Synthesis of porous silicates

The issues of importance and future concern in the synthesis of porous silicates and porous materials that contain a large fraction of silica, e.g. zeolites and other crystalline molecular sieves, are reviewed. The thermodynamics of zeolite synthesis are discussed, including a detailed thermodynamic analysis of the synthesis of pure-silica ZSM-5. The kinetics of porous silicate synthesis are reviewed, with particular emphasis on the control of porous structure formation through the use of organic structure-directing agents. Ordered mesoporous materials are discussed in the context of distinguishing their features from zeolites in order to describe further the unique properties of each class of material. Finally, several unresolved issues in the understanding of the synthesis process are outlined, the resolutions of which would aid in the synthesis of porous silicates by design

Interaction of Nucleosides and Related Compounds with Nucleic Acids as Indicated by the Change of Helix-Coil Transition Temperature

A series of compounds has been tested for effectiveness in lowering the melting temperature of poly A and of thymus DNA. The order of increasing activity was found to be: adonitol, methyl riboside (both negligible) < cyclohexanol < phenol, pyrimidine, uridine < cytidine, thymidine < purine, adenosine, inosine, deoxyguanosine < caffeine, coumarin, 2,6-dichloro-7-methylpurine. Urea was ineffective with poly A and only slightly effective with DNA. At a concentration of 0.3 M, purine lowered the Tm of DNA about 9°

Automatisierung im Zuge des digitalen Wandels von Benutzungsservices: das neue Lern- und Studiengebäude (LSG) und die Verbesserungen der Studien- und Lernbedingungen am Campus-Nord der Universität Göttingen

Im Zuge der Digitalisierung aller Lebensbereiche im 21. Jahrhundert, die sich auch im Bibliotheksbereich niederschlägt, gewinnt die Automatisierung von Arbeitsabläufen durch Softwareeinsatz eine ganze neue Bedeutung. Die zunehmende Vernetzung sowie webbasierte und für mobile Endgeräte optimierte Services eröffnen neue Nutzungsszenarien, die über das Vorhandene weit hinausgehen, und von Politik und Wirtschaft unter der Überschrift „Wirtschaft 4.0“ längst intensiv rezipiert werden. Am Beispiel des neuen Lern- und Studiengebäudes (LSG) und der Verbesserungen der Studien- und Lernbedingungen am Campus-Nord der Universität Göttingen wird gezeigt, wie sich die Benutzungsservices für Studierende in den letzten Jahren einschneidend verändert haben und zu einer deutlichen Verbesserung der Lern- und Studienbedingungen auf dem Göttinger Campus geführt haben. Eine zentrale Voraussetzung dabei war die frühzeitige Partizipation der zukünftigen Nutzer/innen sowie eine konsequent bedarfsorientierte Planung. As all areas of life become more and more digitized in the 21st century, which can also be seen in the library landscape, the automation of workflows by means of software gains a whole new meaning. Increased networking as well as services which are web-based and optimized for mobile devices open up new usage scenarios which go far beyond what is presently common. In the context of “Economy 4.0”, these developments have long received the close attention of both the political and the economic sector. Using the example of the new Learning and Study Building (LSG) and the redevelopment of the North Campus of the University of Göttingen, the article shows how this general trend has been translated into specific user services for students, substantially changing these services and leading to a significant improvement in the learning and study conditions on the Göttingen campus. November 2019 in Kiel, Flensburg und Lübeck stattgefunden hat, ein. Strategieprozesse zur Neuausrichtung von Universitätsbibliotheken und ihrer Organisationseinheiten im Zuge des digitalen Wandels: das Beispiel der Niedersächsischen Staats- und Universitätsbibliothek Göttingen und ihrer Benutzungsabteilung

Aufgrund erheblich veränderter Rahmenbedingungen im Zuge des digitalen Wandels ist eine konsequente Neuausrichtung von Universitätsbibliotheken und ihrer Services erforderlich. Ein geeignetes Managementinstrument ist die Durchführung eines Strategieprozesses. Die Niedersächsische Staats- und Universitätsbibliothek (SUB) Göttingen hat ihre Strategie und strategischen Ziele 2012 aktualisiert und 2014 durch die Ergebnisse einer Online-Nutzerbefragung an der Universität Göttingen zur Bedarfserhebung ergänzt. Auf die Umsetzung der Strategie und strategischen Ziele der SUB Göttingen sind mittlerweile alle relevanten Organisationsbereiche ausgerichtet: das Serviceportfolio, die Ressourcenplanung und das Projektmanagement. Die Folgen für die nachgeordneten Abteilungen und ihre Services werden anhand der Benutzungsabteilung als der größten Betriebseinheit der SUB Göttingen dargestellt. Due to significantly changing overall conditions in the wake of the digital transformation, the consistent reorientation of university libraries and their services is required. The implementation of a strategy process is well suited for management purposes. Göttingen State and University revised its strategy and strategic goals in 2012 and supplemented them with the results of an online user survey conducted at the University of Göttingen in 2014 for purposes of user needs assessment. In the meantime, all relevant areas within the library – its service portfolio, resources planning and project management - have been refocused on the implementation of the library’s strategy and strategic goals. Integrierter Geschäftsgang 2.0 : ein systematischer Überblick über Profildienste mit Bestellkomponente

Es ist Mode, aktuellen Entwicklungen eine Versionsnummer hinzuzufügen - manchmal unabhängig davon, ob sie wesentliche Erweiterungen darstellen oder nicht. Wie könnte ein erweiterter integrierter Geschäftsgang aussehen? Der klassische integrierte Geschäftsgang in Bibliotheken kam mit den Möglichkeiten elektronischer Datenverarbeitung auf. Bibliothekssoftware erlaubte die "Integration der Arbeitsprozesse Akzession und Formalerschließung und damit die organisatorische Zusammenlegung der Abteilungen Erwerbung und Katalogisierung“ zur Rationalisierung der Geschäftsabläufe. Trotz der erreichten Zeit- und Arbeitsersparnis birgt der klassische integrierte Geschäftsgang jedoch weiterhin Rationalisierungspotenzial: „For many libraries, current selection and ordering workflows are cumbersome and labor-intensive. […] In OCLC market research, libraries identified the most inefficient parts of their selection and ordering process: paper orders, standing orders, the selection process, cross-checking titles, manual transmission of orders to acquisitions, out-of-print searches, and communication between selectors and staff to get the orders into the ILS“ Bei der vorliegenden Untersuchung geht es um die Integration genau dieser umständlichen und arbeitsintensiven Arbeitsschritte in eine elektronische Umgebung. Namentlich geht es vor allem um die Integration der Sichtung von Neuerscheinungen, der Kommunikation von Kaufentscheidungen innerhalb der Bibliothek, der Generierung von Bestellungen, der Datenübernahme und ggf. weiterer Funktionen
