    Get PDF
Objectives: While great advances have been made in the field of pediatric dentistry, creating a friendly relationship with pediatric patients and getting them to readily accept dental treatment and cooperate remains challenging. Cooperation by children can affect the quality of dental visit and the required time for the treatment. Dentists’ attire could be one of the factors that significantly affect children’s cooperation. The aim of this study was to assess children’s preferences towards dentists’ attire and to determine the influence of its design, color, and other factors on treatment acceptance. Methods: A total of 103 children aged between 6-12 years were randomly divided into three groups (68 children in two study groups and 35 children in one control group). The children were examined by the pediatric dentists wearing different attires. Two questionnaires were designed; one was supposed to be answered by the parents before the dental visit and one by the children after the visit. Results: The majority of children preferred the shirts that were adorned with Winnie the Pooh, while the treatment acceptance was not significantly different between the groups. Sex, age, number of family members, birth order, patient’s personality type, and parents’ educational level had no significant impact on treatment acceptance. Conclusion: Although the attire design did not significantly affect treatment acceptance, it helped to establish a good relationship with pediatric patients in their first visit. The results help pediatric dentists choose attire that are better received by pediatric patients

Pulse electrodeposition of Ni/nano-SiC composite coatings: Effect of waveform, duty cycle and current density

    Get PDF
In this study, nano-sized SiC particles have been codeposited with nickel using an additive free sulfamate bath under pulsed direct current (PDC) and direct current (DC). In order to find the effect of current density, duty cycle (D.C.) and waveform on coating, coatings have been studied in terms of microstructure, microhardness and SiC-codeposition. The scanning electron microscope results shown that the grain microstructure of the coatings have significantly affected by the waveform and D.C. changing the waveform in order of square, sine and ramp and also decreasing the D.C. resulted in finer grain microstructure. The SiC codeposition has shown an optimum value of about 3.3 wt% at the D.C. value of 30%; it also shows a reasonable trend with changes in the waveform. Moreover, according to the microhardness results, the composite coatings with fine grain microstructure have shown a higher microhardness

    Get PDF
Agricultural business is a very high-risk job and an increase demand for agricultural products from one side and steady increase in production cost and weather changes, on the other side, have motivated many to use insurance for agricultural products. Insurance plays an important role in influencing crop production and insured satisfaction or farmers. The purpose of this research is to find critical components in agricultural insurance. Based on an exploration of the literature review and interviews, the proposed study of this paper extracts 24 variables and using factor analysis, we select the most important factors, which are grouped in seven categories. The implementation of our factor analysis has revealed uncertainty, moderator, market equilibrium, risky environment, empowering factor, education, training, structural hazards and natural ecosystems as the most important factors influencing agricultural industry

Analysis of the concept of "document" from the perspective of the tradition of documentation and neo-documentation

    Get PDF
The Documentation Movement was formed in Europe in the late nineteenth century by the leadership of Paul Otlet and Henri La Fontaine, with the primary goal of establishing international mechanisms for organizing information and knowledge through which all kinds of documents could be collected, organized, and accessible. One of the characteristics of this historical event was the increasingly theoretical treatment of the concept of document as a discourse concept in the field of information. This approach has been revived in recent years under the name of neo-documentation. The purpose of this work is to analyze the conceptual dimensions of "document" from the perspective of the documentation literature and especially neo-documentation. In the field of documentaion literature, the theories of Paul Otlet and Suzanne Briet are emphasized, and in the field of neo-documentation literature, the theories of Lund, Buckland, Irvine-Smith, and Hjorland are emphasized. The research is basic in terms of purpose and conceptual analysis in terms of method and data collection. Also in this research, conceptual analysis has been used with the aim of "concept interpretation" and as far as possible to gain a more accurate understanding of the studied concept. The results showed that former review research on the subject had recognized two general approaches to conceptualizing document, namely, the "document-as-object approach" (inspired by positivism and with emphasis on the objectivity component) and "document-as-medium approach" (inspired by the hermeneutic tradition). The present study identifies three other approaches and adds to this categorization which include: the "integrated approach" (with a comprehensive emphasis on the physical, mental, and social aspects of the document), the " document-as-agent approach" (with emphasis on the concept of agency), and the "Hjorland's intradisciplinary approach" (with emphasis on the concept of context, reference to the tradition of documentation, and the bibliographic paradigm). In addition, researchers have proposed adding a new dimension to the integrated approach. Researchers believe that because of the importance of the "power" and "discourse" components in relation to knowledge, information, and documents, adding a "power relations dimension" to Lund's integrated approach could lead to a more comprehensive understanding of the document from a variety of technical, Social, intellectual-content, as well as discourse perspective

