Bibliometric evaluation of the scientific production of the Stomatos Dental Journal

This cross-sectional study aimed to evaluate the abstracts of all articles published in the Stomatos Dental Journal between 1995 and 2009 and to obtain data on the methodological design of each article, the dental specialties focused on, and the authors’ institution of origin. A total of 206 abstracts were reviewed by two independent examiners. The results showed that the most frequent study designs were literature reviews (24.3%), cross-sectional studies (24.3%), laboratory in vitro studies (22.3%), and case reports (18.4%). The dental specialties with the highest number of articles were operative dentistry (16%), endodontics (15.5%), pediatric dentistry (10.7%), and oral and maxillofacial surgery and traumatology (10.2%). Most articles had Universidade Luterana do Brasil (ULBRA/Canoas) as the institution of origin (75.2%). Our findings revealed a pressing need to increase the number of studies with higher levels of evidence in all dental specialties and also to encourage the publication of articles from other institutions in order to qualify the journal

Facebook e recursos educacionais abertos na formação de pesquisadores em educação: percepções e reflexões

"Este artigo discute a integração do Facebook numa disciplina presencial de curso de pós-graduação que analisou o movimento dos Recursos Educacionais Abertos e foi ministrada a 14 estudantes. Para compreender a experiência, foram analisadas as postagens compartilhadas durante o semestre, os diálogos conduzidos em grupos focais presenciais e as anotações da docente. Este texto discute os usos feitos do site; as percepções dos participantes acerca da integração de atividades online e presenciais; e os desafios associados ao uso da plataforma. Proposto inicialmente como ferramenta de apoio administrativo, ao longo do semestre o site foi sendo gradualmente construído como ponto aglutinador das atividades de ensino e aprendizagem. O texto, escrito colaborativamente por um subgrupo de participantes da disciplina, sugere que, além de usos genéricos documentados na literatura pertinente, a plataforma oferece potencial para a aprendizagem experiencial sobre temáticas relevantes da Educação contemporânea, incluindo as noções de “abertura” e “colaboração”. Facebook and open educational resources on training of researchers in education: perceptions and reflections Abstract: This chapter discusses the integration of Facebook in a face-to-face module at postgraduate level that introduced the Open Educational Resources movement to a group of 14 students. To understand the experience, an analysis was carried out that used as data corpus the posts shared online, focal group conversations and notes taken by the lecturer. This text discusses the uses made of Facebook, the perceptions offered by participants regarding the integration of face-to-face and online activities and the challenges brought about by the use of the site. Initially proposed initially as an administrative tool, along the semester, the space was gradually constructed as a focal point for teaching and learning activities. This article, written collaboratively by a subgroup of participants in the module, suggests that, in addition to generic uses documented in the relevant literature, the platform shows potential for experiential learning of current themes in contemporary Education, including, in particular, “openness” and “collaboration”. “Protect Your Baby’s Smile”: Evaluation of ten years of academic extension

The importance of university extension in training student has been the subject of several studies and it is currently included in the guidelines that conduct the graduate programs in the field of Dentistry. Activities of promoting oral health aimed at the early attention focused on children of pre-school age are of great value in commitment terms of this portion of the Brazilian population for oral diseases such as caries and gingivitis. The insertion of the graduate student in the implementation of activities to these children through the extension project of “Protect your baby’s Smile” has been performed about ten years. In front of it, this study aimed to quantify the results achieved through this project, as well as a qualitative assessment of the return that it has brought to the community and for students joining this extension activity, through the analysis of questionnaires applied to the academic and the school teachers. Based on the results it can be concluded that the project has contributed in the academic formation and helped to benefit the aim population regarding the education in oral health

Publication Trends Studies Involving Disabled Persons with Dental Care Needs: A 20-Year Bibliometric Analysis

Objective: To evaluate scientific production on disabled persons with dental care needs over a 20-year period. Material and Methods: The search was conducted in the PubMed database using the MeSH terms “Disabled Persons” AND “Dentistry”. Three researchers selected articles based on readings of the title, abstract and full text. The articles were categorized according to periodical, country, study design, subject and classification of comorbidities and associated disorders. Three hundred ninety-seven articles published in 140 periodicals were included. Results: The periodicals Special Care in Dentistry (54), Dental Clinics of North America (14) and British Dental Journal (14) accounted for 21% of the publications. The studies were conducted in 50 countries, with the United States accounting for 33%. More than half (52%) of the studies had a cross-sectional design. The main subject addressed was oral diagnosis and most of the comorbidities were generalized disabilities. Conclusion: Although a large number of the periodicals have contributed to knowledge building on disabled persons with dental care needs, the number of articles is small compared to other fields of dentistry. Moreover, important gaps in knowledge persist and projects with better methodological designs are needed to offer a more substantial contribution to clinical practice

