A total of 83 Boer crossbred does weight between 14 - 44 kg were randomly selected and allocated into 2 groups. The first group of does (34) were divided into two subgroups: Group A (n = 21 does) and Group B (n = 13 does). All does in Group A (GA) were synchronized using CIDR containing 0.3 g progesterone for 17 days and injection of 50 Ī¼g PGF2Ī± and 250 IU of eCG at CIDR removal. Does in Group B (GB) were synchronized using CIDR containing 0.3 g progesterone for 17 days and injection of 50 Ī¼g PGF2Ī± without eCG at CIDR removal. All does in GA and GB were naturally mated using two bucks. Oestrus response, time and number of mating were recorded at 24-72h after CIDR removal. The does were observed twice daily at 7 am and 5 pm for two hours for three days. In the second group, 49 does were allocated into three subgroups G1 (n=20), G2 (n=14) and G3 (n= 15). All does were synchronized using CIDR for 17 days. At CIDR removal all does were injected intramuscularly with 50 Ī¼g PGF2Ī± and different doses of 100, 200 and 250 IU of eCG for G1, G2 and G3 respectively. At 48-56 h after CIDR removal all does were inseminated with 0.25 ml frozen semen contains 25 Ɨ106 sperm/straw by different artificial insemination techniques using the transcervical (TC), intracervical (IC), intravagina (IV), or intrauterine (IU). Result of the study showed that oestrus responses were 100 % and 53.85 % for GA (CIDR with eCG) and GB (CIDR without eCG) respectively. There were significant difference (p<0.05) in oestrus responses between the two groups. Shortest oestrus responses were observed in GA, followed by GB. Conception rates for the groups GA and GB were 24% (5/21) and 38.5% (5/13) respectively. There were significant difference (p<0.05) in the conception rates of GA and GB. Conception rates using four AI techniques were 0% for G1 and G2. In G3 the conception rate were 40%, 25%, 0% and 0% following TC, IC, IV and IU AI techniques respectively. There were significant difference (p<0.05) in the conception rate among the three groups with different concentration of eCG, there were no significant difference in the conception rate among the different methods of AI used in all groups. For group G3 the conception rates by artificial insemination technique using TC is better than the IC, IV and IU techniques. This study suggested that the synchronization protocol of CIDR with eCG for 17 days were found better than CIDR without eCG. TC technique is preferred than IU using frozen semen in crossbred Boer does that were synchronized using CIDR for 17 days and injected with 250 IU of eCG and 50 Ī¼g PGF2Ī± at CIDR removal

Fluid Cultures and Identifications: The Intercultural Communication Experiences of Saudi International Students in the UK

This thesis is an investigation into the intercultural communication experiences of Saudi international students in the UK. It focuses on the friendship experiences that Saudi international students form with home and international students in order to engage in intercultural interactions. It further investigates how Saudi international students experience interactions with individuals from the opposite gender with whom they have limited interactions with in Saudi Arabia. Furthermore, the study focuses on the incidents that may motivate or demotivate Saudi international students from engaging in intercultural communication. Finally, this thesis considers the changes that the participants had introduced to their worldviews, identifications and practices as a result of their overall intercultural experiences in the UK. The findings show that 1) the participantsā€™ identifications of in-group and out-group members were inconsistent and the boundaries between both categories were difficult to identify. 2) In contrast to studies, which suggest that Saudi international students are homogeneous Muslims who come from a collectivistic culture, the findings show that the participants had different worldviews and identifications and cannot be categorized in a fixed category. 3) The findings also illustrate that despite the segregation between men and women in Saudi Arabia, Saudi international students do not necessarily find interaction with individuals from the opposite gender challenging, as some literature claims. 4) The experiences that demotivated the participants from engaging in intercultural communication are not necessarily negative ones, since universities religious organisations, such as the Islamic Society, which was perceived positively by the participants, may also contribute to demotivating their attendees from experiencing intercultural communication. 5) The overall intercultural experiences in the UK had influenced the participantsā€™ worldviews, identifications and practices on various levels. Thus, some participants introduced significant changes to their worldviews and identifications, others accepted changes that do not contradict with their understandings of religion, while others resisted any changes. Overall, the study argues for moving beyond essentialist descriptions for Saudi international students that describe them as a homogeneous Muslim group, coming from a collectivistic culture in a country where men are dominant over women. The study gives valuable insights and practical implications for UK universities and Saudi Cultural Bureaux abroad where Saudi international students form a noticeable number amongst other international students

The Relationship Between Oil Price and Airline Stock Price

    Get PDF
This study aims to examine the relationship between oil prices and airline stock prices. with the increase of threats of oil price fluctuations and rising energy price for airline companies, it is important to important to consider oil as a pricing factor in asset pricing models. Furthermore the study contributes to literature by demonstrating how the relationship between oil price and stock price vary among companies depending on their characteristics. Two multiple regression models are executed to investigate the nature of the relationship between oil price and airline stock price. The models consider crud oil denominated by daily OPEC basket prices, and the data for 40 airline companies from 27 countries. The findings suggest that there is a significant negative relationship between airline stock prices and both oil price and exchange rate. The findings also suggest that there is a significant positive relationship between firm size and profitability and the effect of oil prices, as well as there is a significant negative relationship between operating leverage and liquidity and the effect of oil price. Conversely, there is a negative relationship between financial leverage and the effect of oil price but not significant and as for the operating efficiency the finding show a positive relationship but not significant too

A machine learning approach towards detecting dementia based on its modifiable risk factors

