    The relationships between corporate meeting planner's personality traits and their choices of meeting places

    This study is to determine the influence of personality on the novelty preference for corporate meeting destination choice. The Big-Five model of personality which consists of five traits namely openness, conscientiousness, extraversion,agreeableness, and neuroticism was employed to operationalise the personality construct. A total of 75 corporate meeting planners drawn from public listed service organisations were involved. The main method of data collection was questionnaire survey and multiple regression analysis was employed as the main statistical analysis. The results revealed that only openness (positively) and agreeableness (negatively) contributed significantly to the prediction of novelty preference for corporate meeting destination choice. This study, which also seeks to determine the relationships between some demographical variables and novelty preference, found that demographical information is not a good predictor of meeting destination choice. The main implication of this study is pertaining to the segmentation and targeting of the corporate meeting market. This study also helps in bridging the gap between tourism marketing and organisational research

    A Shift-Share Analysis Of The Competitiveness Of Three Major Crop Industries In Malaysia

    Agriculture is one of the main sectors in Malaysian economy. Palm oil, rubber and cocoa were the main agriculture industries in 1960’s and 1970’s. Malaysia’s palm oil industry faced a tough competition from Indonesia. The share of Malaysia’s palm oil export declined from 69.9 percent in 1990 to 50.3 percent in 2005. A similar trend is observed in the case of rubber and cocoa. In 1990, the share of Malaysia’s rubber in the world market was 29.6 percent. By 2005, it has declined to 10.6 percent. In 1990/1991, the share of Malaysia’s cocoa export was 8.8 percent and by 2004/2005, it has declined to 0.9 percent. The study examines the competitiveness of three agricultural sectors; palm oil, rubber and cocoa. The Shift-Share Analysis is utilized to estimate the net shift in each industry.The result shows that palm oil has the greatest potential for industrialization in the long-term. On the other hand, the rubber and cocoa industries show positive results for the short-term. The research and development of palm oil in Malaysia has contributed to the growth of the industry. Currently palm oil is one of the major sectors that contributes to the country’s export earning. Malaysia represents 50.3 percent of the world palm oil export in 2005. The study shows that the cocoa industry exhibits future potential for growth. Hence, it is recommended that more production incentives and supports are provided to revitalize this industry

    Power generation by using piezoelectric transducer with bending mechanism support

    This paper presents about power generation by using piezoelectric transducer with bending mechanism support. In this study, bending mechanism is developed by employing 3D printer technology. This 3D model is used as a support for a piezoelectric transducer during deflection or bending process. During deflection condition, stress that applied on the piezoelectric transducer will generate electrical energy. The 3D model helps the piezoelectric transducer to produce more voltage output. A finger press test used as evaluation method for the voltage output of the piezoelectric transducer. The experiment is tested by varying three different 3D model with the different diameter for the middle hole for each of the model. A round shape of the piezoelectric transducer with size of 50 mm in diameter is used to conduct the experiment. Thus, when the piezoelectric transducer placed on the 3D model with 0 mm in diameter of middle hole will producing 5.4 V voltage output. However, 3D model with 30 mm diameter of middle hole, the output increases up to 19.0 V. The output voltage for piezoelectric transducer reached its highest voltage when placed on the 3D model with middle hole of 40 mm which is 34.4 V. This bending mechanism can be used to increase the output of piezoelectric transducer as it applied underneath footstep tile at crowded area to harvest the energy produced from walking activities. The power generated can be used to power up various electronic devices

    First paragraph: For a long time in Malaysia as in many other developing countries, book publishing and printing has been an area in which there has been little research done despite its accepted role in and contribution to the nation's development. In contrast with newspapers,1 information on publishing of English or vernacular language books is very limited. Studies relating to its history and chronology, business and trade, organisational arrangement, technical development and its cultural aspect are markedly lacking. The absence of a comprehensive bibliography of early books makes it difficult to appreciate previous works. The handful of studies available are scattered and still at a preliminary stage

    Magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) Jeffrey fluid over a stretching vertical surface in a porous medium

    This paper presents the study of steady two-dimensional mixed convection boundary layer flow and heat transfer of a Jeffrey fluid over a stretched sheet immersed in a porous medium in the presence of a transverse magnetic field. The governing partial differential equations are reduced to nonlinear ordinary differential equations with the aid of similarity transformation, which are then solved numerically using an implicit finite difference scheme. The effects of some of the embedded parameters, such as Deborah number β, magnetic parameter M, mixed convection parameter λ, porosity parameter γ and Prandtl number Pr, on the flow and heat transfer characteristics, are given in forms of tables and graphs
