    On the Expected Discounted Penalty Function for the Classical Risk Model with Potentially Delayed Claims and Random Incomes

    We focus on the expected discounted penalty function of a compound Poisson risk model with random incomes and potentially delayed claims. It is assumed that each main claim will produce a byclaim with a certain probability and the occurrence of the byclaim may be delayed depending on associated main claim amount. In addition, the premium number process is assumed as a Poisson process. We derive the integral equation satisfied by the expected discounted penalty function. Given that the premium size is exponentially distributed, the explicit expression for the Laplace transform of the expected discounted penalty function is derived. Finally, for the exponential claim sizes, we present the explicit formula for the expected discounted penalty function

    Strain prioritization and genome mining for enediyne natural products

    The enediyne family of natural products has had a profound impact on modern chemistry, biology, and medicine, and yet only 11 enediynes have been structurally characterized to date. Here we report a genome survey of 3,400 actinomycetes, identifying 81 strains that harbor genes encoding the enediyne polyketide synthase cassettes that could be grouped into 28 distinct clades based on phylogenetic analysis. Genome sequencing of 31 representative strains confirmed that each clade harbors a distinct enediyne biosynthetic gene cluster. A genome neighborhood network allows prediction of new structural features and biosynthetic insights that could be exploited for enediyne discovery. We confirmed one clade as new C-1027 producers, with a significantly higher C-1027 titer than the original producer, and discovered a new family of enediyne natural products, the tiancimycins (TNMs), that exhibit potent cytotoxicity against a broad spectrum of cancer cell lines. Our results demonstrate the feasibility of rapid discovery of new enediynes from a large strain collection. IMPORTANCE Recent advances in microbial genomics clearly revealed that the biosynthetic potential of soil actinomycetes to produce enediynes is underappreciated. A great challenge is to develop innovative methods to discover new enediynes and produce them in sufficient quantities for chemical, biological, and clinical investigations. This work demonstrated the feasibility of rapid discovery of new enediynes from a large strain collection. The new C-1027 producers, with a significantly higher C-1027 titer than the original producer, will impact the practical supply of this important drug lead. The TNMs, with their extremely potent cytotoxicity against various cancer cells and their rapid and complete cancer cell killing characteristics, in comparison with the payloads used in FDA-approved antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs), are poised to be exploited as payload candidates for the next generation of anticancer ADCs. Follow-up studies on the other identified hits promise the discovery of new enediynes, radically expanding the chemical space for the enediyne family

    Analysis of Optimal Injection Ratio of Vapor Injection Heat Pump for Electric Railway Vehicles

    Air-source heat pump with vapour injection is a prospective efficient heating method for electric railway vehicles in cold regions. A heating performance analysis modelling for air source heat pump with vapour injection is set up for performance optimization in this paper. The maximum errors of the program are within 15%. Heating performance, as well as the optimal injection ratio is analysed. The optimal injection ratio varies mainly from 0.12 to 0.3 under the typical working condition of railway vehicles in winter. It goes up with increasing inlet air temperature of condenser and goes down with increasing ambient temperature. The ambient temperature has very little effect on the optimal injection temperature of the internal heat exchanger. The results indicate that the expander valve opening of the injection branch can be controlled by its outlet temperature to get the optimal heating performance

    Transcriptome Analysis of Komagataeibacter europaeus CGMCC 20445 Responses to Different Acidity Levels During Acetic Acid Fermentation

    In the industrial production of high-acidity vinegar, the initial ethanol and acetic acid concentrations are limiting factors that will affect acetic acid fermentation. In this study, Komagataeibacter europaeus CGMCC 20445 was used for acetic acid shake flask fermentation at an initial ethanol concentration of 4.3% (v/v). We conducted transcriptome analysis of K. europaeus CGMCC 20445 samples under different acidity conditions to elucidate the changes in differentially expressed genes throughout the fermentation process. We also analyzed the expression of genes associated with acid-resistance mechanisms. Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes pathway enrichment analysis showed that the differentially expressed genes were enriched in ribosomes, citrate cycle, butanoate metabolism, oxidative phosphorylation, pentose phosphate, and the fatty acid biosynthetic pathways. In addition, this study found that K. europaeus CGMCC 20445 regulates the gene expression levels of cell envelope proteins and stress-responsive proteins to adapt to the gradual increase in acidity during acetic acid fermentation. This study improved the understanding of the acid resistance mechanism of K. europaeus and provided relevant reference information for the further genetic engineering of this bacterium

    Optimization of Tag Antenna for RFID System

    Tag antenna can make RFID tags be read at a distance and do not require a line of sight between tag and reader. This paper describes design and optimization aspects of antenna coil of tag for RFID system in High Frequency (HF) band. An equivalent circuit of tag is established and a new detailed design method is demonstrated. An experimental formula with high efficiency is used to calculate the inductance of the coil. It also presents a method for inductor optimization for tag antenna design which can set different objective functions and constraints for corresponding purpose in different conditions easily. Through the calculation of Matlab, the result of this method is feasible and globally convergent

    We proposed an approach to precisely control the density of tethered chains on solid substrates using PEO-b-PS and PLLA-b-PS. As the crystallization temperature T-x increased, the PEO or PLLA lamellar crystal thickness d(L) increased as well as the reduced tethering density (σ) over tilde of the PS chains. The onset of tethered PS chains overcrowding in solution occurs at (σ) over tilde*similar to3.7-3.8 as evidenced by an abrupt change in the slope between (d(L))(-1) and T-x. This results from the extra surface free energy created by the tethered chain that starts to affect the growth barrier of the crystalline blocks

    Disentangling the effects of vapor pressure deficit on northern terrestrial vegetation productivity

    The impact of atmospheric vapor pressure deficit (VPD) on plant photosynthesis has long been acknowledged, but large interactions with air temperature (T) and soil moisture (SM) still hinder a complete understanding of the influence of VPD on vegetation production across various climate zones. Here, we found a diverging response of productivity to VPD in the Northern Hemisphere by excluding interactive effects of VPD with T and SM. The interactions between VPD and T/SM not only offset the potential positive impact of warming on vegetation productivity but also amplifies the negative effect of soil drying. Notably, for high-latitude ecosystems, there occurs a pronounced shift in vegetation productivity\u27s response to VPD during the growing season when VPD surpasses a threshold of 3.5 to 4.0 hectopascals. These results yield previously unknown insights into the role of VPD in terrestrial ecosystems and enhance our comprehension of the terrestrial carbon cycle\u27s response to global warming
