    Get PDF
Mental Retardation (MR) is a heterogeneous disorder that consists of lower than average intellectual function along with the disruption of adaptive skills. Play therapy is an effective approach to train children with mild MR in studying the concept of learning. Play therapy is conducted in a special room designed as a playground, equipped with special toys to stimulate potential development of children with mild MR. This research aimed to improve the success of the potential development of intelligence in children with mild MR using WISC instrument through play therapy. The study design used quasi-experimental method (quasi-experiment) and qualitative analysis. The subjects of this study were thirteen 7–12 years old children with mild MR in extraordinary school Putra Bangsa Surabaya. The analysis approach used was statistical analysis with Wilcoxon and Kruskal Wallis approaches. A descriptive analysis was subsequently carried out to provide a snapshot of MR conditions that accompany the child including: internal factors, i.e. the phase experienced by the child during pregnancy, childbirth, breastfeeding and the stage of growth and development, and external factors i.e. the family's socioeconomic condition and children upbringing. The results showed that 7 out of 13 children with mild MR had experienced an increase in the potential development of intelligence. In terms of the relation between the therapy frequency and the children success rate, 5 of 7 mild MR children who were successful were in the category of frequent treatment of play therapy. In conclusion, play therapy can increase the potential for successful intelligence development of children with mild MR. This success is associated with treatment frequency and is supported by the presence of concomitant conditions (internal and external factors) in children

Previous research regarding abstraction has not discussed abstraction qualitatively based on van Hiele levels. Thus, it is necessary to study abstraction analysis based on van Hiele levels through Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach. The purpose of this research was to analyze mathematical abstraction based on van Hiele levels of geometry (VHLG) through RME and traditional learning approach reviewed from the levels of prior knowledge. This research employed a descriptive qualitative method involving Year 9 junior high school students as the subjects. The instruments were a mathematical abstraction test, van Hiele geometry test, and interview guidelines. The results of the high- and medium-ability students in the classroom using RME approach showed that VHLG was at the Deduction level and the abstraction ability was dominated by Empirical and Reflective Abstraction, whereas the low-ability students are at the level of Abstraction, they had imperfect Empirical and Reflective Abstraction. As for the high-ability students in the traditional learning classroom, the VHLG was at the level of Abstraction; their Reflective Abstraction was at the Representation level. While concerning the low- and medium-ability students, the VHLG was at the Analysis level; they mastered the Reflective Abstraction at the level of Recognition. This study indicates that the RME approach can trigger the development of mathematical abstraction, and accelerate the van Hiele levels of geometry progress

The Organizational Life-cycles : Masalah Manajerial Dalam Tahapan Decline Stage Dan Alternatif Pemecahannya

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the life cycle of organizations related to managerial problems in the decline stage of the stage and solution alternatives. Jones (2001) refer to the stages in Organizational Life Cycles includes birth, growth, decline, and death stage, so it can be said that the life cycle of an organization (the Organizational Life Cycles) is an organization stages starting from birth, grow, mature and die. Organizational life cycle was very long but can also be very short, depending on the quality of management processes, including the organizations ability to deal with external and internal turbulence, because often these external turbulence create pressures on organizational performance. But an organization sometimes was forced to come to the decline stage, which is caused by four reasons, namely organizational atrophy, vulnerability, loss of legitimacy, and the environment entrophy. If an organization until the decline stage, the necessary efforts to prevent it and in fact the organization does not have to stop operations, but claimed to be more efficient, productive, innovative, and more effective. The effort is described Weizel and Johnson (1989) through a model of organizational decline. The stages in the decline stage include: blinded stage, Inaction stage, the stage is faulty action, crisis stage, and the dissolution stage. As for alternative solutions to problems in order to survive and flourish in a globally competitive environment, organizations must take a strategy that gives them a sustainable competitive advantage. Strategies include: Strategy costs / leadership, differentiation strategy, and strategy niche market. Keyword : Organizational Life Cycles, decline stage
