Burnout and Job Satisfaction: Their Relationship to Perceived Competence and Work Stress Among Undergraduate and Graduate Social Workers

    Get PDF
This study investigated the effects of two types of social work competency on job satisfaction and burnout among undergraduate and graduate social workers. While previous research has suggested that perceived practice competence may increase job satisfaction and reduce burnout, the findings of this study suggest that there is a differential effect between various types of competence on these factors, especially among undergraduate workers. The findings did not support the contention that perceived practice competence was a primary cause of burnout reduction among graduate workers or undergraduate workers, when compared to other occupational stressors

Comprehensive Behavioral Intervention for Tics (CBIT) is an efficacious treatment for children with chronic tic disorders (CTDs). Nevertheless, many families of children with CTDs are unable to access CBIT due to a lack of adequately trained treatment providers, time commitment, and travel distance. This study established the interrater reliability between in-person and Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) administrations of the Yale Global Tic Severity Scale (YGTSS), and examined the preliminary efficacy, feasibility, and acceptability of VoIP-delivered CBIT for reducing tics in children with CTDs in an open case series. Across in-person and VoIP administrations of the YGTSS, results showed mean agreement of 91%, 96%, and 95% for motor, phonic, and total tic severity subscales. In the pilot feasibility study, 4 children received 8 weekly sessions of CBIT via VoIP and were assessed at pre- and posttreatment by an independent evaluator. Results showed a 29.44% decrease in clinician-rated tic severity from pre- to posttreatment on the YGTSS. Two of the 4 patients were considered treatment responders at posttreatment, using Clinical Global Impressions–Improvement ratings. Therapeutic alliance, parent and child treatment satisfaction, and videoconferencing satisfaction ratings were high. CBIT was considered feasible to implement via VoIP, although further testing is recommended

In today’s society the focus on environment and food safety is it necessary to take new technology that is develop for more efficient and rationalize food production. Precision agriculture is a key word in this technology and the development of equipment in this category is increasing. With this development it will take more use of digital tools made for support for this equipment. This paper is looking into methods for file transfer of assignments files for variable rate fertilizing with a John Deere 6130R for fertilizing with a Kverneland Exacta CL Geospread. The Geospread can do the variable rate fertilizing in a field. The goal for this paper is to uncover factors that can interfere in the file transfer a lower the limit for this equipment to be used in Norway. In order to uncover these error sources, the author have read up on the topic and described knowledge of history, environment, market, use of digital tools and the equipment used in this paper. The file transfer have been implemented in practice to have the right experience to find these factors. The file transfer itself faced various challenges. File types and folder structure turned out to be important factors for this to go without problem. There was mapped different elements that one must be aware of when one should transfer the relevant files. The various players who provide digital tools have the potential to improve the actual transfer bit to the tracto

English: The thesis is built on a qualitative contents analysis of how two different textbooks in science use language and concepts to convey concepts comprehension about energy. Energy is an comprehensive concept, and the convey have to be thoughtful to insure understanding for the pupils. The textbooks is an central part of the Norwegian school, and an important support for the pupils to achieve the knowledge goals set in the curriculum for science. The study shows that the textbooks add to developmenting of the concept energy by connecting science language and concepts to energy. By using this way the pupils develop concepts comprehension on different levels. The textbooks are also built differently, so they insure the lowest level of concepts comprehension by using repetition

Vivid Visualization in the Experience of Phobia in Virtual Environments: Preliminary Results

We explored the effect of being able to form vivid mental images on the experience of phobia during exposure treatment in virtual environments. Taking subjects with acrophobia, we randomized them to two treatment groups: in vivo exposure treatment in a real building versus virtual exposure in a model of the same building, projected in a CAVE™ Virtual Environment. Using Marks' Vividness of Visual Imagery Questionnaire (VVIQ-2) as a measure of vividness of visual imagery, we performed Pearson correlations of vividness with amount of fear experienced as measured by Pekala's Phenomenology of Consciousness Inventory (PCI). Contrary to expectation, we found a negative correlation between vividness of visualization and amount of fear experienced during exposure (R =- 0.77728, p = 0.0137). There was a positive correlation between fear and vividness of visualization during the exposure experience as measured by the PCI (R = 0.94083, p = 0.0171). These results are discussed in terms of possible differences between the VVIQ and PCI vividness measures as well as possible effects from the subject's experience.Peer Reviewedhttp://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/2027.42/63186/1/10949310050078742.pd

