A novel method for determining fixed running time in operating electric train tracking optimal speed profile

    Get PDF
Tracking the optimal speed profile in electric train operation has been proposed as a potential solution for reducing energy consumption in electric train operation, at no cost to improve infrastructure of existing Metro lines as well. However, the optimal speed profile needs to meet fixed running time. Therefore, this paper focuses on a new method for determining the fixed running time complied with the scheduled timetable when trains track the optimal speed profile. The novel method to ensure the fixed running time is the numerical-analytical one. Calculating accelerating time ta, coasting time tc, braking time tb via values of holding speed vh, braking speed vb of optimal speed profile with the constraint condition: the running time equal to the demand time. The other hands, vh and vb are determined by solving nonlinear equations with constraint conditions. Additionally, changing running time suit for each operation stage of metro lines or lines starting to conduct schedules by the numerical-analytical method is quite easy. Simulation results obtained for two scenarios with data collected from electrified trains of Cat Linh-Ha Dong metro line, Vietnam show that running time complied with scheduled timetables, energy saving by tracking optimal speed profile for the entire route is up to 8.7%, if the running time is one second longer than original time, energy saving is about 11.96%

Large displacements of FGSW beams in thermal environment using a finite element formulation

    Get PDF
The large displacements of functionally graded sandwich (FGSW) beams in thermal environment  are studied using a finite element formulation. The beams are composed of three layers, a homogeneous core and two functionally graded face sheets with volume fraction of constituents following a power gradation law. The material properties of the beams are considered to be temperature-dependent.  Based on Antman beam model and the total Lagrange formulation, a two-node nonlinear beam element taking the effect of temperature rise into account  is formulated and employed in the study. The element with explicit expressions for the internal force vector and tangent stiffness matrix is derived using linear interpolations and reduced integration technique to avoid the shear locking. Newton-Raphson based iterative algorithm is employed in combination with the arc-length control method to compute the large displacement response of a cantilever FGSW beam subjected to end forces.  The accuracy of the formulated element is confirmed through a comparison study. The effects of the material inhomogeneity, temperature rise and layer thickness ratio on the large deflection response of the beam are examined and highlighted

The purpose of this study was to further characterize the multi-antimicrobial resistance and antibiotic resistance gene expression associated with multi-drug resistance (MDR) in Salmonella spp. isolates from retail meats in Hanoi, Vietnam. A total of 14 Salmonella spp. belonging to 9 serotypes (e.g., Warragul, London, Derby, Indiana, Meleagridis, Give, Rissen, Assine, and Typhimurium) were tested for sensitivity to 8 antibiotics. Resistance to at least one antibiotic was shown in 13 strains (92.85%). The multiple antimicrobial resistances accounted for 64.29% of isolates (9/14). One hundred percent of MDR isolates possessed antibiotic resistant genes, in which 17, 16 and 11 genes were found in Salmonella (Salm) Typhimurium S360, S384, S181 respectively; 12 genes in each strain as Indiana, Warragul, and Meleagridis; 11 genes in Give, 8 genes in Derby and 6 genes in Rissen. Three antibiotic resistance genes (ssaQ, aadA, and gyrB) were present in all isolates, whereas Cephalosporin-resistant gene (e.g., CTX-M3-like) was not detected in any isolates. The results suggest that retail meats could constitute a source of human exposure to multi-drug resistant Salmonella and future research should focus on the impact of these MDR source on the human genome. Multivalvular involvement associated with Libman-Sacks endocarditis detected by multimodality imaging: A case report

    Get PDF
Libman-Sacks endocarditis accounts for 6–11 percent of systemic lupus erythematosus patients and is associated with varying degrees of valvular dysfunction, increased risk for stroke and transient ischemic attacks, and increased mortality. In previous studies, left-sided valvular Libman-Sacks vegetations were more frequently detected than right sided vegetations; reported cases of bilateral involvement is very rare. A comprehensive clinical assessment and the multimodality imaging is of utmost importance in the management of systemic lupus erythematosus. In this case report, we describe a 31-year-old female patient with uncontrolled systemic lupus erythematosus initially presented with gastrointestinal symptoms but eventually had a vegetation-like structure on the posterior leaflet of the mitral valve which was revealed during routine echocardiography. Two-dimensional/three-dimensional transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiography, cardiac magnetic resonance, and cardiac computed tomography further characterized the mitral valve vegetation and revealed an additional vegetation of the pulmonary valve. Echocardiography remains the cornerstone for the detection of Libman-Sacks vegetations. Cardiac MRI and cardiac CT are useful in characterizing lesion size and effects and may prove particularly helpful in the assessment of right-sided or multivalvular endocarditis. The presence of focal brain lesions on brain MRI prompted antithrombotic therapy

Using metagenomics tool to evaluate the enrichment efficiency of methanogens in marine sediment in Truong Sa archipelage, Khanh Hoa province, Vietnam

Methanogens (archaea bacteria that produce methan) play an important role in the anaerobic digestion of organic waste, however, in marine environment, the low density of methanogens makes anaerobic digestion very slow. In this study, we used methagenomics tool to evaluate the enrichment efficiency of methanogens communities in marine sediments as a basis for building a anaerobic microbial formulation to treat organic waste in marine environment. The results of determination of methanogen density by MPN method have shown that methanogen has been accumulated with higher density (up to 3.2.107 MNP/ml) through 2 times of enrichment in artificial seawater with CH3COONa 10 mM substrate. In addition, metagenomics data have also shown a decrease in the number of archaea species through each enrichment, indicating that methanogenic species have gradually dominated the microbial community. This is the first study on using metagnenomics tools to evaluate the enrichment of methanogens in marine sediment samples in Truong Sa archipelago, Vietnam. Metagenomics data help provide more reliable evidence in microbial studies, especially in obligate anaerobes such as methanogens

    Get PDF
Gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) is a non-proteinogenic amino acid, which functions as a neurotransmitter in the central nervous system. GABA has been shown to have several positive effects on human health, including reducing anxiety and promoting relaxation. In this study, various fermented fish products were screened for their ability to produce GABA. A total of 35 acid lactic producing strains were isolated from 8 samples of marine organism, 10 strains were found to have GABA-producing abilities. These strains were identified using 16S rDNA sequencing. The GABA concentrations produced by the 10 isolates ranged from 725 to 5590 mg/L. Lactobacillus brevis GB111 is the best isolated GABA producing strain, with a conversion rate up to 90.3%, which suggests that these strains may have potential applications in the food and pharmaceutical industries as a source of GABA

Vietnam is one of the nation with long coastal with many valuable resources, which is the basis for the economy development from the ocean-based activities. This paper outlined the main maritime resources and their contribution to the socio-economic development in Vietnam. The raw data was collected from the readable sources such as General Statistics Office of Vietnam, Vietnam meteorological and meteorological data center…. as well as from the practical investigation. This raw data was processed and analyzed in order to have a general view on the majority marine resources in Vietnam. The results showed that there were 5 main resources (oil, fisheries, natural hydrate, green energy, and tourism) from the ocean, which significantly contribute to the economy development of Vietnam. The highest contribution of the oil value to the GDP was witnessed in 2011 with 26.6% of the GDP. While the value of the fisheries and tourism increased every year, the natural hydrate and energy from the ocean are still young areas, however, they come one step closer to the exploitation, which can greatly contribute to the Vietnam economy growth. With these valuable resources from the sea, Vietnam need to have reasonable policies and strategies for the management, exploitation, and export in order to able to effectively use of these resources for the sustainable economy development.
