YouTube celebrity endorsement: audience evaluation of source attributes and response to sponsored content. A case study of influencer Verdeliss

    Get PDF
This article analyses follower response to the growing number of product endorsements present in YouTube videos published under the username “Verdeliss” by Estefanía Unzu Ripoll, Spain’s most popular YouTube influencer on the topic of maternity and childcare. Results of a self-administered online survey of 949 Verdeliss followers focused on their individual evaluations of source attributes indicate that Unzu Ripoll’s YouTube fans tend to buy products she endorses on the basis of her perceived likeability and expertise, and that the overall influence she exerts on their purchasing decisions is slight. In closing, the authors offer insights into how social media influencers can enhance the effectiveness of their online endorsements and identify tactics brands can employ to ensure that the influencers they collaborate with are optimally suited to promote their products

Presentar hábitos alimenticios no saludables genera mayor riesgo cardiovascular (OR: 5.57, IC 95% 1.95 – 15.90). Introduction: Cardiovascular diseases are among the leading causes of death worldwide and scientific evidence suggests that they have an origin at early ages, so that diminishing from adolescence the risks that contribute to its emergence is essential. Objective: To determine cardiovascular risk in the adolescent population of a high school of Timbío, Cauca, 2015 - 2016. Methodology: Quantitative, descriptive, observational and cross-sectional study. Sample: 100 students (47 women, 53 men), from 10 to 19 years old. Sociodemographic, anthropometric, physiological, biochemical variables (glycemia), personal history, family history, lifestyles and use of oral contraceptives were evaluated. Results: A higher prevalence of cardiovascular risk was found in the adolescent age group (15-18 years) with 84.6%; female gender was more likely to have cardiovascular risk (OR: 2.8, 95% CI 1.17 - 6.87); 7% said they use tobacco regularly and 12% are passive smokers. It was obtained that 26% ingested alcoholic beverages, with a higher prevalence between the ages of 15 to 18 years (OR: 19.4, 95% CI 2.45-48.11); In terms of physical activity, 79% practiced it extracurricularly. Presenting unhealthy eating habits generates greater cardiovascular risk (OR: 5.57, 95% CI 1.95 - 15.90). 67% (n = 67) have cardiovascular risk. Conclusions: The female gender, the adolescent group (15-18 years), drink alcoholic beverages and unhealthy eating habits, are associated with a greater possibility of having cardiovascular risk. It was found in a large percentage of the study population cardiovascular risk

Involvement of microRNA Lethal-7a in the Regulation of Embryo Implantation in Mice

MicroRNAs interact with multiple mRNAs resulting in their degradation and/or translational repression. This report used the delayed implantation model to determine the role of miRNAs in blastocysts. Dormant blastocysts in delayed implanting mice were activated by estradiol. Differential expression of 45 out of 238 miRNAs examined was found between the dormant and the activated blastocysts. Five of the nine members of the microRNA lethal-7 (let-7) family were down-regulated after activation. Human blastocysts also had a low expression of let-7 family. Forced-expression of a family member, let-7a in mouse blastocysts decreased the number of implantation sites (let-7a: 1.1±0.4; control: 3.8±0.4) in vivo, and reduced the percentages of blastocyst that attached (let-7a: 42.0±8.3%; control: 79.0±5.1%) and spreaded (let-7a: 33.5±2.9%; control: 67.3±3.8%) on fibronectin in vitro. Integrin-β3, a known implantation-related molecule, was demonstrated to be a target of let-7a by 3′-untranslated region reporter assay in cervical cancer cells HeLa, and Western blotting in mouse blastocysts. The inhibitory effect of forced-expression of let-7a on blastocyst attachment and outgrowth was partially nullified in vitro and in vivo by forced-expression of integrin-β3. This study provides the first direct evidence that let-7a is involved in regulating the implantation process partly via modulation of the expression of integrin-β3. (200 words)

Association of insularity and body condition to cloacal bacteria prevalence in a small shorebird

Do islands harbour less diverse disease communities than mainland? The island biogeography theory predicts more diverse communities on mainland than on islands due to more niches, more diverse habitats and availability of greater range of hosts. We compared bacteria prevalences ofCampylobacter,ChlamydiaandSalmonellain cloacal samples of a small shorebird, the Kentish plover (Charadrius alexandrinus) between two island populations of Macaronesia and two mainland locations in the Iberian Peninsula. Bacteria were found in all populations but, contrary to the expectations, prevalences did not differ between islands and mainland. Females had higher prevalences than males forSalmonellaand when three bacteria genera were pooled together. Bacteria infection was unrelated to bird's body condition but females from mainland were heavier than males and birds from mainland were heavier than those from islands. Abiotic variables consistent throughout breeding sites, like high salinity that is known to inhibit bacteria growth, could explain the lack of differences in the bacteria prevalence between areas. We argue about the possible drivers and implications of sex differences in bacteria prevalence in Kentish plovers

Asymptotics for the spectrum of a floquet-parametric family of homogenization problems associated with a Dirichlet waveguide

In this chapter, we address the asymptotic behavior of the eigenvalues and eigenfunctions of a parametric family of problems for the Laplace operator posed on a rectangular perforated domain of the plane. The perforations are periodically placed along the ordinate axis. The two parameters of the problem are the period, which converges toward zero, and the so-called Floquet parameter. The boundary conditions are quasi-periodicity conditions on the lateral sides of the rectangle and Dirichlet over the rest. In particular, we provide bounds for convergence rates of the eigenvalues which are uniform in both parameter