This is an Accepted Manuscript of an article published by Taylor & Francis in Nordic Psychology on 19 Feb 2020, available at http://wwww.tandfonline. com/https://doi.org/10.1080/19012276.2020.1727359.The purpose of this study was to evaluate the internal consistency, factor structure, and validity of the Leiden Index of Depression Sensitivity-Revised (LEIDS-R) and a recent revision of the LEIDS-R (LEIDS-RR) in Norway. The LEIDS-R is a self-report inventory measuring cognitive reactivity. Cognitive reactivity is defined as the relative ease with which negative thinking is activated by mild low mood and has been shown to be a strong predictor of relapse of depression. Hospital employees and psychology students (N = 240) completed the LEIDS-R and measures of depression, repetitive negative thinking, and mindfulness. The results showed that Cronbach’s alpha was equally high for both the LEIDS-R and LEIDS-RR total score (α = .92), indicating good internal consistency. Confirmatory factor analysis of the LEIDS-R suggested an acceptable model fit for the original first-order six-factor model. Confirmatory factor analyses of the LEIDS-RR suggested the best fit for a bifactor five-factor model. Correlational analyses showed positive associations of the LEIDS-R and LEIDS-RR scales with depression and repetitive negative thinking and negative relationships with mindfulness. It is concluded that the Norwegian versions of the LEIDS-R and LEIDS-RR appear to be both reliable and valid for future use

Bidirectional Relationship Between Family Accommodation and Youth Anxiety During Cognitive-Behavioral Treatment

    Get PDF
Family accommodation is associated with an increase in anxiety and has recently received attention as a target for intervention for youth anxiety. Existing theories posit that the increase in family accommodation increases youth anxiety and can attenuate the effect of psychotherapy. However, the directionality between family accommodation and youth anxiety has not been investigated. A cross-lagged cross-panel design was used to assess accommodation and anxiety for 10 sessions for 73 youths with an anxiety disorder, who were receiving cognitive-behavioral therapy. The analysis revealed a bidirectional relationship, such that to some extent previous session family accommodation increased youth anxiety symptoms (β = 0.11, 95% CI [0.06, 0.17]), but to an even greater extent previous session youth-rated anxiety symptoms increased family accommodation (β = 0.23, 95% CI [0.08, 0.38]). Family accommodation is an important target for reducing youth anxiety but should be addressed simultaneously as interventions directly targeting youth anxiety.publishedVersio

Background This study sought to investigate the effectiveness of group treatment for trichotillomania (TTM) in ordinary clinical settings. Treatment consisted of a combination of habit reversal training (HRT) and acceptance and commitment treatment (ACT). Both short- and long-term effects were explored, as well as individual change trajectories. Methods The sample consist of fifty-three patients with TTM. Treatment outcomes were evaluated at post-treatment and at one-year follow-up using self-report questionnaires (Massachusetts General Hospital Hair Pulling Scale, MGH-HS), structured clinical interviews (National Institute of Mental Health Trichotillomania Severity Scale, NIMH-TSS), and the Clinical Global Impression scale for TTM (CGI-TTM). Results Analyses by mixed models for repeated measurements yielded a statistically significant effect of time (p Conclusions ACT-enhanced behavior therapy in a group format seems efficient for reducing symptoms of trichotillomania

The relationship between obsessive-compulsive disorder and religious faith: Clinical characteristics and implications for treatment

This paper explores the relationship between religion and obsessive–compulsive dis- order (OCD), with particular interest in religion’s possible influence in the development of OCD and its impact on treatment outcome. The paper begins with a review of theoretical and research literatures concerning religious involvement, research evidence linking religious involvement and physical and mental health, and theoretical linkages supporting both positive and negative religious effects on health. Following this, we provide a general overview and description of OCD and information concerning the prevalence and incidence of religiously based OCD. Next, extant research linking religion and OCD is presented. Information relevant to the clinical treatment of OCD with religious content is discussed. Finally, practice implications for clinicians and clergy are provided.Peer Reviewedhttp://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/2027.42/107413/1/2011-11166-001.pdfDescription of 2011-11166-001.pdf : Main articl