    Get PDF
Dementia is considered one of the greatest global health and social care challenges in the 21st century. Fortunately, dementia can be delayed or possibly prevented by changes in lifestyle as dictated through known modifiable risk factors. These risk factors include low education, hypertension, obesity, hearing loss, depression, diabetes, physical inactivity, smoking, and social isolation. Other risk factors are non- modifiable and include aging and genetics. The main goal of this study is to demonstrate how machine learning methods can help predict dementia based on an individualā€™s modifiable risk factors profile. We use publicly available datasets for training algorithms to predict participantā€™ s cognitive state diagnosis, as cognitive normal or mild cognitive impairment or dementia. Several approaches were implemented using data from the Alzheimerā€™s Disease Neuroimaging Initiative (ADNI) longitudinal study. The best classification results were obtained using both the Lancet and the Libra risk factor lists via longitudinal datasets, which outperformed cross-sectional baseline datasets. Moreover, using only data of the most recent visits provided even better results than using the complete longitudinal set. A binary classification (dementia vs non- dementia) yielded approximately 92% accuracy, while the full multi-class prediction performance yielded to a 77% accuracy using logistic regression, followed by random forest with 92% and 70% respectively. The results demonstrate the utility of machine learning in the prediction of cognitive impairment based on modifiable risk factors and may encourage interventions to reduce the prevalence or severity of the condition in large populations

The rapid transmission of SARS-CoV-2 through the world has induced the scientist to understand the histopathology of the virus and then to find an effective drug. However, many of the point associated with the virus pathogenicity still unknown and need more studies. In this chapter the pathophysiology, histopathology and therapeutic of SARS-CoV-2 has been reviewed. It was appeared that pathogenicity of SARS-CoV-2 is belonging to the viral with genome structure which acting by blocking the host innate immune response. Both chloroquine and hydroxyl-chloroquine have similar structure and mechanism action and they are among the most effective antiviral for treating the patents with the SARS-CoV-2. Chloroquine works by inhibition the intracellular organism by increasing the pH

The Deep Meaning of Symbolism Significance in Men in the Sun

    Get PDF
The novel of MEN IN THE SUN by Ghassan Kanafani reflects the Palestinian cause, the 1948 catastrophe and its impact on the Palestinian people through Palestinian men of different generations who tell their story in a wonderful symbolic way. The novelist reflected the issue through the characters, as each character in the novel symbolizes a certain personality of his people. The story is the story of three men who decide to emigrate from Palestine to Kuwait illegally for their desire to improve their living conditions. The novel ends with the death of the three men suffocating for fear of beating the walls of the tank. This study is an attempt to examine the symbolism in Men in the Sun and its significance and the deep meaning behind the literal meaning of these symbols. The study tries to examine the basic symbol of the story "the walls of the tank are not pounded", as these three men die suffocating in the tank, without any of them daring to knock the walls of the tank for help. The symbolism of the non-knocking of the walls indicates the legitimate cry of the Palestinian people conflict, who have suffered from displacement. Other symbols in the novel are also analyzed to show how the writer used them for artisticĀ  and political purposes

    MP-SeizNet: A Multi-Path CNN Bi-LSTM Network for Seizure-Type Classification Using EEG

Seizure type identification is essential for the treatment and management of epileptic patients. However, it is a difficult process known to be time consuming and labor intensive. Automated diagnosis systems, with the advancement of machine learning algorithms, have the potential to accelerate the classification process, alert patients, and support physicians in making quick and accurate decisions. In this paper, we present a novel multi-path seizure-type classification deep learning network (MP-SeizNet), consisting of a convolutional neural network (CNN) and a bidirectional long short-term memory neural network (Bi-LSTM) with an attention mechanism. The objective of this study was to classify specific types of seizures, including complex partial, simple partial, absence, tonic, and tonic-clonic seizures, using only electroencephalogram (EEG) data. The EEG data is fed to our proposed model in two different representations. The CNN was fed with wavelet-based features extracted from the EEG signals, while the Bi-LSTM was fed with raw EEG signals to let our MP-SeizNet jointly learns from different representations of seizure data for more accurate information learning. The proposed MP-SeizNet was evaluated using the largest available EEG epilepsy database, the Temple University Hospital EEG Seizure Corpus, TUSZ v1.5.2. We evaluated our proposed model across different patient data using three-fold cross-validation and across seizure data using five-fold cross-validation, achieving F1 scores of 87.6% and 98.1%, respectively

Protest against Military Regime in Wole Soyinkaā€™s King Baabu

    Get PDF
This paper identifies some issues related to military regime in Nigeria and Wole Soyinkaā€™s protest against them, as dramatized in King Baabu (2001). Soyinka evokes his people to revolt against the antidemocratic tendencies and the manipulation of army leaders who attempt to control and contain the public through various means in order to remain in power. The paper discusses Soyinkaā€™s revolt and protest against the authoritative power which have become explicit, direct, and continuous as the only means to bring about a positive change and to curb the corruption of the military dictatorship or to make this phenomenon controllable. Protest has assisted Nigeria to turn to democracy after the death of Sani Abacha (b. 1943) in 1998, mainly because of the opposition activists and the protesting voices. Soyinka has emphasized that the end of a tyrant like King Baabu is miserable and disgusting, which is contrasted to the strength of the rebels, a message that Soyinka wants his audience to understand in order to establish civilian rule and democracy. The paper concludes on Soyinkaā€™s note of victory of the protesters against their tyrant, a revolutionary spirit to call people to bring back what belongs to them and drive away what threatens their peace