The effects of bio and chemical fertilizers on yield and some of physiological characteristics in maize under drought stress levels, were studied by an experiment in the research field of agricultural faculty, university of kurdistan in 2011. The experiment was arranged in split plot based on randomized complete block design with three replications. Three irrigation levels containing optimal irrigation (irrigation at soil water potential -3 bar), moderate drought stress (irrigation at soil water potential -7 bar) and severe water stress (irrigation at soil water potential -11 bar) were allocated to main plots and four fertilizer levels including no fertilizer (control), chemical fertilizer, bio-fertilizer and a combination of biological and chemical fertilizer (100% biological + 50% chemical) were considered as sub factor. Results showed that water deficit stress had negative effects on yield, and the fertilizer application could not prevent reduction of grain yield under severe drought stress condition. The highest grain yield was obtained under optimum irrigation and application of combinational treatment chemical fertilizer + phosphate-biofertilizer + nitroxin with an average of yield 13 ton.ha-1 that showed a 257 percent increase in comparison with control. The chlorophyll a content was decreased, but chlorophyll b content was decreased with increasing stress intensity. The results showed that catalase and peroxidase enzymes activity were increased in drought stress conditions more than optimal irrigation condition. The application of fertilizer partly mitigated the effects of drought stress and reduced antioxidant enzymes activity

Psychological complications appear to be significant disorders which need prolonged recovery period. They cause disability and impose hospitalized costs on patients. This systematic review was aimed to investigate the effectiveness of medicinal herbs on psychological indices in patients undergoing surgeries. The keywords such as anxiety, depression, aggressive, impulsive, stress, delirium and cognitive in combination with surgery and medicinal plants search terms such as medicinal plant or phyto or herb were used to search for relevant publications indexed in the Institute for Scientific Information (ISI), Scopus and PubMed using EndNote software. A total of 1231 studies with mentioned keywords were added to the bank of the study and after considering inclusion and exclusion criteria, 36 human studies were reviewed. Some medicinal plants such as Passiflora incarnata L., Valeriana officinalis L., Melissa officinalis L., Crocus sativus L., and Rosa damascena Mill. and some herbal formulas like Hochu-ekki-to and Yokukansan and also some phytochemicals such as ω-6 PUFA and Gastrodin reduce the psychological symptoms in several ways in the patients undergoing operation. Most of the clinical studies were carried out on aromatherapy and the others were based on oral administration. Taken together, using medicinal herbs in medical settings before and after surgery is an effective alternative way for alleviating some psychological disorders such as anxiety, depression, aggressive and impulsive behavior, stress, delirium and cognitive dysfunction. However, the surgeons and anesthesiologists must be aware of their interaction and possible complications

Background: Depression is one of the most prevalent mental disorders that severely affect activities and mental health. The present study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) on reducing impulsive behaviors (IBs), alexithymia, and despair in depressed patients at counseling centers in Ahvaz. Methods: The research method was quasi-experimental with a pre-test, post-test, and one-month follow-up design, and a control group. The study population comprised all patients with depression who were referred to the counseling centers of Ahvaz in 2019. The sample consisted of 30 patients with depression selected by convenience sampling and divided into experimental and control groups (n= 15 per group). The experimental group underwent twelve sessions (90-minutes sessions per week) of cognitive-behavioral therapy. The research instruments included the Barratt Impulsiveness Scale (BIS), the Toronto Alexithymia Scale (TAS-20), and the Miller Hope Scale (MHS). The follow-up was performed after 30 days. Data were analyzed using multivariate analysis of covariance (MANCOVA). Results: The results showed that cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) reduced impulsive behaviors (IBs), alexithymia, and despair in the experimental group of depressed groups compared with the control group in the post-test and follow-up (Pvalue= 0.0001). Conclusions: CBT can be used at counseling centers for better treatment of IBs, alexithymia, and despair in depressed groups. Keywords: Cognitive-behavioral therapy, Impulsive behaviors, Alexithymia, Despair, Depression

Down-regulation of miR-135b in colon adenocarcinoma induced by a TGF-β receptor I kinase inhibitor (SD-208).

OBJECTIVES Transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) is involved in colorectal cancer (CRC). The SD-208 acts as an anti-cancer agent in different malignancies via TGF-β signaling. This work aims to show the effect of manipulation of TGF-β signaling on some miRNAs implicated in CRC. MATERIALS AND METHODS We investigated the effects of SD-208 on SW-48, a colon adenocarcinoma cell line. The cell line was treated with 0.5, 1 and 2 μM concentrations of SD-208. Then, the xenograft model of colon cancer was established by subcutaneous inoculation of SW-48 cell line into the nude mice. The animals were treated with SD-208 for three weeks. A quantitative real-time PCR was carried out for expression level analysis of selected oncogenic (miR-21, 31, 20a and 135b) and suppressor-miRNAs (let7-g, miR-133b, 145 and 200c). Data were analyzed using the 2-∆∆CT method through student's t-test via the GraphPad Prism software. RESULTS Our results revealed that SD-208 could significantly down-regulate the expression of one key onco-miRNA, miR-135b, in either SW-48 colon cells (P=0.006) or tumors orthotopically implanted in nude mice (P=0.018). Our in silico study also predicted that SD-208 could modulate the expression of potential downstream tumor suppressor targets of the miR135b. CONCLUSION Our data provide novel evidence that anticancer effects of SD-208 (and likely other TGF-β inhibitors) may be owing to their ability to regulate miRNAs expression
