The Vienna history Wiki: a collaborative knowledge platform for the city of Vienna
The Vienna City Archive and the Vienna City Library have joined forces with several other institutions in Vienna, Austria to create the "Wien Geschichte Wiki" (Vienna History Wiki), a knowledge platform for the history of Vienna with more than 34,000 articles and 120,000 visits per month. The wiki is powered by Semantic MediaWiki and serves not only as an online encyclopedia, based on a digitized printed publication for everybody to use and contribute to, but also as a central knowledge base for several administrative departments of the city administration. In a peer-review process, wiki edits are checked before they become visible. The paper highlights the unique aspects of the Vienna History Wiki related to content creation, governance structures and technology choices. A usage log analysis and an online survey have been carried out to gain first insights after six months of operation
Extension of SPIS to simulate dust electrostatic charging, transport and contamination of lunar probes
A modification of the Spacecraft Plasma Interaction Software has been undertaken under ESA contract 4000107327/12/NL/AK (SPIS-DUST). The primary goal is to provide mission designers with an engineering tool capable of predicting charged dust behavior in a given plasma environment involving a spacecraft / exploration unit in contact with complex topological features at various locations of the Moon’s surface. The tool also aims at facilitating dust contamination diagnostics for sensitive surfaces such as sensors optics, solar panels, thermal interfaces, etc. In this paper, the new user interface and the new numerical solvers developed in the frame of this project is presented. The pre-processing includes the building of a 3D lunar surface from a topology description (i.e. a point list), an interface to position the spacecraft and a merging interface for the spacecraft elements in contact with the lunar surface. Concerning the physical models, the new solvers have been developed in order to model the physics of the ejection of the dust from the soils, the dusts charging and transport in volume and the dust interaction and contamination of the spacecraft. The post-processing includes the standard outputs of SPIS for the electrostatic computation and the plasma plus dedicated instruments for the diagnosis of the dusts. A set of verification test cases are presented in order to demonstrate the new capabilities of this version of SPIS in realistic conditions
Properties of Saturn Kilometric Radiation measured within its source region
On 17 October 2008, the Cassini spacecraft crossed the southern sources of
Saturn kilometric radiation (SKR), while flying along high-latitude nightside
magnetic field lines. In situ measurements allowed us to characterize for the
first time the source region of an extra-terrestrial auroral radio emission.
Using radio, magnetic field and particle observations, we show that SKR sources
are surrounded by a hot tenuous plasma, in a region of upward field-aligned
currents. Magnetic field lines supporting radio sources map a continuous,
high-latitude and spiral-shaped auroral oval observed on the dawnside,
consistent with enhanced auroral activity. Investigating the Cyclotron Maser
Instability (CMI) as a mechanism responsible for SKR generation, we find that
observed cutoff frequencies are consistent with radio waves amplified
perpendicular to the magnetic field by hot (6 to 9 keV) resonant electrons,
measured locally
Searches at HERA for Squarks in R-Parity Violating Supersymmetry
A search for squarks in R-parity violating supersymmetry is performed in e^+p
collisions at HERA at a centre of mass energy of 300 GeV, using H1 data
corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 37 pb^(-1). The direct production
of single squarks of any generation in positron-quark fusion via a Yukawa
coupling lambda' is considered, taking into account R-parity violating and
conserving decays of the squarks. No significant deviation from the Standard
Model expectation is found. The results are interpreted in terms of constraints
within the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM), the constrained MSSM
and the minimal Supergravity model, and their sensitivity to the model
parameters is studied in detail. For a Yukawa coupling of electromagnetic
strength, squark masses below 260 GeV are excluded at 95% confidence level in a
large part of the parameter space. For a 100 times smaller coupling strength
masses up to 182 GeV are excluded.Comment: 32 pages, 14 figures, 3 table

Protocol of a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, parallel-group, multicentre study of the efficacy and safety of nicotinamide in patients with Friedreich ataxia (NICOFA)
Introduction: Currently, no treatment that delays with the progression of Friedreich ataxia is available. In the
majority of patients Friedreich ataxia is caused by homozygous pathological expansion of GAA repeats in the first
intron of the FXN gene. Nicotinamide acts as a histone deacetylase inhibitor. Dose escalation studies have shown,
that short term treatment with dosages of up to 4 g/day increase the expression of FXN mRNA and frataxin protein
up to the levels of asymptomatic heterozygous gene carriers. The long-term effects and the effects on clinical
endpoints, activities of daily living and quality of life are unknown.
