Treballs Finals de Grau d'Enginyeria Biomèdica. Facultat de Medicina i Ciències de la Salut. Universitat de Barcelona. Curs: 2020-2021. Director i Tutor: Manel Puig i VidalMinimally invasive surgery (MIS) is continuously evolving and improving its techniques due to the fact that is being more and more used given its numerous advantages, which may go from less pain and faster recovery to a better cosmetic outcome. A big advance in this technique has been the implementation of robotically assisted systems, which have loads of advantages as well. Nonetheless, they have some perks like the lack of tactile perception and loss of depth in the vision of the surgeon. Although clinicians have adopted some means to overcome these limitations, the lack of haptic feedback is still a big problem and it's frequent rupturing healthy tissues while suturing. Therefore, there is a huge urge and desire for the development of a robotically assisted surgical system that includes haptic feedback. The main goal of this project is to implement haptic feedback in a robotic arm to provide the surgeon with tactile perception during the interventions and therefore prevent damages to the patient

Traits of the exotic weeds present in crops of Catalonia (Spain)

Algunes espècies han arribat a manifestar una gran nocivitat poc després d’haver estat introduïdes, mentre que d’altres es comporten, o s’han comportat, com a simples efemeròfits.79 species of alien weeds have been registered in the crops of Catalonia. The majority (76%) come from the American continent and 34% come from different tropical regions of the Earth. A great percentage (77%) has been introduced during the XXth century. The traits which are best represented in these species are: annual cycle, summer phenology, not specialised dissemination strategies but related with anthropic activities, a high rate of C4 species, self-pollination and polyploidy. The crops mainly affected are maize, rice and orchards. Several species have shown high infestation levels just after being introduced, while others only play a role as ephemerophytes

OBJECTIVE: Data on early risk of infection in patients receiving their first treatment for type 2 diabetes are limited. We examined rates of community-based antibiotic use and hospital-treated infection in initiators of metformin and other glucose-lowering drugs (GLDs). DESIGN: Population-based cohort study using medical databases. SETTING: General practice and hospitals in Denmark. PARTICIPANTS: 131 949 patients with type 2 diabetes who initiated pharmacotherapy with a GLD between 2005 and 2012. EXPOSURE: Initial GLD used for pharmacotherapy. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: We computed rates and adjusted HRs of community-based antibiotic use and hospital-treated infection associated with choice of initial GLD with reference to metformin initiation, using an intention-to-treat approach. RESULTS: The rate of community-based antibiotic use was 362 per 1000 patient-years at risk (PYAR) and that for hospital-treated infection was 51 per 1000 PYAR. Compared with metformin, the risk of hospital-treated infection was slightly higher in sulfonylurea initiators (HR 1.12, 95% CI 1.08 to 1.16) and substantially higher in insulin initiators (HR 1.63, 95% CI 1.54 to 1.72) initiators after adjustment for comorbid conditions, comedications and other confounding factors. In contrast, virtually no difference was observed for overall community-based antibiotic use (HR 1.02, 95% CI 1.01 to 1.04, for sulfonylurea initiators; and 1.04, 95% CI 1.01 to 1.07, for insulin initiators). CONCLUSIONS: Rates of community-based antibiotic treatment and hospitalisation for infection were high in patients receiving their first treatment for type 2 diabetes and differed with the choice of initial GLD used for pharmacotherapy

Profinite Galois descent in K(h)-local homotopy theory

We investigate the category of K(h)-local spectra through the action of the Morava stabiliser group. Using condensed mathematics, we give a model for the continuous action of this profinite group on the ∞-category of K(h)-local modules over Morava E-theory, and explain how this gives rise to descent spectral sequences computing the Picard and Brauer groups of K(h)-local spectra. In the second part, we focus on the computation of these spectral sequences at height one, showing that they recover the Hopkins-Mahowald-Sadofsky computation of the Picard group, and giving a complete computation of the Brauer group relative to p-completed complex K-theory
