    Quantum Games with Correlated Noise

    We analyze quantum game with correlated noise through generalized quantization scheme. Four different combinations on the basis of entanglement of initial quantum state and the measurement basis are analyzed. It is shown that the advantage that a quantum player can get by exploiting quantum strategies is only valid when both the initial quantum state and the measurement basis are in entangled form. Furthermore, it is shown that for maximum correlation the effects of decoherence diminish and it behaves as a noiseless game.Comment: 12 page

    This article traces elements of the learning of a doctoral student. It concerns attempts to bridge a number of gaps between supervisor and student in the process of studying for a Ph.D. In particular, it portrays differences in culture, gender, family, age and experience and how those differences influenced the thinking of the student. A layered discourse of readings, misreadings and re-readings is developed, drawing on the substantive literature on ‘lone motherhood’, on studies of doctoral supervision and on anthropological insights into the nature of cultural differences. It is a case study in finding the ‘missing’ (or not yet known) person who is the lone mother and the lone researcher who ‘reveals’ herself to herself through interaction with her supervisors. The supervisors are also ‘rewritten’ in their situated self-understanding during this process

    Cell visco-elasticity measured with AFM and optical trapping at sub-micrometer deformations

    The measurement of the elastic properties of cells is widely used as an indicator for cellular changes during differentiation, upon drug treatment, or resulting from the interaction with the supporting matrix. Elasticity is routinely quantified by indenting the cell with a probe of an AFM while applying nano-Newton forces. Because the resulting deformations are in the micrometer range, the measurements will be affected by the finite thickness of the cell, viscous effects and even cell damage induced by the experiment itself. Here, we have analyzed the response of single 3T3 fibroblasts that were indented with a micrometer-sized bead attached to an AFM cantilever at forces from 30–600 pN, resulting in indentations ranging from 0.2 to 1.2 micrometer. To investigate the cellular response at lower forces up to 10 pN, we developed an optical trap to indent the cell in vertical direction, normal to the plane of the coverslip. Deformations of up to two hundred nanometers achieved at forces of up to 30 pN showed a reversible, thus truly elastic response that was independent on the rate of deformation. We found that at such small deformations, the elastic modulus of 100 Pa is largely determined by the presence of the actin cortex. At higher indentations, viscous effects led to an increase of the apparent elastic modulus. This viscous contribution that followed a weak power law, increased at larger cell indentations. Both AFM and optical trapping indentation experiments give consistent results for the cell elasticity. Optical trapping has the benefit of a lower force noise, which allows a more accurate determination of the absolute indentation. The combination of both techniques allows the investigation of single cells at small and large indentations and enables the separation of their viscous and elastic components

    Measurement of the electric dipole moments for transitions to rubidium Rydberg states via Autler-Townes splitting

    We present the direct measurements of electric-dipole moments for 5P3/2→nD5/25P_{3/2}\to nD_{5/2} transitions with 20<n<4820<n<48 for Rubidium atoms. The measurements were performed in an ultracold sample via observation of the Autler-Townes splitting in a three-level ladder scheme, commonly used for 2-photon excitation of Rydberg states. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first systematic measurement of the electric dipole moments for transitions from low excited states of rubidium to Rydberg states. Due to its simplicity and versatility, this method can be easily extended to other transitions and other atomic species with little constraints.     A molecular phylogeny of selected species of Genus Prunus L. (Rosaceae) from Pakistan using the TRN-L & TRN-F spacer DNA

    The genus Prunus L. is an important plant for fruit production and it includes plums, apricots, cherries, almonds and peaches that are sources of food for the local people. The family Rosaceae is not yet published in Flora of Pakistan and there is a lot of taxonomic work that is yet to be done for the proper classification and placement of different genera under different sub-families. Prunus is found in almost all the four provinces of Pakistan including Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (former NWFP), Sindh and Baluchistan which includes Azad Kashmir region. In the present study, the genus Prunus was studied in detail to find out the phylogenetic relationship among the 12 species of Prunus selected from different regions of Pakistan and GenBank using the maximum parsimony analysis of sequence polymorphism in chloroplast TRN-L and TRN-F spacer DNA. The results for the TRN-L and TRN-F primers confirm the work done by early phylogenetists including Potter and Bortiri with additions to new species from Pakistan including Prunus dulcis (Mill.) D.A. Webb. (Syn. Prunus amygdalus) and Prunus cornuta (Wall. ex. Royle) Steudel. which are indigenous to Pakistan.Key Words: Prunus, chloroplast, TRN-L, TRN-F, Pakistan