Methods: The aim of the NICOFA study is to investigate the efficacy and safety of nicotinamide for the treatment of
Friedreich ataxia over 24 months. An open-label dose adjustment wash-in period with nicotinamide (phase A: weeks 1–4)
to the individually highest tolerated dose of 2–4 g nicotinamide/day will be followed by a 2 (nicotinamide group): 1
(placebo group) randomization (phase B: weeks 5–104). In the nicotinamide group, patients will continue with their
individually highest tolerated dose between 2 and 4 g/d per os once daily and the placebo group patients will be
receiving matching placebo. Safety assessments will consist of monitoring and recording of all adverse events and serious
adverse events, regular monitoring of haematology, blood chemistry and urine values, regular measurement of vital signs
and the performance of physical examinations including cardiological signs. The primary outcome is the change in the
Scale for the Assessment and Rating of Ataxia (SARA) over time as compared with placebo in patients with Friedreich
ataxia based on the linear mixed effect model (LMEM) model. Secondary endpoints are measures of quality of life,
functional motor and cognitive measures, clinician’s and patient’s global impression-change scales as well as the upregulation of the frataxin protein level, safety and survival/death.
Perspective: The NICOFA study represents one of the first attempts to assess the clinical efficacy of an epigenetic
therapeutic intervention for this disease and will provide evidence of possible disease modifying effects of nicotinamide
treatment in patients with Friedreich ataxia
The open innovation research landscape: established perspectives and emerging themes across different levels of analysis
This paper provides an overview of the main perspectives and themes emerging in research on open innovation (OI). The paper is the result of a collaborative process among several OI scholars – having a common basis in the recurrent Professional Development Workshop on ‘Researching Open Innovation’ at the Annual Meeting of the Academy of Management. In this paper, we present opportunities for future research on OI, organised at different levels of analysis. We discuss some of the contingencies at these different levels, and argue that future research needs to study OI – originally an organisational-level phenomenon – across multiple levels of analysis. While our integrative framework allows comparing, contrasting and integrating various perspectives at different levels of analysis, further theorising will be needed to advance OI research. On this basis, we propose some new research categories as well as questions for future research – particularly those that span across research domains that have so far developed in isolation
Forward pi^0 Production and Associated Transverse Energy Flow in Deep-Inelastic Scattering at HERA
Deep-inelastic positron-proton interactions at low values of Bjorken-x down
to x \approx 4.10^-5 which give rise to high transverse momentum pi^0 mesons
are studied with the H1 experiment at HERA. The inclusive cross section for
pi^0 mesons produced at small angles with respect to the proton remnant (the
forward region) is presented as a function of the transverse momentum and
energy of the pi^0 and of the four-momentum transfer Q^2 and Bjorken-x.
Measurements are also presented of the transverse energy flow in events
containing a forward pi^0 meson. Hadronic final state calculations based on QCD
models implementing different parton evolution schemes are confronted with the

High salt reduces the activation of IL-4- and IL-13-stimulated macrophages
A high intake of dietary salt (NaCl) has been implicated in the development of hypertension, chronic inflammation, and autoimmune diseases. We have recently shown that salt has a proinflammatory effect and boosts the activation of Th17 cells and the activation of classical, LPS-induced macrophages (M1). Here, we examined how the activation of alternative (M2) macrophages is affected by salt. In stark contrast to Th17 cells and M1 macrophages, high salt blunted the alternative activation of BM-derived mouse macrophages stimulated with IL-4 and IL-13, M(IL-4+IL-13) macrophages. Salt-induced reduction of M(IL-4+IL-13) activation was not associated with increased polarization toward a proinflammatory M1 phenotype. In vitro, high salt decreased the ability of M(IL-4+IL-13) macrophages to suppress effector T cell proliferation. Moreover, mice fed a high salt diet exhibited reduced M2 activation following chitin injection and delayed wound healing compared with control animals. We further identified a high salt-induced reduction in glycolysis and mitochondrial metabolic output, coupled with blunted AKT and mTOR signaling, which indicates a mechanism by which NaCl inhibits full M2 macrophage activation. Collectively, this study provides evidence that high salt reduces noninflammatory innate immune cell activation and may thus lead to an overall imbalance in immune homeostasis
