    Get PDF
This literature review explores the phenomenon of the sharing economy, specifically the popular home-sharing concept of Airbnb. Peer-reviewed articles were used that report on the results of studies conducted via data research by studying Airbnb listings and third-party hotel data and various online surveys that reveal what drives traveler\u27s decisions to select Airbnb accommodations over traditional hotels. “Airbnb describes itself as a trusted community marketplace for people to list, discover and book unique accommodations around the world” (Zervas, Proserpio & Byers, 2017, p.689). This paper also looks at the company and the availability of booking Airbnb accommodations across the world. The uncovered motivations for selecting Airbnb include price, authenticity and household amenities. Several other opportunities for additional research are also presented

This study presents development of real time energy monitoring system installed in Level 17, Tower 2, Engineering Complex, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Malaysia. The device and programming uses microcontroller board Arduino, ESP8266 Wi-Fi module, sensors and Emoncms.org web server to record and display the real time power and energy consumption, energy cost, energy index and CO2 emissions. The device allows 3 phase measurement of energy use in the building level where the main power source has been divided into several loads such as lighting, power plug, and Air Conditioning (AC) fan. The device is capable to transmit the data at set time interval using Wi-Fi communication and logging directly to local SD card for further analysis. The device was calibrated using FLUKE 485 power meter concurrently to meet a good reliable result with lower tolerance. The device was installed and tested during testing period including weekdays and weekend to see hourly energy performance in the particular building level. It is found that the device provides reading with average error of 2.04% as compared to commercial meter during one week testing period

Taiwan’s democracy and freedom of the press provide the Chinese authorities with an opportunity to use Taiwanese businessmen to influence Taiwan’s media outlets and politics. China uses three inter-related strategies to influence Taiwan’s media in this way: persuading businessmen with pro-China views to purchase Taiwanese media outlets, pressuring existing media owners, and placing advertisements in Taiwan’s media in order to purchase political influence. In addition, the Chinese government also employs cyber-propaganda strategy to attack Taiwanese political parties and politicians

ABSTRACT WOMEN’S HIGH HEEL DISCOMFORT ANALYSIS AND SOLUTION Kevin Blakley and Annamarie Kepple Women love high heeled shoes, but this love comes at the cost of comfort. Wearing high heels causes a lot of pain and, in the long term, health complications. This project tries to overcome the problem by ultimately making high heels more comfortable. In order to do this, one must first understand the reasons that high heels are uncomfortable, such as arch angle, heel height, and the changes in walking motion. Once there is a true understanding of the factors that contribute to high heel discomfort, the design stage can begin. The design selected for this project was a wedge heel that contained compressive material. This design would improve user comfort in four different criteria. These criteria were arch angle, compression of the shoe, foot rotation, and ground contact surface area of the heel. After the working prototype was created, it was performance tested in these four criteria against a standard stiletto heel and a standard wedge. The results of the prototype showed a great improvement in all of these criteria, resulting in a more comfortable high heel. However, there were a few areas that this prototype and the production process could be improved upon in the future. First, the prototype weight was a critical design factor, which resulted in a heel that is noticeably heavier then a standard high heel. Next, the cost to produce the prototype is much higher than is economically preferable if the shoes were to be sold for profit. Finally, a more refined manufacturing process would be more beneficial in creating a more aesthetically pleasing product

Sensor-enabled PCBs to aid right first time manufacture through defect prediction

© 2014 IEEE. Prevention of defects can reduce waste and aid lean strategies such as right first time manufacture. The prediction of defects leads to prevention; however accurate prediction requires a high understanding of the domain and mechanics of each defect. For a prediction simulation to adapt to a manufacturing line's conditions requires timely information about the products being manufactured. In this paper, research into the addition of a sensory circuit to a PCB in order to monitor defects through its manufacture into a PCBA is outlined. Manual handling and the number of thermal cycles are attributors to many of a product's potential defects. The use of an accelerometer and temperature sensor in a circuit alongside a processor and RFID chip is presented. The use of RFID allows the board to communicate to the manufacturing line, increasing the current state of intelligence for this type of product. The use of an RFID chip also allows data storage for both manufacturing information as well as sensory information. This intelligence capability could be added to the PCB in one of two ways; embedding within the layers of the board or by integrating into a pallet or carrier which the PCB will be associated with throughout its manufacture

Communication is an indispensable tool that is used to communicate various emotions, exchange information, transmit messages, and carry out a variety of other functions. In order to achieve a successful communication, both speakers and listeners work together to attain a common understanding. They do that by deciphering words, word choices, and linguistic connections used to express something. They can achieve that only if they both interpret what is said in the same way. Although individual words do not usually have meanings by themselves, human determine that meaning. Thus, one word cannot always carry a Connotational meaning since humans have a significant role in determining the reference of that word. The present study tackles the concept of reference in “The Daily Show with Trevor Noah”. It tries to find out how the different types of reference are used by speakers to express meaning that is inferred by the audience. The study aims at 1)identifying the most used types of reference in satirical talk shows, and 2) showing the way in which reference functions in satirical talk shows. The data are taken from an episode of the American satirical talk show entitled “The Daily Show with Trevor Noah”. The finding of the analysis show that: 1) referential and attributive meanings are mostly used in the data, and 2) reference functions as a tool to criticize politicians and ridicule Trump and his family for their irresponsible behavior and carelessness
