Measuring Bs Width Difference at the Upsilon(5s) Using Quantum Entanglement

About 90% of Bs-bar Bs pairs produced at the Upsilon(5s) resonance are initially Bs*-bar Bs* pairs which decay radiatively to Bs-bar Bs. This implies that the Bs pair will then be in an eigenstate of charge conjugation (i.e. C=-1) and therefore in an entangled state. This allows for a determination of Delta Gamma/Gamma and the CP phase using a number of possible correlations between the decays of the two Bs mesons. In particular, we consider the time integrated correlation; the time ordering asymmetry and the time ordering-charge asymmetry, which in addition to time ordering distinguishes Bs from Bs-bar, for various combinations of final states. With the statistics of about O(10^7-10^8) Upsilon(5s) events available at B factories, we find that the time ordering asymmetry between suitably defined hadronic and flavor specific (tagging) decays offers a promising method for determining the width difference. The corresponding time ordering-charge asymmetry can also bound the mixing phase. Similar observables involving exclusive decays are also considered. At the super B factories with O(50) times greater luminosity time ordering and time ordering-charge asymmetries between inclusive and exclusive modes may also provide additional bounds on the phases in those decays;Comment: no figures; Updated version: This is the version accepted by Phys Rev D; Some additional comments were added between equations 8 and 12, also reference 20 to recent D0 results was adde

Objective: Versatile biological activities of nitrogen containing heterocycles in medicinal chemistry, mainly pyrimidine and pyridine ring based heterocyclic moieties are very important. Pharmaceutical important of pyrimidine and isoniazid moiety prompted us to synthesize isoniazid clubbed pyrimidine derivatives and evaluated for antimicrobial and antituberculosis activity.Method: 2-(2-(3-bromo benzylidene)-1-isonicotinoyl hydrazinyl)-N-(4-(substituted phenyl)-6-(substituted aryl) pyrimidin-2-yl) acetamide 2(A-J) have been synthesized by condensation reaction of 2-chloro-N-[4-(substituted phenyl)-6-(substituted aryl) pyrimidin-2-yl] acetamide and N'-[(E)- (3-bromophenyl) methylidene]pyridine-4-carbohydrazide. All newly synthesized compounds were screened for in vitro antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, and Staphylococcus pyogenes, antifungal against Candida albicans, Aspergillus niger, and Aspergillus clavatus, and antituberculosis activity against Mycobacterium tuberculosis H37RV.Results: Majority of the compounds exhibited good antibacterial, antifungal, and antituberculosis activity. All titled compounds were characterized by spectral analyses (infrared spectroscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, and mass spectroscopy). Conclusion: 2-(2-(3-bromo benzylidene)-1-isonicotinoyl hydrazinyl)-N-(4-(substituted phenyl)-6-(substituted aryl) pyrimidin-2-yl) acetamide 2(A-J) showed good antimicrobial activity and comparatively good antituberculosis activity. Hence, all the compounds of this series considered for future investigation mainly in area of antibacterial, antifungal study

Bose-Einstein condensates with attractive 1/r interaction: The case of self-trapping

Amplifying on a proposal by O'Dell et al. for the realization of Bose-Einstein condensates of neutral atoms with attractive 1/r1/r interaction, we point out that the instance of self-trapping of the condensate, without external trap potential, is physically best understood by introducing appropriate "atomic" units. This reveals a remarkable scaling property: the physics of the condensate depends only on the two parameters N2a/auN^2 a/a_u and γ/N2\gamma/N^2, where NN is the particle number, aa the scattering length, aua_u the "Bohr" radius and γ\gamma the trap frequency in atomic units. We calculate accurate numerical results for self-trapping wave functions and potentials, for energies, sizes and peak densities, and compare with previous variational results. As a novel feature we point out the existence of a second solution of the extended Gross-Pitaevskii equation for negative scattering lengths, with and without trapping potential, which is born together with the ground state in a tangent bifurcation. This indicates the existence of an unstable collectively excited state of the condensate for negative scattering lengths.Comment: 7 pages, 7 figures, to appear in Phys. Rev.

Enhanced CP Violation with B→KD0(D‾0)B\to K D^0 (\overline D^0) Modes and Extraction of the CKM Angle gamma

The Gronau-London-Wyler (GLW) method extracts the CKM angle γ\gamma by measuring B±B^\pm decay rates involving D0/D‾0D^0/\overline D^0 mesons. Since that method necessitates the interference between two amplitudes that are significantly different in magnitude, the resulting asymmetries tend to be small. CP violation can be greatly enhanced for decays to final states that are common to both D^0 and D‾0\overline D^0 and that are not CP eigenstates. In particular, large asymmetries are possible for final states f such that D0→fD^0\to f is doubly Cabibbo suppressed while D‾0→f\overline D^0\to f is Cabibbo allowed. The measurement of interference effects in two such modes allows the extraction of γ\gamma without prior knowledge of Br(B−→K−D‾0)Br(B^-\to K^- \overline D^0), which may be difficult to determine due to backgrounds.Comment: 12 pages, LaTeX, no figure

Primordial germ cells (PGCs) are cells that will differentiate themselves into spermatogonia in the testis or oogonia in the ovary. Primordial germ cells arise from epiblast and circulate through the bloodstream and finally entering gonadal anlage. The aim of this study was to determine the number of gonadal PGCs of KUB chicken at different development stages. Sixty KUB chicken fertile eggs were divided into four groups (6, 7, 8, and 9 days incubation periods), and incubated at 38 oC with a humidity of 60%. Harvesting was synchronized to the embryonic development at 6-9 d. Gonads were collected using sharp tweezers, and were placed in Eppendorf tube 1.5 mL containing 500 µL PBS [-]. Gonadal PGCs were purified using PBS [-]. The results showed that the average number of gonadal PGCs at 6, 7, 8, and 9 d were 113.7; 143.5; 92.9; and 85.7 cells per embryo, respectively. Number of gonadal PGCs per embryo of KUB chicken were significantly affected by stage of embryonic development (P<0.05), which reached a peak at day 7 of incubation, so that the isolation and collection of PGCs from the gonads were recommended at day 7 of incubation. This information is useful in production of germline chimera of other Indonesian local chickens
