant in preserving the social sustainability of the traditional Malay settlement

    Get PDF
A traditional settlement is defined by a colony in which physical attributes and its occupants retain their daily traditions and skills, as well as other cultural practices. However, due to urbanization and economic development, certain traditional settlements in Malaysia are currently undergoing tremendous changes. Hence, this paper identifies the physical attributes that are significant for the preservation of social sustainability in the traditional Malay settlement. In this research, a qualitative methodology was used to identify the characteristics of the traditional settlements in Kuala Terengganu. In this study, street pattern, housing boundaries and open spaces were identified to be significant as key characteristics for the preservation of social interaction in the three traditional settlements studied. Therefore, the study concluded that methods and selections of such physical characteristics and space typology are significant in order to maintain the social sustainability in traditional settlement communities

The Policy and Practice of Music Education in England, 2010-2020

    Get PDF
Since the introduction of the National Plan for Music Education there have been significant changes in music education within England. Whilst some celebrate figures that report increased access and engagement, many teachers and others continue to have legitimate concerns regarding the quality of the music education on offer in schools and Music Education Hubs. There are concerns that the provision of music education is incoherent and patchy across the country. Many would argue that the opportunity to access high‐quality music education has become a ‘postcode lottery’. There is a sense that the fragmentation of music education as a result of curriculum reforms and the diversity of approaches taken by Music Education Hubs and other bodies has significantly enhanced this incoherence. This article seeks to review the policy and practice of music education in England over the last 10 years. It draws on recent research from various sources and maintains a particular focus on government policy and the consequences of this for the field as a whole. It reflects on how things could be improved in the future. It argues for a clearer focus on a practitioner‐led approach to research and advocacy, in particular one led by the notion of ‘policy as practice’ rather than continuing with the current approach and its intrinsic failings
