Contacts between academic societies in the lands of partitioned Poland – status of and need for research (Summary)The article describes contacts between academic societies operating in the lands of partitioned Poland. Its purpose is to present the current status of research on this very wide topic and to indicate the need for research that arises in this respect. A comprehensive view of these contacts shows that the topic has not been acknowledged to-date. Therefore, it has not been properly reflected in the professional literature. Where the topic has been recognized by authors, it has often not been properly interpreted. The most frequent mistake that has been made by researchers is perceiving the issue from an exclusively ethnic angle, which – particularly in respect of the lands of partitioned Poland – is related to the conflicts arising in such conditions. Die Wortstellung des Deutschen als Problembereich für polnische Deutschlernende mit Englischkenntnissen – eine Fehleranalyse. Didaktische Implikationen – gewählte Modelle zur Darstellung der deutschen Wortstellung

Der Beitrag ist ein Bericht über eine Studie, die unter Studierenden der Angewandten Linguistik an der Universität Gdańsk durchgeführt wurde. Die Sprachenkonstellation für die Studie war Polnisch als Muttersprache, Englisch und Deutsch als Fremdsprachen. Die Untersuchung zielte darauf ab, die Abweichungen im Bereich der Wortstellung des Deutschen in der schriftlichen Produktion nachzufragen und für die festgestellten Abweichungen die Interferenzquelle zu bestimmen. Der zweite Teil des Beitrags verbindet die Ergebnisse der Studie mit der Fremdsprachendidaktik. Es wird ein Versuch angestellt, gewählte Modelle zur Didaktisierung der deutschen Wortstellung zu vergleichen und zu diskutieren.This paper relates to a study that was carried out at the university of Gdańsk, in the department of applied linguistics. The languages for an error analysis were Polish as mother tongue, English and German as foreign languages. The aim of the study was to investigate the errors in the word order in written production in the German language and to define the source of interference for the found errors. The second part of the paper combines the results of the research with didactics of foreign languages. O narracji historii Kaszubów na wystawie stałej w Książnicy profesora Gerarda Labudy w Wejherowie

The article presents the narrative method and the tools of communication about the history of the Kashubians in a new cultural institution in Pomerania and Kashubia — Professor Gerard Labuda’s Library belonging to the Museum of Kashubian-Pomeranian Literature and Music in Wejherowo. Years ago, it was this researcher from Kashubia who established that when starting a scientific study of the history of Kashubia, one should write about the history of the Kashubians as the history of the community and the Pomeranian Ethnos. The team preparing the permanent exhibition at the Library also followed this narrative method.Artykuł przedstawia metodę narracyjną i narzędzia komunikacji o dziejach Kaszubów w nowej instytucji kultury na Pomorzu i Kaszubach — Bibliotece prof. The role of English as the first foreign language in the process of teaching German as the second foreign language – between theory and praxis

Problematyka niniejszego artykułu dotyczy praktykowania dydaktyki wielojęzyczności w nauczaniu języka niemieckiego jako drugiego języka obcego po języku angielskim. W rozważaniach teoretycznych oprócz próby zdefiniowania pojęcia wielojęzyczności i przedstawienia psycholingwistycznych podstaw dydaktyki wielojęzyczności przedstawione zostały założenia koncepcji, która we wspomnianej konstelacji językowej określana jest jako koncepcja DaFnE. Część empiryczna artykułu odnosi się do badania ankietowego, którym objęci zostali nauczyciele języka niemieckiego z terenu aglomeracji Trójmiasta. Celem badania było sprawdzenie, czy i w jakim zakresie nauczyciele języka niemieckiego praktykują dydaktykę wielojęzyczności, wykorzystując swoją znajomość języka angielskiego i znajomość języka angielskiego swoich uczniów.The following article relates to practising the didactics of multilingualism in teaching German as the second foreign language after English as the first foreign language. In the theoretic part an attempt was made to define a concept of multilingualism and to present the psycholinguistic background of the didactics of multilingualism. In addition, the tenets of the DaFnE concept that pertains to the above language constellation were presented. A human is a social being, instinctively aspiring to become fully involved with the society. According to the statistics, however, one in ten Polish people is forced to overcome various problems in order to be active in the society. What are the main problems for a person with intellectual disability and their career? One of the main barriers for persons with intellectual disability, are the difficulties with the perception of the time; comprehending the very idea of the time flow and learning to use the watch or the calendar. Wskaźniki oceny dorobku publikacyjnego - analiza wybranych przykładów

Liczba cytowań publikacji i indeks Hirscha to ilościowe wskaźniki powszechnie stosowane w ocenie dorobku publikacyjnego pracownika naukowego. W artykule omówiono pokrótce cztery źródła, z których można pozyskać wspomniane dane: Web of Science na platformie ISI Web of Knowledge, SciVerse Scopus, Google Scholar Citations i Publish or Perish. Zestawiono przykłady danych o cytowaniach publikacji siedmiu pracowników naukowych, działających w obszarze różnych dziedzin. W nawiązaniu do uzyskanych rezultatów postawiono kilka pytań, które nasuwają się w trakcie analizy ilościowej dorobku naukowego, m.in. czy jedno źródło wystarczy dla jego właściwej i wiarygodnej oceny

Cost effective filamentous phage based immunization nanoparticles displaying a full-length hepatitis B virus surface antigen

Hepatitis B virus (HBV) is one of the major causes of chronic hepatitis, cirrhosis and liver cancer. In combating HBV infections, HBV diagnosis and vaccination are therefore critical. The hepatitis B virus surface antigen (HBsAg) is a key target molecule in developing vaccines and diagnostic systems. To date, although HBsAg has been expressed in bacteria, yeasts and mammalian cells, there are still limitations in the existing ones, which leave the necessity for searching new HBsAg production methods. In this study, a simple phage display-based method was developed to produce the purified full-length HBsAg molecules for further immunization studies. For this purpose, the HBsAg coding gene was cloned into a pCANTAB5E phagemid vector and expressed on the surface of M13 filamentous phages. The HBsAg-expressing phage nanosystem was then used as immunization agent in BALB/cJ mice. The ELISA results for sera obtained from mice immunized with HBsAg-displaying phage particles revealed an immune response against HBsAg. These results demonstrate the potential use of a full-length antigen to be displayed on phages as cost effective adjuvant-free immunization agents as an alternative to the highly purified and more expensive antigens conjugated with carrier molecules

Übersetzungsstrategien von Grimms Rotkäppchen am Beispiel polnischer Übersetzungen

The fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm belong to the best-known literary works of Germany, besides the Luther Bible. They are currently published in 160 languages and have been part of the World Documentary Heritage since June 2005. In Poland, they are known in countless translations, adaptations and retellings, some of which have been greatly modified and adapted for teaching purposes and others are literally based on the original texts. The empirical part of the article refers to an experiment in which 19 subjects were presented with a translation task: to transfer selected passages of Little Red Riding Hood into Polish. In the runup to the study, it was hypothesized that the information about the status of the work as part of the World Document Heritage given to study participants should have an effect on the literal translation. The results of the experiment do not confirm the assumed hypothesis, but clearly show that the translation variants above all have to be seen as a continuation of the individual’s experiences with the fairy tale, which strongly influences that individual’s translatio
