Population redistribution in optically trapped polar molecules
We investigate the rovibrational population redistribution of polar molecules
in the electronic ground state induced by spontaneous emission and blackbody
radiation. As a model system we use optically trapped LiCs molecules formed by
photoassociation in an ultracold two-species gas. The population dynamics of
vibrational and rotational states is modeled using an ab-initio electric dipole
moment function and experimental potential energy curves. Comparison with the
evolution of the v"=3 electronic ground state yields good qualitative
agreement. The analysis provides important input to assess applications of
ultracold LiCs molecules in quantum simulation and ultracold chemistry.Comment: 6 pages, 5 figures, EPJD Topical issue on Cold Quantum Matter -

The last stand before MAP: cosmological parameters from lensing, CMB and galaxy clustering
Cosmic shear measurements have now improved to the point where they deserve
to be treated on par with CMB and galaxy clustering data for cosmological
parameter analysis, using the full measured aperture mass variance curve rather
than a mere phenomenological parametrization thereof. We perform a detailed
9-parameter analysis of recent lensing (RCS), CMB (up to Archeops) and galaxy
clustering (2dF) data, both separately and jointly. CMB and 2dF data are
consistent with a simple flat adiabatic scale-invariant model with
Omega_Lambda=0.72+/-0.09, omega_cdm=0.115+/- 0.013, omega_b=0.024+/-0.003, and
a hint of reionization around z~8. Lensing helps further tighten these
constraints, but reveals tension regarding the power spectrum normalization:
including the RCS survey results raises sigma8 significantly and forces other
parameters to uncomfortable values. Indeed, sigma8 is emerging as the currently
most controversial cosmological parameter, and we discuss possible resolutions
of this sigma8 problem. We also comment on the disturbing fact that many recent
analyses (including this one) obtain error bars smaller than the Fisher matrix
bound. We produce a CMB power spectrum combining all existing experiments, and
using it for a "MAP versus world" comparison next month will provide a powerful
test of how realistic the error estimates have been in the cosmology community.Comment: Added references and Fisher error discussion. Combined CMB data,
window and covariance matrix for January "MAP vs World" contest at

BestMap: context-aware SKOS vocabulary mappings in OWL 2
This paper describes an approach to SKOS vocabulary mapping that takes into account the context in which vocabulary terms are used in annotations. The standard vocabulary mapping properties in SKOS only allow for binary mappings between concepts. In the BestMap ontology, annotated resources are the contexts in which annotations coincide and allow for a more fine grained control over when mappings hold. A mapping between two vocabularies is defined as a class that groups descriptions of a resource. We use the OWL 2 features for property chains, disjoint properties, union, intersection and negation together with careful use of equivalence and subsumption to specify these mappings
OWL 2 Web Ontology Language: structural specification and functional-style syntax
The OWL 2 Web Ontology Language, informally OWL 2, is an ontology language for the Semantic Web with formally defined meaning. OWL 2 ontologies provide classes, properties, individuals, and data values and are stored as Semantic Web documents. OWL 2 ontologies can be used along with information written in RDF, and OWL 2 ontologies themselves are primarily exchanged as RDF documents. The OWL 2 Document Overview describes the overall state of OWL 2, and should be read before other OWL 2 documents. The meaningful constructs provided by OWL 2 are defined in terms of their structure. As well, a functional-style syntax is defined for these constructs, with examples and informal descriptions. One can reason with OWL 2 ontologies under either the RDF-Based Semantics [OWL 2 RDF-Based Semantics] or the Direct Semantics [OWL 2 Direct Semantics]. If certain restrictions on OWL 2 ontologies are satisfied and the ontology is in OWL 2 DL, reasoning under the Direct Semantics can be implemented using techniques well known in the literature
Weak lensing calibrated M-T scaling relation of galaxy groups in the COSMOS field
The scaling between X-ray observables and mass for galaxy clusters and groups is instrumental for cluster-based cosmology and an important probe for the thermodynamics of the intracluster gas. We calibrate a scaling relation between the weak lensing mass and X-ray spectroscopic temperature for 10 galaxy groups in the COSMOS field, combined with 55 higher-mass clusters from the literature. The COSMOS data includes Hubble Space Telescope imaging and redshift measurements of 46 source galaxies per arcminute2, enabling us to perform unique weak lensing measurements of low-mass systems. Our sample extends the mass range of the lensing calibrated M-T relation an order of magnitude lower than any previous study, resulting in a power-law slope of . The slope is consistent with the self-similar model, predictions from simulations, and observations of clusters. However, X-ray observations relying on mass measurements derived under the assumption of hydrostatic equilibrium have indicated that masses at group scales are lower than expected. Both simulations and observations suggest that hydrostatic mass measurements can be biased low. Our external weak lensing masses provide the first observational support for hydrostatic mass bias at group level, showing an increasing bias with decreasing temperature and reaching a level of 30%-50% at 1 keV
