Effects of Strong Magnetic Fields in Strange Baryonic Matter
We investigate the effects of very strong magnetic fields upon the equation
of state of dense bayonic matter in which hyperons are present. In the presence
of a magnetic field, the equation of state above nuclear density is
significantly affected both by Landau quantization and magnetic moment
interactions, but only for field strengths G. The former
tends to soften the EOS and increase proton and lepton abundances, while the
latter produces an overall stiffening of the EOS. Each results in a supression
of hyperons relative to the field-free case. The structure of a neutron star
is, however, primarily determined by the magnetic field stress. We utilize
existing general relativistic magneto-hydrostatic calculations to demonstrate
that maximum average fields within a stable neutron are limited to values G. This is not large enough to significantly influence
particle compositions or the matter pressure, unless fluctuations dominate the
average field strengths in the interior or configurations with significantly

Developing a core outcome set for fistulising perianal Crohn's disease
OBJECTIVE: Lack of standardised outcomes hampers effective analysis and comparison of data when comparing treatments in fistulising perianal Crohn's disease (pCD). Development of a standardised set of outcomes would resolve these issues. This study provides the definitive core outcome set (COS) for fistulising pCD. DESIGN: Candidate outcomes were generated through a systematic review and patient interviews. Consensus was established via a three-round Delphi process using a 9-point Likert scale based on how important they felt it was in determining treatment success culminating in a final consensus meeting. Stakeholders were recruited nationally and grouped into three panels (surgeons and radiologists, gastroenterologists and IBD specialist nurses, and patients). Participants received feedback fromtheir panel(in the second round) andall participants(in the third round) to allow refinement of their scores. RESULTS: A total of 295 outcomes were identified from systematic reviews and interviews that were categorised into 92 domains. 187 stakeholders (response rate 78.5%) prioritised 49 outcomes through a three-round Delphi study.The final consensus meeting of 41 experts and patients generated agreement on an eight domain COS. The COS comprised three patient-reported outcome domains (quality of life, incontinence and a combined score of patient priorities) and five clinician-reported outcome domains (perianal disease activity, development of new perianal abscess/sepsis, new/recurrent fistula, unplanned surgery and faecal diversion). CONCLUSION: A fistulising pCD COS has been produced by all key stakeholders. Application of the COS will reduce heterogeneity in outcome reporting, thereby facilitating more meaningful comparisons between treatments, data synthesis and ultimately benefit patient care
Experimental assessment for instantaneous temperature and heat flux measurements under Diesel motored engine conditions
The main goal of this work is to validate an innovative experimental facility and to establish a methodology to evaluate the influence of some of the engine parameters on local engine heat transfer behaviour under motored steady-state conditions. Instantaneous temperature measurements have been performed in order to estimate heat fluxes on a modified Diesel single cylinder combustion chamber. This study was divided into two main parts. The first one was the design and setting on of an experimental bench to reproduce Diesel conditions and perform local-instantaneous temperature measurements along the walls of the combustion chamber by means of fast response thermocouples. The second one was the development of a procedure for temperature signal treatment and local heat flux calculation based on one-dimensional Fourier analysis. A thermodynamic diagnosis model has been employed to characterise the modified engine with the new designed chamber. As a result of the measured data coherent findings have been obtained in order to understand local behaviour of heat transfer in an internal combustion engine, and the influence of engine parameters on local instantaneous temperature and heat flux, have been analysed. © 2011 Elsevier Ltd.
