Material characterization of graphene enhanced Class-H cement under thermal cyclic conditions

    Get PDF
Geothermal heat harvesting is the process of extracting heat from the earth’s subsurface where it is trapped below the diverse rock formations to be converted into usable energy. Cementing of the drilled wells requires the use of materials that are stable at high cyclic temperatures as production ranges between 160°C and +300°C. Ordinary Portland Cement a brittle material (OPC) when mixed with additives can provide improvement to the mechanical stability and enhance fracture resistance at these conditions. One such additive that has gained interest in other fields and applications, but not much explored in cementing field due to its unreactive and hydrophobic nature, is graphene nanoplatelets (GNPs). This study focuses on mixing GNPs with Class-H cement in very low concentrations of 0.1% or less by weight of cement (bwoc) and evaluating the performance and effectiveness in fracture prevention when undergone thermal cycling between 20 °C and 110 °C, 95% relative humidity when hydrated for 7 and 28 days in pH 13 Ca(OH)₂ solution. GNPs in the form of powder (PG) prepared from the environmental waste and a 99.5% carbon purity lab grade liquid dispersion GNPs (LG) were used. 0% GNPs (neat) control, 0.008%, 0.1% of PG and LG mix design cement samples were prepared following API 10B specifications. Results show that 0.1%LG samples hydrated for 28 days had greater dispersion of GNPs with a notable increase in the ductile behavior out of all the designs tested. There is a 13.21% decrease in permeability, 27.77% decrease in hardness and 50.71% decrease in elasticity when compared to neat sample hydrated for 28 days thus proving its effectiveness for wellbore integrity with increase in hydration time

    Conceptualizing inter-organizational triads

    Get PDF
Interest in triads and triadic research settings for the study of inter-organizational issues is growing. A literature review of inter-organizational studies, claiming a use of triadic research design, shows that the terms “triad” and “triadic” have been used to describe many different types of inter-organizational phenomena. However, not all studies involving a context of three actors are actually examining triads. This paper offers a robust definition of three-actor constellations qualifying as triads. Moreover, it elaborates on different types of inter-organizational triads, based on two aspects of collectivity; cohesion and the ability to act as a single entity. The definition of inter-organizational triads and the categorization of different types of triads will hopefully encourage further studies of triads; the smallest and simplest network which offers insights, which cannot be achieved in the study of single actors or dyads.© 2016 Elsevier. Ending-competence in business closure

    Get PDF
Business closure and ending-competence are highly relevant concepts in a globalizing world economy where structural change is common. However, ending-competence in business closure situations is a rarely studied phenomenon, and prior theoretical development is modest. In this paper a conceptual model of ending-competence in business closure is developed. A case study examination of a business closure, involving a car manufacturing plant owned by Mitsubishi Motors Australia Ltd., allows further development of the model. The model consists of four elements: (1) earlier experiences of ending; (2) an understanding of different types of commitment; (3) the interdependence between parties; and (4) coordinating and timing the ending. The model illustrates the different roles played by upper and operational management during a closure process. An understanding of ending-competence is important to managers of large firms and to educators of future managers. © 2011.Virpi Havila and Christopher J. Medli

Conceptually Confused, but on a Field Level? A Method for Conceptual Analysis and its Application

    Get PDF
This paper develops and applies a Conceptual Analysis Method (CAM). The CAM is a critical reflection on multiple definitions and descriptions of concepts and terms all used to refer to a phenomenon or the experiences of it. The method particularly helps researchers working in emerging research fields to discover any conceptual confusion and elucidate multiple terms and concepts. We demonstrate the utility of the CAM by discovering conceptual confusion on an example field: business relationship uncoupling, and elucidating its terms and concepts. This paper adds to the discussion on the importance of conscious conceptual language for theory development, on the level of a research field. </p

Strewn Effective Hiding In Shared Wireless Networks

    Get PDF
This paper introduces cooperative caching techniques for reducing electronic content provisioning cost in Social Wireless Networks (SWNET).SWNETs are formed by mobile devices, such as modern cell phones etc. sharing common takings in electronic content, and actually meeting together in public places. Electronic object caching in such SWNETs are shown to be able to reduce the content provisioning cost which depends heavily on the service and pricing dependences among various stakeholders including content providers (CP), network service providers, and End Consumers (EC).This paper develops practical network, service, and pricing models which are then used for creating two object caching strategies for reducing content provisioning costs in networks with homogenous and heterogeneous object demands. The paper develops analytical and simulation designs for analysing the proposed caching strategies in the presence of selfish users that deviate from network-wide costoptimal policies. It also reports results from an Android phone based prototype SWNET, validating the presented analytical and simulation results