INCLUSÃO SOCIAL PARA PACIENTE COM DEFICIÊNCIA: UM NOVO MOTIVO PARA SORRIR

Há séculos a sociedade encontra dificuldades em lidar com indivíduos com deficiências. Essas dificuldades são frutos do legado histórico e da falta de informação, gerando preconceito e despreparo da sociedade para atendê-los. As pessoas com deficiências são indivíduos que possuem alterações físicas, intelectuais, sociais e/ou emocionais e que necessitam de educação especial e instruções suplementares temporárias ou definitivas. A inclusão social pressupõe que todo ser humano tenha direito à educação, saúde, cultura, lazer, trabalho, assistência social, além de acesso à informação, comunicação, meios de transporte e locais de convivência. Neste sentido, a assistência odontológica precisa ser incentivada.  O presente trabalho tem como objetivo apresentar um caso clínico de um paciente deficiente com 17 anos, que apresentava dificuldades de acesso ao mercado de trabalho em função de sua condição bucal. Após o tratamento realizado no Projeto de Extensão “Conquistando Saúde: Atendimento de pacientes com deficiências” da ULBRA/RS, o paciente teve sua auto-estima elevada e inclusão social resgatada. For many centuries, society has been having difficulties dealing with disabled individuals. Such difficulties are a result of historical legacy and lack of information, which generates prejudice and makes society unable to provide care to these people. Disabled individuals have physical, intellectual, social and/or emotional alterations and they need to receive special education and temporary and definitive additional instructions. Social inclusion is based on the fact that every human being has the right to education, health, culture, leisure, work, social care, as well as access to information, communication, means of transport, and venues to get together. In that sense, dental care must be promoted. The objective of the present study is to report on a clinical case of a 17-year-old disabled patient who was having difficulties getting a job due to his oral condition. After being treated in the Extracurricular Project "Achieving Health:  Disabled Patients' Care" of ULBRA/RS, the patient's self-esteem was higher and he was socially included. Desde hace siglos la sociedad encuentra dificultades en tratar con individuos con deficiencias. Esas dificultades son frutos del legado histórico y de la falta de información, generando prejuicio y falta de preparación de la sociedad para atenderlos. Las personas con deficiencia son individuos que poseen alteraciones físicas, intelectuales, sociales y/o emocionales y que necesitan de educación especial e instrucciones suplementarias temporales o definitivas. La inclusión social presupone que todo ser humano tenga derecho a la educación, la salud, la cultura, el ocio, el trabajo, la asistencia social, además de acceso a la información, la comunicación, los medios de transporte y los locales de convivencia. En este sentido, la asistencia odontológica necesita ser incentivada.  El presente trabajo tiene por objetivo presentar un caso clínico de un paciente deficiente con 17 años, que presentaba dificultades de acceso al mercado laboral en función de su condición bucal. Después del tratamiento realizado en el Proyecto de Extensión “Conquistando Salud: Atención a pacientes con deficiencias”, de ULBRA/RS, el paciente tuvo su autoestima elevada e inclusión social rescatada.

Construção de fotonovela com auxílio dos dispositivos móveis utilizado como estratégia de avaliação sobre estrutura e função das vitaminas no organismo/ The fotonovela constructed with the help of the mobile devices used as an evaluation strategy for intermolecular interactions in chemistry classes

Para melhorar o processo de ensino-aprendizagem em Química, os professores buscam desenvolver e avaliar novas práticas pedagógicas que facilitem a aprendizagem e estimulem para o estudo.  No ensino de Química, a utilização de imagens costuma ser um recurso muito utilizado, pois auxilia no desenvolvimento cognitivo. O avanço crescente de novas tecnologias digitais de informação e comunicação tornou os dispositivos móveis tão acessíveis aos estudantes, que estes apresentam grande domínio no uso criativo destes aparelhos. Estes aspectos, aliados à importância de colocar o aluno como protagonista do seu processo de aprendizagem, levaram à criação de uma atividade inovadora envolvendo fotonovelas, vitaminas e interações interpartículas. O presente trabalho avalia a atividade pedagógica de criação de Fotonovelas, utilizando o aplicativo PicsArt, disponíveis para dispositivos móveis, realizadas por alunos do Colégio Estadual São Daniel Comboni, em uma abordagem interdisciplinar entre Química e Língua Portuguesa. Foram produzidas 14 fotonovelas, distribuídas em três turmas da primeira série do Ensino Médio contendo 30 slides cada uma, utilizando como personagens os próprios alunos da turma. A análise do questionário respondido pelos estudantes indica que a atividade foi divertida, facilitadora, aplicável a outras disciplinas e inovadora. Esta atividade valorizou as potencialidades dos estudantes, promovendo o protagonismo, favorecendo uma aprendizagem significativa

