Plausible families of compact objects with a Non Local Equation of State
We investigate the plausibility of some models emerging from an algorithm
devised to generate a one-parameter family of interior solutions for the
Einstein equations. It is explored how their physical variables change as the
family-parameter varies. The models studied correspond to anisotropic spherical
matter configurations having a non local equation of state. This particular
type of equation of state with no causality problems provides, at a given
point, the radial pressure not only as a function of the density but as a
functional of the enclosed matter distribution. We have found that there are
several model-independent tendencies as the parameter increases: the equation
of state tends to be stiffer and the total mass becomes half of its external
radius. Profiting from the concept of cracking of materials in General
Relativity, we obtain that those models become more stable as the family
parameter increases
Fluctuations and correlations in hexagonal optical patterns
We analyze the influence of noise in transverse hexagonal patterns in
nonlinear Kerr cavities. The near field fluctuations are determined by the
neutrally stable Goldstone modes associated to translational invariance and by
the weakly damped soft modes. However these modes do not contribute to the far
field intensity fluctuations which are dominated by damped perturbations with
the same wave vectors than the pattern. We find strong correlations between the
intensity fluctuations of any arbitrary pair of wave vectors of the pattern.
Correlation between pairs forming 120 degrees is larger than between pairs
forming 180 degrees, contrary to what a naive interpretation of emission in
terms of twin photons would suggest.Comment: 10 pages, 13 figure

Dynamic Evaluation of Production Policies: Improving the Coordination of an Ethanol Supply Chain
AbstractThis paper uses System Dynamics modeling and process simulation to explore coordination in two logistic processes (procurement and production) of the supply chain of an ethanol plant. In that sense, three production scenarios are evaluated to identify: a) stock movement according to current inventory policies, and b) the critical variables affecting the coordination for these two processes. Since the main goal in the company is to meet customer demand, this research incorporates sales forecasting, and four performance indicators to evaluate the state of the processes: 1) average percentage of demand satisfaction, 2) maximum amount of ethanol in excess, 3) available ethanol at the end of the year, and 4) inventory costs. To model the case study, the change in production yield and specific constraints for the chain are considered. The simulation results show that System Dynamics modeling can be used to observe the effects of policies on inventory, and meeting the demand in a real system. It also can define the coordination for a supply chain and give information to improve it. The developed model uses STELLA® software to simulate the logistic processes and execute the evaluation employing the performance indicators
Nonlocal Equation of State in Anisotropic Static Fluid Spheres in General Relativity
We show that it is possible to obtain credible static anisotropic spherically
symmetric matter configurations starting from known density profiles and
satisfying a nonlocal equation of state. These particular types of equation of
state describe, at a given point, the components of the corresponding
energy-momentum tensor not only as a function at that point, but as a
functional throughout the enclosed configuration. To establish the physical
plausibility of the proposed family of solutions satisfying nonlocal equation
of state, we study the constraints imposed by the junction and energy
conditions on these bounded matter distributions.
We also show that it is possible to obtain physically plausible static
anisotropic spherically symmetric matter configurations, having nonlocal
equations of state\textit{,}concerning the particular cases where the radial
pressure vanishes and, other where the tangential pressures vanishes. The later
very particular type of relativistic sphere with vanishing tangential stresses
is inspired by some of the models proposed to describe extremely magnetized
neutron stars (magnetars) during the transverse quantum collapse.Comment: 21 pages, 1 figure, minor changes in the text, references added, two

Frontal sinus mucocele with intracranial and intraorbital extension
ABSTRACT Introduction: Frontal sinus mucoceles can present with a multitude of different symptoms including ophthalmic disturbances. Even benign, they have a tendency to expand by eroding the surrounding bony walls that displaces and destroys structures by pressure and bony resorption. Case report: A 32-year-old man with diplopia, proptosis of the right eye and headache was presented. The diagnosis was frontal sinus mucocele with intracranial and intraorbital extension. Possible clinical manifestations of mucoceles, diagnostic imaging techniques and treatment used are discussed. Conclusion: Frontal mucoceles are benign and curable, early recognition and management of them is of paramount importance, because they can cause local, orbital or intracranial complications
