Doing activism like a state: Progressive municipal government, Israel/Palestine and BDS

    Get PDF
Activism is typically placed in opposition to state practice. Yet, state bodies often participate in campaigns and movements for change, drawing on different powers and capacities, including the ability to withhold goods, land and contracts. This article explores subnational state activism – what it means and the activist framework it offers – through a study of UK local government’s episodic participation in the pro-Palestinian movement for divestment and boycott of Israel. Municipal participation in this movement demonstrates certain tensions and challenges for subnational state activism, in conditions of conflict, where critics denounce local government for over-reaching and acting improperly. This article focuses on two key aspects: the relationship of municipal activism to de-subordination and the troubling of state hierarchy; and the place of responsibility, care and democratic embeddedness within municipal state practice. Together, these strands contribute to wider debates about progressive statehood and paradigms of institutional activism

Ethnomathematics study of Pandanwangi village: Schools mathematics instruction in rice farmer activities Pandanwangi

    Get PDF
This study aims to explore the hidden mathematical concepts behind the rice farming activities of Pandanwangi Cianjur. The research method is qualitative research with an ethnographic approach. The research location is in Pandanwangi Cultural Village, Bunikasih Village, Warungkondang District, Cianjur Regency, West Java. Pandanwangi Cultural Village was deliberately built by the Cianjur Regency Government to further introduce pandanwangi rice, which is the superior local variety of Cianjur Regency. Pandawangi rice farmers' cultural activities contain mathematical concepts that arise when determining seed class, number of seeds, nursery preparation, final seed selection with salt solution, seeding in nurseries, nursery maintenance, preparation of planting land, planting, fertilization in planting areas, planting maintenance, harvest, and post-harvest. The findings of this study show that there are mathematical concepts in agricultural activities on geometric content, including determining points, lines, angles, the area of flat shapes, the similarity of flat shapes, and algebra, including comparisons, percentages, and social arithmetic. The results of the research can be used as a teaching module to facilitate learning for students in the school curriculum

Changes in intellectual capital as well as knowledge management occur as a result of technological and information developments. These changes then affect human resource management in various ways. This research looked at how intellectual capital and knowledge management can influence the development of human resource management. This research will be carried out using a qualitative approach. The data used in this study is secondary data derived from various research results and previous studies. The results of this study then found that human resource management is very important in digital technology because companies need to develop according to the current era. Therefore, people who work in the shadows as people in charge of human resource management need to have strong intellectual capital and knowledge management. The existing human resource management can develop properly by having these two things

    Get PDF
This research aims to obtain a comprehensive picture of the hypothetical learning trajectory (HLT) that should be developed based on students' learning trajectory (LT) in learning fraction division arithmetic operations in grade V elementary school. The HLT was developed based on the analysis of the Learning Implementation Plan document made by the teacher by considering the students' learning trajectory on the material of fraction division arithmetic operation, including the learning carried out by the teacher in the classroom, examining aspects of learning obstacles that occur in the learning process, and examining what didactical situations will be built, predicting student responses that may occur to the situation created, and determining didactical and pedagogical anticipation of these responses. The HLT in this study started with the context of generating the idea of number division, learning the concept of number division such as natural numbers divided by natural numbers, and recalling the concept of fractions and the concept of division of fractions. The learning objective designed in the HLT is that students can solve problems with at least two ways related to division of fractions

    Get PDF
Mathematics is still seen as a non-cultural subject. Mathematics and culture are two aspects that have a strong relationship. Culture provides a natural means for students to access a framework for conceptual understanding in mathematics. One of the important cultural objects in Indonesia is the Phinisi. The phinisi is a traditional wooden ship originating from Bulukumba Regency, South Sulawesi province which is recorded as a world cultural heritage. This study explores the concept of ethnomathematics geometry on phinisi ships. The method used in this research is an exploratory-descriptive method through an ethnographic approach to explain and analyze the ethnomathematical concepts of geometry on the components of the phinisi. Research data were collected through a literature review, direct observation of the shape and process of making phinisi, and interviews with expert phinisi shipbuilders. The results showed that there are geometric ethnomathematical concepts in the form of flat shapes and spatial shapes on several phinisi components. This ethnomathematical concept is relevant to the formal mathematical concepts learned in school so it has the potential to be a source of learning mathematics
