    Dhaka is the capital city of Bangladesh. A notable number of people have to go to and return from Dhaka every day. Most of the people use bus service. The situation of Dhaka-Pabna route bus service is not exception of this. Gradually the number of customer as well as service provider is increasing in this route. As a result, the service providers are facing competition to attract and retain customer. Measuring customer satisfaction is very important in attracting and retaining customer. This study was intended to identify service quality attributes in the long route public bus transit service and measure the customer satisfaction by surveying a number of 250 respondents. Finding shows that, overall 13% customers are very satisfied, 48% customers are somewhat satisfied, 32% customers are somewhat dissatisfied and 7% customers are very dissatisfied. Some recommendations are also provided to attract and retain customer

    How sustainable household environment and knowledge of healthy practices relate to childhood morbidity in South Asia: analysis of survey data from Bangladesh, Nepal and Pakistan

    Objectives Prevalence of diarrhoea and acute respiratory infection (ARI) is considerably high among South Asian children. The objective of this study is to compare the associations of sustainable household environment and knowledge of healthy practices with episodes of these diseases among the children in the region. Design The study analysed the latest, nationally representative and cross-sectional Demographic and Health Survey data. Setting Data from three countries were analysed: Bangladesh, Nepal and Pakistan. Participants Women aged between 12 and 49 years living in selected households provided information on 23 940 of their children under the age of 5 years. Primary outcomes measures The morbidity status of the children was recorded with respect to episodes of diarrhoea and/or ARI in the 2 weeks preceding data collection. Results Consuming unhygienic drinking water increased the risks of childhood diarrhoea, and use of solid fuel for indoor cooking increased the risk of ARI, across all three countries investigated. However, far more significant were the effects of mother's education, with incomplete primary education leading to an odds of diarrhoea approaching twice that of a mother with secondary education or higher (OR 1.70 in Bangladesh, 95% CI 1.16 to 2.49). Conclusions Results from the current research underline the importance of developing and implementing integrated strategic plans for mothers and children in the countries investigated. Promoting hygienic water and sanitation facilities can help reduce the prevalence of childhood diarrhoea. Replacing indoor solid fuel cooking arrangements with cleaner fuel or more airy conditions can help reduce the prevalence of ARI. However, these strategies need to be integrated with education for women to raise the likelihood that reduced risks are actually realised

    Evaluating annual maximum and partial duration series for estimating frequency of small magnitude floods

    Understanding the nature of frequent floods is important for characterising channel morphology, riparian and aquatic habitat, and informing river restoration efforts. This paper presents results from an analysis on frequency estimates of low magnitude floods using the annual maximum and partial series data compared to actual flood series. Five frequency distribution models were fitted to data from 24 gauging stations in the Great Barrier Reef (GBR) lagoon catchments in north-eastern Australia. Based on the goodness of fit test, Generalised Extreme Value, Generalised Pareto and Log Pearson Type 3 models were used to estimate flood frequencies across the study region. Results suggest frequency estimates based on a partial series are better, compared to an annual series, for small to medium floods, while both methods produce similar results for large floods. Although both methods converge at a higher recurrence interval, the convergence recurrence interval varies between catchments. Results also suggest frequency estimates vary slightly between two or morepartial series, depending on flood threshold, and the differences are large for the catchments that experience less frequent floods. While a partial series produces better frequency estimates, it can underestimate or overestimate the frequency if the flood threshold differs largely compared to bankfull discharge. These results have significant implications in calculating the dependency of floodplain ecosystems on the frequency of flooding and their subsequent management

    Solar energy is one of the important sources of renewable energy which can be a feasible alternative to fossil fuels. There are many works has been done in order to incorporate solar energy to everyday transportation including tricycle. However, most of the tricycle develops are expensive and not feasible for developing countries. In this study, a cheaper solar tricycle with more capability of utilizing the solar energy is designed for developing countries. The main content of the tricycle is Solar PV panel, Brushless PMDC motor, controller, and battery. The power transmission of the solar tricycle is also simple. It is found that tricycle serves 24% back up for running, by the solar panel. Also, the total construction cost of the tricycle is only 240$ with near about zero impact on the environment. This paper highlights the advantages of the dual mode of charging, including the economic and environmental feasibility of the tricycle

    Robust Co-clustering to Discover Toxicogenomic Biomarkers and Their Regulatory Doses of Chemical Compounds Using Logistic Probabilistic Hidden Variable Model

    Detection of biomarker genes and their regulatory doses of chemical compounds (DCCs) is one of the most important tasks in toxicogenomic studies as well as in drug design and development. There is an online computational platform “Toxygates” to identify biomarker genes and their regulatory DCCs by co-clustering approach. Nevertheless, the algorithm of that platform based on hierarchical clustering (HC) does not share gene-DCC two-way information simultaneously during co-clustering between genes and DCCs. Also it is sensitive to outlying observations. Thus, this platform may produce misleading results in some cases. The probabilistic hidden variable model (PHVM) is a more effective co-clustering approach that share two-way information simultaneously, but it is also sensitive to outlying observations. Therefore, in this paper we have proposed logistic probabilistic hidden variable model (LPHVM) for robust co-clustering between genes and DCCs, since gene expression data are often contaminated by outlying observations. We have investigated the performance of the proposed LPHVM co-clustering approach in a comparison with the conventional PHVM and Toxygates co-clustering approaches using simulated and real life TGP gene expression datasets, respectively. Simulation results show that the proposed method improved the performance over the conventional PHVM in presence of outliers; otherwise, it keeps equal performance. In the case of real life TGP data analysis, three DCCs (glibenclamide-low, perhexilline-low, and hexachlorobenzene-medium) for glutathione metabolism pathway dataset as well as two DCCs (acetaminophen-medium and methapyrilene-low) for PPAR signaling pathway dataset were incorrectly co-clustered by the Toxygates online platform, while only one DCC (hexachlorobenzene-low) for glutathione metabolism pathway was incorrectly co-clustered by the proposed LPHVM approach. Our findings from the real data analysis are also supported by the other findings in the literature

    THE SCENARIOS OF COVID-19 PANDEMIC IN BANGLADESH: ANALYSIS OF DATA IN JULY ANDAUGUST’2020

    The outbreak of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) pandemic quickly surges throughout the world including Bangladesh from the beginning of 2020. To challenge the present detrimental situations, many countries are approving several preventive measures, e.g., international travel bans, isolated office activities, country lockdown, and most importantly social distancing, even though some medications are prescribed in some extent. The government of Bangladesh also took various preventive measures to limit the thunder of corona virus disease 20019 (COVID-19) pandemic. But, the actions are not adequate to face the challenges of COVID-19 in Bangladesh, particularly in the capital city Dhaka, remarkably because of the lower-middle-income economy with one of the world’s densest populations. In Dhaka city, based on the present populations, social distancing is difficult, and with the nominal resources it would be extremely challenging to implement the mitigation measures of COVID-19. Mobile sanitization facilities, temporary quarantine sites and healthcare facilities could help to improve the pandemic effect. A rapid, caring, and empathic collaboration between the government, citizens, and health experts, along with international assistance, can enable the country to minimize the impact of the pandemic. In this review, we summarize the occurrence (RT-PCR based test) and present scenarios of COVID-19 outbreak in Bangladesh, particularly in the Dhaka city analyzing available data in July and August’2020
