L∞-norm and energy quantization for the planar Lane–Emden problem with large exponent

For any smooth bounded domain (Formula presented.), we consider positive solutions to (Formula presented.)which satisfy the uniform energy bound (Formula presented.)for (Formula presented.). We prove convergence to (Formula presented.) as (Formula presented.) of the (Formula presented.)-norm of any solution. We further deduce quantization of the energy to multiples of (Formula presented.), thus completing the analysis performed in De Marchis et al. (J Fixed Point Theory Appl 19:889–916, 2017)

State Trading: Its Nature and International Treatment

    Get PDF
At least six considerations compel a review of the international practice of state trading. First, state trading is practiced widely throughout the world and embraces at least one quarter of world trade. From a domestic perspective, United States trade with state trading countries continues to grow and, therefore, is directly relevant to the United States national interest. Second, increasing international economic interdependence has augmented the role of state trading in international trade by the inducements of economic necessity and efficiency. Third, recent Eastern European trends toward greater private economic autonomy have facilitated trade relations between free market countries and state trading countries, thereby fostering a stronger economic nexus between market economics and nonmarket economies. Fourth, to the extent that foreign policy making and international trade are intertwined, state trading enters the policy making calculus as a relevant factor. Fifth, current political unrest and uncertainty in state trading countries, as in Poland and the U.S.S.R. for example, have actual and potential repercussions on the financial, legal and political aspects of international trade. Sixth, state trading itself is organization (e.g., the foreign trade structure of the Soviet Union). These considerations have important implications for the legal, political and economic frameworks in which state trading is practiced

Respondent Self-Focus and the Internal Consistency of the Motivational Style Profile

    Get PDF
One of the underlying tenets of both personality and social psychological theory assumes that questionnaire respondents have access to their thoughts and feelings. The same tenet underlies the various reversal theory states (e.g., telic/paratelic, negativism/conformity, autic mastery /sympathy, alloic mastery/sympathy), so that individuals who are more internally focused should have better access to their internal states and have higher internal consistency ratings across all measures. To evaluate this tenet, 620 participants recruited from a community sample completed a questionnaire that included the Motivational Style Profile and three self-focus measures: self-monitoring, identity formation, and private self-consciousness. Participants were divided (by median split) into low and high self-focus categories for each measure. Results showed that highly self-focused individuals had significantly higher internal consistency estimates. Implications for the psychometric properties of the MSP are discussed, as are directions for future research

Evaluation of Commercial Meat Products of Red Chicken Reared under LED Lights

The objective of our study was to investigate the role of three different light-color tempera-tures of Light-Emitting Diodes (LEDs) [Neutral (K = 3300 − 3700); Warm (K = 3000 − 2500) and Cool (K = 5500 − 6000)] on the qualitative attributes of breast meat obtained from male AZ Extra Heavy Red chickens. The comparison was made with meat deriving from chickens reared in the presence of classic neon lighting (Control). The meat was analyzed for the determination of both physical and chemical properties (cooking loss, moisture, total lipids and fatty acid composition). Furthermore, meat samples subjected to cooking were also analyzed for the identification of volatile compounds produced during the process; such evaluation was performed both immediately after cooking (T0) and after 7 days (T7) of cooked-meat storage at 4◦ C. Cooking-loss values were higher for samples from chickens raised with Neutral LED (p < 0.05) compared to the other groups. For the fatty acid profiles of the meat, higher values were found for monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFAs) such as C18:1, C9 and C16:1 in Cool LED compared to the Control. Regarding the volatile profile of cooked meat, compounds belonging to the families of aldehydes, alcohols, ketones, and aromatic compounds were identified. Compounds belonging to the aldehyde family, such as hexanal, increased in Cool LED samples at T0 in comparison to the Control. On the other hand, the amounts of 1-Pentanol, 1-Octanol and 2-Octen-1-ol, which belong to the alcohol family, increased at T7 in Cool LED samples compared to the Warm LED. In conclusion, LED lighting showed to be effective in inducing significant variations on chicken breast meat ready to be introduced to the market, in particular regarding fatty acid profiles and the accumulation of volatile compounds. However more in-depth evaluation is needed for the identification of modifications regarding the sensorial sphere, which could have an impact on the consumer acceptability of the product

Non-radial sign-changing solutions for the Schroedinger-Poisson problem in the semiclassical limit

    Get PDF
We study the existence of nonradial sign-changing solutions to the Schroedinger-Poisson system in dimension N>=3. We construct nonradial sign-changing multi-peak solutions whose peaks are displaced in suitable symmetric configurations and collapse to the same point. The proof is based on the Lyapunov-Schmidt reduction