Interoperabilidades en el proceso de documentación y comunicación del patrimonio cultural

This article discusses the complex process of documenting cultural heritage, from the conception of the 3D mapping project, through massive data acquisition, by laser scanning or photogrammetry, analysis and management of the data base, elaboration of scientific drawings and models Mesh and HBIM, until the output/communication of information, seeking to achieve pre-established objectives (heritage education, maintenance, conservation and restoration of cultural heritage, among others). In this process, the interfaces, which will be called interoperability here, are still a challenge for the actors in the process, whether they are producers or receivers of information. Therefore, this text is structured from the five interoperability present in the workflow of the process: semantic and international, organizational, inter-community, technical and human interoperability. The research was divided into three moments: a) bibliographic review; b) experimentation and c) analysis and discussion of results. Specifically regarding technical interoperability, that is, the interface between different software and between different means of representation, the research was based on the investigation methodology by Design Science Research (DSR), from the identification of a problem, application of a hypothesis optimization of the interface between the mesh models and the HBIM model, evaluation and analysis of the same, conclusion and learning from the process carried out. The study that served as a support to discuss the different interoperability in the process of heritage documentation was the Centro de Divulgação Científica e Cultural da da Universidade de São Paulo (USP), in São Carlos - SP.Este artículo aborda el complejo proceso de documentación del patrimonio cultural, desde la concepción del proyecto de mapeo 3D, pasando por la adquisición masiva de datos, por escaneo láser o fotogrametría, análisis y manejo de la base de datos, elaboración de modelos científicos y Mesh y HBIM, hasta la salida/comunicación de información, buscando alcanzar objetivos preestablecidos (educación patrimonial, mantenimiento, conservación y restauración del patrimonio cultural, entre otros). En este proceso, las interfaces, que aquí denominaremos interoperabilidad, siguen siendo un desafío para los actores del proceso, ya sean productores o receptores de información. Por tanto, este texto se estructura a partir de las cinco interoperabilidades presentes en el flujo de trabajo del proceso: interoperabilidad semántica e internacional, organizativa, intercomunitaria, técnica y humana. La investigación se dividió en tres momentos: a) revisión bibliográfica; b) experimentación yc) análisis y discusión de resultados. Específicamente en cuanto a la interoperabilidad técnica, es decir, la interfaz entre diferentes softwares y entre diferentes medios de representación, la investigación se basó en la metodología de investigación de Design Science Research (DSR), a partir de la identificación de un problema, aplicación de una hipótesis de optimización del interfaz entre los modelos de malla y el modelo HBIM, evaluación y análisis del mismo, conclusión y aprendizaje del proceso realizado. El estudio que sirvió de apoyo para discutir las distintas interoperabilidades en el proceso de documentación patrimonial fue el Centro de Difusión Científica y Cultural de la Universidad de São Paulo, en São Carlos - SP.O presente artigo coloca em discussão o complexo processo de documentação do patrimônio cultural, desde a concepção do projeto de mapeamento 3D, passando pela aquisição maciça de dados, por escaneamento a laser ou fotogrametria, análise e gestão do data base, elaboração de desenhos científicos e modelos Mesh e HBIM, até  a saída/ comunicação das informações, procurando alcançar os objetivos pré-estabelecidos (educação patrimonial, manutenção, conservação e restauro do patrimônio cultural, entre outros). Neste processo, as interfaces, que aqui serão denominadas de interoperabilidades, são ainda hoje, um desafio para os atores do processo, sejam eles os produtores ou receptores da informação. Para tanto, este texto estrutura-se a partir das cinco interoperabilidades presentes no workflow do processo: a interoperabilidade semântica e internacional, a organizacional, a intercomunitária, a técnica e a humana. A pesquisa foi dividida em três momentos: a) revisão bibliográfica; b) experimentação e c) análise e discussão dos resultados.
