    FCNC and CP Violation Observables in a SU(3)-flavoured MSSM

    A non-Abelian flavour symmetry in a minimal supersymmetric standard model can explain the flavour structures in the Yukawa couplings and simultaneously solve the SUSY flavour problem. Similarly the SUSY CP problem can be solved if CP is spontaneously broken in the flavour sector. In this work, we present an explicit example of these statements with a SU(3) flavour symmetry and spontaneous CP violation. In addition, we show that it is still possible to find some significant deviation from the SM expectations as far as FCNC and CP violation are concerned. We find that large contributions can be expected in lepton flavour violating decays, as μeγ\mu \to e \gamma and τμγ\tau \to \mu \gamma, electric dipole moments, ded_e and dnd_n and kaon CP violating processes as ϵK\epsilon_K. Thus, these flavoured MSSM realizations are phenomenologically sensitive to the experimental searches in the realm of flavor and CP vioation physics.Comment: 56 pages, 12 figures; included new NLO contributions to nEDM from charged Higgs, relevant figures updated, and analysis of O(1) coefficients; added appendices and reference

    Lepton masses and mixing angles from heterotic orbifold models

    We systematically study the possibility for realizing realistic values of lepton mass ratios and mixing angles by using only renormalizable Yukawa couplings derived from heterotic Z6Z_6-I orbifold. We assume one pair of up and down sector Higgs fields. We consider both the Dirac neutrino mass scenario and the seesaw scenario with degenerate right-handed majorana neutrino masses. It is found that realistic values of the charged lepton mass ratios, me/mτm_e/m_\tau and mμ/mτm_\mu/m_\tau, the neutrino mass squared difference ratio, Δm312/Δm212\Delta m^2_{31}/\Delta m^2_{21}, and the lepton mixing angles can be obtained in certain cases.Comment: 22 pages, late

    Gerhart and colleagues and Huselid and Becker recently debated the presence and implications of measurement error in measures of human resource practices. This paper presents data from three more studies, one of large organizations from different industries at the corporate level, one from commercial banks, and the other of autonomous business units at the level of the job. Results of all three studies provide additional evidence that single respondent measures of HR practices contain large amounts of measurement error. Implications for future research are discussed

    Re (epsilon'/epsilon_K) vs. B_d -> phi K_S CP asymmetry

    In a SUSY GUT seesaw scenario, the largeness of the atmospheric neutrino mixing can reflect itself into an enhanced flavor changing mixing of beauty and strange right-handed scalar quarks. If the CP violating phase in such down type squark RR insertion is the main source of CP asymmetry in B_d -> phi K_S and the gluino contributions to K0-K0 bar and B0-B0 bar mixing are negligible, there is a correlation between Re (epsilon'/epsilon_K) and B_d -> phi K_S CP asymmetry, in addition to that with the strange quark CEDM. The current data on Re (epsilon'/epsilon_K) = (16.7 +- 2.6) 10^-4 imply that S_{phi K} should be greater than \sim 0.5 (0.25) for mu tan beta = 1 (5) TeV, assuming the RR dominance in b -> s transition and the minimal supergravity type boundary conditions for soft parameters.Comment: 15 pages, 2 figures.     String-derived D4 flavor symmetry and phenomenological implications

    In this paper we show how some flavor symmetries may be derived from the heterotic string, when compactified on a 6D orbifold. In the body of the paper we focus on the D4D_4 family symmetry, recently obtained in Z3×Z2Z_3 \times Z_2 orbifold constructions. We show how this flavor symmetry constrains fermion masses, as well as the soft SUSY breaking mass terms. Flavor symmetry breaking can generate the hierarchy of fermion masses and at the same time the flavor symmetry suppresses large flavor changing neutral current processes.Comment: 17 pages, no figur

    Lepton non-universality at LEP and charged Higgs

    A recent analysis of the LEP data shows an interesting deviation from lepton universality in W boson decays. An excess at the level of 2.8 sigma is found in the tau mode branching ratio with respect to the other two modes. It is suggested that this seeming lepton non-universality might stem from pair production of charged Higgs bosons almost degenerate with W, that preferentially decay to heavy fermions. It is shown that the deviation can be reduced to 1.4 sigma in two Higgs doublet model I without any conflict with the existing direct or indirect constraints. This conclusion is largely independent of tan beta, the ratio of Higgs vacuum expectation values. This scenario can be tested at the forthcoming international linear collider.Comment: 16 pages, published version with minor change

    An experimental study on water surface profiles of high Froude number flows

    Motivated by need to study supercritical overbank flows on floodplain, we experimentally investigate if initially supercritical flow in a rectangular flume would maintain its state throughout. Varying upstream gate opening, flow rate and angle of the slope, a total of 37 experimental cases were carried out. The experimental results are compared to two existing theories: an inviscid theory based on nonlinear shallow water equations and jump conditions and a hydraulic theory that takes friction into account. The experimental data are consistent with the two theories. Flows on downward slope were stable, while those on upward slope had unstable hydraulic jump and transformed into subcritical flow.     Quasi-coherent fluctuation measurement with the upgraded microwave imaging reflectometer in KSTAR

    The microwave imaging reflectometer (MIR) is the leading diagnostic tool for study of density fluctuations in KSTAR. For last three years since 2014, major components such as the multi-frequency probe beam source, multi-channel detector array, signal processing electronic system, data acquisition system, and optical system have been gradually upgraded. In this paper, the detailed system upgrade with test results in the laboratory and/or plasma is given, and analysis results of a distinctive fluctuation structure referred to as the quasi-coherent mode (QCM) measured by the upgraded MIR system for an L-mode discharge are presented.
