Circular Wilson loops in defect conformal field theory
We study a D3-D5 system dual to a conformal field theory with a codimension-one defect that separates regions where the ranks of the gauge groups differ by k. With the help of this additional parameter, as observed by Nagasaki, Tanida and Yamaguchi, one can define a double scaling limit in which the quantum corrections are organized in powers of λ/k2, which should allow to extrapolate results between weak and strong coupling regimes. In particular we consider a radius R circular Wilson loop placed at a distance L, whose internal space orientation is given by an angle χ. We compute its vacuum expectation value and show that, in the double scaling limit and for small χ and small L/R, weak coupling results can be extrapolated to the strong coupling limit.
The importance of the hydrocarbon sector for Colombia is very high; Due to its development and positioning, it has generated additional resources to the departmental public finances through royalties and resources for the fiscal operation of the Nation. However, due to the exploitation of hydrocarbons, social conflicts have been generated in these territories, among others due to non-compliance with commitments made with the communities by the operators. Likewise, traditional economic activities such as cattle ranching and rice cultivation moved to secondary places, which meant very rapid changes in economic, social and infrastructure patterns, increased prices of consumer goods and real estate and employment expectations, among others.
The presence of capital industries and the current energy mining model generate structural impacts on society and in the areas where these resources are extracted, the effects have been evidenced in academic, economic and social studies. The main purpose of this work is to identify the causes of these social and structural impacts of society from an analysis of the institutional framework that has developed around the extractive industries in the hydrocarbon sector
AbstractIn wood machining, the chip formation process consequently brings a change in cutting forces, as well in the specific cutting energy, i.e., finally on the cutting power. Being in practice difficult the measure of cutting forces or the specific energy at the production line, monitoring the electrical output of the power unit is a reality. The aim of this research is to evaluate the change of the mean chip thickness over cutting power and the resulting surface roughness, estimating the specific cutting work on planing process for blackwood and redwood samples. The findings lead to conclude a good correlation between cutting power and chip thickness, requiring the cutting process more power when more feed speed is applied. For the surface roughness, the results presented changes with the chip thickness, and a better surface quality was found with the dense blackwood lumber
Semiclassical partition function for strings dual to Wilson loops with small cusps in ABJM
We compute the 1-loop partition function for strings in AdS4 Ă— â„‚â„™3, whose worldsheets end along a line with small cusp angles in the boundary of AdS. We obtain these 1-loop results in terms of the vacuum energy for on-shell modes. Our results verify the proposal by Lewkowycz and Maldacena in arXiv:1312.5682 for the exact Bremsstrahlung function up to the next to leading order in the strong coupling expansion. The agreement is observed for cusps distorting either the 1/2 BPS or the 1/6 BPS Wilson line.

Strings in bubbling geometries and dual Wilson loop correlators
We consider a fundamental string in a bubbling geometry of arbitrary genus dual to a half-supersymmetric Wilson loop in a general large representation R of the SU(N) gauge group in N= 4 Supersymmetric Yang-Mills. We demonstrate, under some mild conditions, that the minimum value of the string classical action for a bubbling geometry of arbitrary genus precisely matches the correlator of a Wilson loop in the fundamental representation and one in a general large representation. We work out the case in which the large representation is given by a rectangular Young tableau, corresponding to a genus one bubbling geometry, explicitly. We also present explicit results in the field theory for a correlator of two Wilson loops: a large one in an arbitrary representation and a “small” one in the fundamental, totally symmetric or totally antisymmetric representation.Instituto de FĂsica La Plat