    Peace and interfaith dialogue: role of Barcelona Muslim Community

    The peace building efforts of the Muslim community in Barcelona is evident from the fact that they demonstrated unity after the twin terrorist attacks which hit the city of Barcelona in 2017. The study has determined to analyze whether interfaith dialogue can play an instrumental role in fostering peace, highlight the efforts and contributions rendered by Muslims for initiating interfaith dialogue and identify different challenges for effective interfaith dialogue in Barcelona. It is a qualitative study therefore I have conducted structured interviews with eighteen (18) people in Barcelona for primary data collection. In order to analyze the interviews, I employed thematic analysis tool to accomplish the data interpretation process. Findings also revealed the significance and need of interfaith Dialogue and explicated the role of Muslim community and obstructed challenge for peace building and interfaith dialogue in the case of Barcelona. For Future studies can attempt to explore the role of Muslim community in peace building in Spain

    GA Based Sensing of Sparse Multipath Channels with Superimposed Training Sequence

    This paper proposes an improved Genetic Algorithms (GA) based sparse multipath channels estimation technique with Superimposed Training (ST) sequences. A non-random and periodic training sequence is proposed to be added arithmetically on the information sequence for energy efficient channel estimation within the future generation of wireless receivers. This eliminates the need of separate overhead time/frequency slots for training sequence. The results of the proposed technique are compared with the techniques in the existing literature -the notable first order statistics based channel estimation technique with ST. The normalized channel mean-square error (NCMSE) and bit-error-rate (BER) are chosen as performance measures for the simulation based analysis. It is established that the proposed technique performs better in terms of the accuracy of estimated channel; subsequently the quality of service (QoS), while retrieving information sequence at the receiver. With respect to its comparable counterpart, the proposed GA based scheme delivers an improvement of about 1dB in NCMSE at 12 dB SNR and a gain of about 2 dB in SNR at 10-1 BER, for the population size set at twice the length of channel. It is also demonstrated that, this achievement in performance improvement can further be enhanced at the cost of computational power by increasing the population size

    Infection of hepatitis C virus genotypes in hepatocellular carcinoma patients from rural areas of Faisalabad region, Pakistan

    The aim of this retrospective study was to investigate the infection of hepatitis C virus (HCV) genotypes in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients from rural areas of Faisalabad region. Among 179 HCC subjects, men and women were 51 and 49%, respectively. All samples positive for HCV RNA by qualitative PCR were genotyped, applying genotype-specific PCR. They were confirmed using HCV 5’ non-coding region sequence analytical data. Major risk factor for HCC development and progression was identified to be chronic HCV. It was found among 56.5 ± 2.1 years of age. All these HCC cases were HCV-related and no case was linked with other types of viruses. Using genotype specific primers, HCV genotype 3a (55.3%) was significantly (P&lt;0.0001) higher, followed by 3b (15.8%), 1 (9.24%), 4 (8.05%) and 2 (7.15%). Other genotypes, namely 5a and 6a were only 1.19 and 1.05% among the HCC patients. About 1.05% remained un-typed because of minute viral load. HCV genotype 3a was strongly linked with HCC, followed by 3b. Moreover, HCC was linked with liver cirrhosis (81%). It is suggested that genotyping may be recommended before starting interferon therapy.Key words: Etiology, genotyping, hepatitis C virus, hepatocellular carcinoma, prevalence, α-fetoprotein

    Bacteriophages fEV-1 and fD1 Infect Yersinia pestis

    Bacteriophages vB_YpeM_fEV-1 (fEV-1) and vB_YpeM_fD1 (fD1) were isolated from incoming sewage water samples in Turku, Finland, using Yersinia pestis strains EV76 and KIM D27 as enrichment hosts, respectively. Genomic analysis and transmission electron microscopy established that fEV-1 is a novel type of dwarf myovirus, while fD1 is a T4-like myovirus. The genome sizes are 38 and 167 kb, respectively. To date, the morphology and genome sequences of some dwarf myoviruses have been described; however, a proteome characterization such as the one presented here, has currently been lacking for this group of viruses. Notably, fEV-1 is the first dwarf myovirus described for Y. pestis. The host range of fEV-1 was restricted strictly to Y. pestis strains, while that of fD1 also included other members of Enterobacterales such as Escherichia coli and Yersinia pseudotuberculosis.
