Simulation of ion behavior in an open three-dimensional Paul trap using a power series method
Simulations of the dynamics of ions trapped in a Paul trap with terms in the
potential up to the order 10 have been carried out. The power series method is
used to solve numerically the equations of motion of the ions. The stability
diagram has been studied and the buffer gas cooling has been implemented by a
Monte Carlo method. The dipole excitation was also included. The method has
been applied to an existing trap and it has shown good agreement with the
experimental results and previous simulations using other methods
First detection and energy measurement of recoil ions following beta decay in a Penning trap with the WITCH experiment
The WITCH experiment (Weak Interaction Trap for CHarged particles) will
search for exotic interactions by investigating the beta-neutrino angular
correlation via the measurement of the recoil energy spectrum after beta decay.
As a first step the recoil ions from the beta-minus decay of 124In stored in a
Penning trap have been detected. The evidence for the detection of recoil ions
is shown and the properties of the ion cloud that forms the radioactive source

Continuity Culture: A Key Factor for Building Resilience and Sound Recovery Capabilities
This article investigates the extent to which Jordanian service organizations seek to establish continuity culture through testing, training, and updating of their business continuity plans. A survey strategy was adopted in this research. Primary and secondary data were used. Semistructured interviews were conducted with five senior managers from five large Jordanian service organizations registered with the Amman Stock Exchange. The selection of organizations was made on the basis of simple random sampling. Interviews targeted the headquarters only in order to obtain a homogenous sample. Three out of five organizations could be regarded as crisis prepared and have better chances for recovery. The other two organizations exhibited characteristics of standard practice that only emphasizes the recovery aspect of business continuity management (BCM), while paying less attention to establishing resilient cultures and embedding BCM. The findings reveal that the ability to recover following major incidents can be improved by embedding BCM in the culture of the organization and by making BCM an enterprise-wide process. This is one of few meticulous studies that have been undertaken in the Middle East and the first in Jordan to investigate the extent to which service organizations focus on embedding BCM in the organizational culture
The WITCH experiment: Acquiring the first recoil ion spectrum
The standard model of the electroweak interaction describes beta-decay in the
well-known V-A form. Nevertheless, the most general Hamiltonian of a beta-decay
includes also other possible interaction types, e.g. scalar (S) and tensor (T)
contributions, which are not fully ruled out yet experimentally. The WITCH
experiment aims to study a possible admixture of these exotic interaction types
in nuclear beta-decay by a precise measurement of the shape of the recoil ion
energy spectrum. The experimental set-up couples a double Penning trap system
and a retardation spectrometer. The set-up is installed in ISOLDE/CERN and was
recently shown to be fully operational. The current status of the experiment is
presented together with the data acquired during the 2006 campaign, showing the
first recoil ion energy spectrum obtained. The data taking procedure and
corresponding data acquisition system are described in more detail. Several

Transport and cooling of singly-charged noble gas ion beams
The transport and cooling of noble gas singly-charged ion beams by means of a
Radio Frequency Quadrupole Cooler Buncher (RFQCB) have been studied at the
LIMBE low energy beam line of the GANIL facility. Ions as light as
have been cooled and stored before their extraction in bunches using as
buffer gas. Bunches characteristics have been studied as a function of the
parameters of the device. Sizeable transmissions of up to 10 have been
obtained. A detailed study of the lifetime of ions inside the buncher has been
performed giving an estimate of the charge exchange cross-section. Results of a
microscopic Monte-Carlo transport code show reasonable agreement with
experimental data.Comment: 13 figure
Paul trapping of radioactive 6He+ions and direct observation of their beta-decay
We demonstrate that abundant quantities of short-lived beta unstable ions can
be trapped in a novel transparent Paul trap and that their decay products can
directly be detected in coincidence. Low energy 6He+ (807 ms half-life) ions
were extracted from the SPIRAL source at GANIL, then decelerated, cooled and
bunched by means of the buffer gas cooling technique. More than 10^8 ions have
been stored over a measuring period of six days and about 10^5 decay
coincidences between the beta particles and the 6Li^{++} recoiling ions have
been recorded. The technique can be extended to other short-lived species,
