Chandra astrometry sets a tight upper limit to the proper motion of SGR 1900+14
The soft gamma-ray repeater (SGR) SGR 1900+14 lies a few arcminutes outside
the edge of the shell supernova remnant (SNR) G42.8+0.6. A physical association
between the two systems has been proposed - for this and other SGR-SNR pairs -
based on the expectation of high space velocities for SGRs in the framework of
the magnetar model. The large angular separation between the SGR and the SNR
center, coupled with the young age of the system, suggest a test of the
association with a proper motion measurement. We used a set of three
Chandra/ACIS observations of the field spanning 5 years to perform accurate
relative astrometry in order to measure the possible angular displacement of
the SGR as a function of time. Our investigation sets a 3-sigma upper limit of
70 mas/yr to the overall proper motion of the SGR. Such a value argues against
an association of SGR 1900+14 with G42.8+0.6 and adds further support to the
mounting evidence for an origin of the SGR within a nearby, compact cluster of

A multideterminant assessment of mean field methods for the description of electron transfer in the weak coupling regime
Multideterminant calculations have been performed on model systems to
emphasize the role of many-body effects in the general description of charge
quantization experiments. We show numerically and derive analytically that a
closed-shell ansatz, the usual ingredient of mean-field methods, does not
properly describe the step-like electron transfer characteristic in weakly
coupled systems. With the multideterminant results as a benchmark, we have
evaluated the performance of common ab initio mean field techniques, such as
Hartree Fock (HF) and Density Functional Theory (DFT) with local and hybrid
exchange correlation functionals, with a special focus on spin-polarization
effects. For HF and hybrid DFT, a qualitatively correct open-shell solution
with distinct steps in the electron transfer behaviour can be obtained with a
spin-unrestricted (i.e., spin-polarized) ansatz though this solution differs
quantitatively from the multideterminant reference. We also discuss the
relationship between the electronic eigenvalue gap and the onset of charge
transfer for both HF and DFT and relate our findings to recently proposed
practical schemes for calculating the addition energies in the Coulomb blockade
regime for single molecule junctions from closed-shell DFT within the local
density approximation

Decision Aid Implementation and Patients' Preferences for Hip and Knee Osteoarthritis Treatment: Insights from the High Value Healthcare Collaborative.
Background:Shared decision making (SDM) research has emphasized the role of decision aids (DAs) for helping patients make treatment decisions reflective of their preferences, yet there have been few collaborative multi-institutional efforts to integrate DAs in orthopedic consultations and primary care encounters. Objective:In the context of routine DA implementation for SDM, we investigate which patient-level characteristics are associated with patient preferences for surgery versus medical management before and after exposure to DAs. We explored whether DA implementation in primary care encounters was associated with greater shifts in patients' treatment preferences after exposure to DAs compared to DA implementation in orthopedic consultations. Design:Retrospective cohort study. Setting:10 High Value Healthcare Collaborative (HVHC) health systems. Study participants:A total of 495 hip and 1343 adult knee osteoarthritis patients who were exposed to DAs within HVHC systems between July 2012 to June 2015. Results:Nearly 20% of knee patients and 17% of hip patients remained uncertain about their treatment preferences after viewing DAs. Older patients and patients with high pain levels had an increased preference for surgery. Older patients receiving DAs from three HVHC systems that transitioned DA implementation from orthopedics into primary care had lower odds of preferring surgery after DA exposure compared to older patients in seven HVHC systems that only implemented DAs for orthopedic consultations. Conclusion:Patients' treatment preferences were largely stable over time, highlighting that DAs for SDM largely do not necessarily shift preferences. DAs and SDM processes should be targeted at older adults and patients reporting high pain levels. Initiating treatment conversations in primary versus specialty care settings may also have important implications for engagement of patients in SDM via DAs
Previously Claimed(/Unclaimed) X-ray Emission Lines in High Resolution Afterglow Spectra
We review the significance determination for emission lines in the Chandra
HETGS spectrum for GRB020813, and we report on a search for additional lines in
high resolution Chandra spectra. No previously unclaimed features are found. We
also discuss the significance of lines sets reportedly discovered using XMM
data for GRB011211 and GRB030227. We find that these features are likely of

Chandra Observations of the Optically Dark GRB030528
The X-ray-rich GRB030528 was detected by the HETE satellite and its
localization was rapidly disseminated. However, early optical observations
failed to detect a counterpart source. In a 2-epoch ToO observation with
Chandra, we discovered a fading X-ray source likely counterpart to GRB030528.
The source brightness was typical of X-ray afterglows observed at similar
epochs. Other observers detected an IR source at a location consistent with the
X-ray source. The X-ray spectrum is not consistent with a large absorbing

Optical and X-ray Observations of the Afterglow to XRF030723
The X-ray-flash XRF030723 was detected by the HETE satellite and rapidly
disseminated, allowing for an optical transient to be detected ~1 day after the
burst. We discuss observations in the optical with Magellan, which confirmed
the fade of the optical transient. In a 2-epoch ToO observation with Chandra,
we discovered a fading X-ray source spatially coincident with the optical
transient. We present spectral fits to the X-ray data. We also discuss the
possibility that the source underwent a rebrightening in the X-rays, as was
observed in the optical. We find that the significance of a possible
