Phenomenology of plasma engine cathodes at high current rates and low pressures
The effects of low surrounding pressures on cathodes of arc jet engines with electromagnetic acceleration are investigated for pressure and current energies of 20 to 100 Torr. and 400 to 1000 A. Experiments with 50 mm long and 8 mm diameter tungsten-thorium cathode in a coaxial gas flow show that pre-heating of the cathode reduces the duration of the instable arc discharge and thus material loss. The use of lighter gases also reduces instability effects, as well as the use of increased pressures and a massive gas influx
Supporting College Students with A.D.H.D.
Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) negatively affects individuals in many aspects of life from childhood through adulthood, via invisible yet profound ways, through deficits in executive, social, and emotional functioning. This paper gives special consideration to the unique needs, challenges, and experiences of college students with ADHD, to inform university student support staff, counselors, and other advocates of college students of best practices and resources available to the ADHD population. The purpose of this paper is to clarify the experience of college students with ADHD and to offer tools to the professionals who support them. Particularly, this paper explains: 1) features of the disorder, 2) specific components of executive functioning and their importance, 3) social and emotional difficulties, and 4) specific supports to meet the challenges of this group of college students
Gen Y in Public Accounting: A Conceptual Model of Retention
The incongruence between the characteristics of Generation Y employees and the nature of work and operating structure within the public accounting industry is analyzed. It is theorized that this incongruence will lead to increased turnover rates among Generation Y employees and create a tipping point in public accounting as Baby Boomers continue to retire. Ultimately, this creates a deficit of midlevel employees that could potentially lead to decreased performance among public accounting firms. A conceptual model of improved retention emphasizing balance and flexibility, building a sense of accomplishment, and fostering an environment of achievement and progression is proposed
Gettysburg College Life in Fall 1963
The 1960s were a tumultuous decade full of social change and political conflict. This project explores Gettysburg College life in the fall semester of 1963 from a variety of scopes
Making Maps with Population Data
Students will create choropleth maps using the 3 methods of equal frequency, equal interval, and natural breaks. Students will compare the 3 maps for accuracy and bias. Students will analyze the maps and develop hypotheses about population to plan for the future
