    An archery rangefinder for use from an elevated position comprises a power supply for an electronic digital panel meter and a power supply for two voltage divider circuits that comprise the rangefinding circuit. One voltage divider provides a voltage signal proportional to the elevation distance. This signal acts to supply the second voltage divider to attenuate the voltage further by a factor proportional to the tangent of the inclination angle. A weighted pendulum arm is attached to a potentiometric element in the second voltage divider to effect feedback relevant to the angle of inclination. All circuits and components are housed within an outer protective enclosure. Voltage across a fixed resistor in the second voltage divider is read and displayed by said digital panel meter as the range which is then used by the archer to increase accuracy of shots

    Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh rendahnya sebagian mahasiswa Pendidikan Akuntansi berkaitan dengan kecerdasan emosi mahasiswa Pendidikan Akuntansi. Pentingnya mengkaji kecerdasan emosi mahasiswa, berkaitan dengan tujuan program studi Pendidikan Akuntansi yaitu mempersiapkan calon guru akuntansi menjelang PPL, dimana bukan hanya aspek kecerdasan intelgensi, namun kecerdasan emosi juga sangat penting dalam mempersiapkan mahasiswa terutama. Teori untuk membahas penelitian ini adalah kecerdasan Emosi dari Goleman, efikasi diri dari Bandura dan Interaksi sosial Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengkaji pengaruh interaksi sosial dan efikasi diri terhadap kecerdasan emosi. Metode penelitian menggunakan verifikatif dengan desain survey ekspalanatory. Populasi seluruh mahasiswa Pendidikan Akuntansi sebanyak dengan sampel 120 responden. Pengumpulan data dengan angket dan analisis data menggunakan analisis jalur (path analysis). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa interaksi sosial dan efikasi diri baik secara parsial maupun secara simultan berpengaruh positif terhadap kecerdasan emosi. Dengan Interaksi sosial sebagai faktor yang paling berpengaruh terhadap kecerdasan emosi. Berdasarkan analisis data, maka diperlukan peningkatan indikator yang masih rendah yaitu indikator kerjasama dalam variabel interaksi sosial dan perencanaan pengaturan diri dalam variabel efikasi diri

    Pharmacokinetics of Py-Im Polyamides Depend on Architecture: Cyclic versus Linear

    The pharmacokinetic properties of three pyrrole-imidazole (Py-Im) polyamides of similar size and Py-Im content but different shape were studied in the mouse. Remarkably, hairpin and cyclic oligomers programmed for the same DNA sequence 5′-WGGWWW-3′ displayed distinct pharmacokinetic properties. Furthermore, the hairpin 1 and cycle 2 exhibited vastly different animal toxicities. These data provide a foundation for design of DNA binding Py-Im polyamides to be tested in vivo

    Topical anti-inflammatory activity of Polygonum cuspidatum extract in the TPA model of mouse ear inflammation

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>This study tested the ability of a characterized extract of <it>Polygonum cuspidatum </it>(PCE) to inhibit mouse ear inflammation in response to topical application of 12-<it>O-</it>tetradecanoylphorbol-13-acetate (TPA).</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>A 50% (wt:vol) ethanolic solution of commercial 200:1 PCE was applied to both ears of female Swiss mice (n = 8) at 0.075, 0.15, 0.3, 1.25 and 2.5 mg/ear 30 min after TPA administration (2 μg/ear). For comparison, 3 other groups were treated with TPA and either 1) the vehicle (50% ethanol) alone, 2) indomethacin (0.5 mg/ear), or 3) <it>trans</it>-resveratrol (0.62 mg/ear). Ear thickness was measured before TPA and at 4 and 24 h post-TPA administration to assess ear edema. Ear punch biopsies were collected at 24 h and weighed as a second index of edema. Myeloperoxidase activity was measured in each ear punch biopsy to assess neutrophil infiltration.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>PCE treatment at all doses significantly reduced ear edema compared to the TPA control. The PCE response was dose-dependent and 2.5 mg PCE significantly inhibited all markers of inflammation to a greater extent than indomethacin (0.5 mg). MPO activity was inhibited at PCE doses ≥ 1.25 mg/ear. <it>Trans-</it>resveratrol inhibited inflammation at comparable doses.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>PCE inhibits development of edema and neutrophil infiltration in the TPA-treated mouse ear model of topical inflammation.</p

    Energies of the transitions between high-lying (n≥6) states of muonic lead were accurately determined. The results are interpreted as a ∼2% test of the electron screening. The agreement between experiment and theory is good if it is assumed that the refilling of the electron K shell is fast. The present results furthermore severely restrict possible ionization of the electron L shell

    Gene expression changes in a tumor xenograft by a pyrrole-imidazole polyamide

    Gene regulation by DNA binding small molecules could have important therapeutic applications. This study reports the investigation of a DNA-binding pyrrole-imidazole polyamide targeted to bind the DNA sequence 5′-WGGWWW-3′ with reference to its potency in a subcutaneous xenograft tumor model. The molecule is capable of trafficking to the tumor site following subcutaneous injection and modulates transcription of select genes in vivo. An FITC-labeled analogue of this polyamide can be detected in tumor-derived cells by confocal microscopy. RNA deep sequencing (RNA-seq) of tumor tissue allowed the identification of further affected genes, a representative panel of which was interrogated by quantitative reverse transcription-PCR and correlated with cell culture expression levels

    Water, Climate, and Social Change in a Fragile Landscape

    We present here and in the companion papers an analysis of sustainability in the Middle Rio Grande region of the U.S.-Mexico border and propose an interdisciplinary research agenda focused on the coupled human and natural dimensions of water resources sustainability in the face of climate and social change in an international border region. Key threats to water sustainability in the Middle Rio Grande River region include: (1) increasing salinization of surface and ground water, (2) increasing water demand from a growing population in the El Paso/Ciudad Juarez area on top of an already high base demand from irrigated agriculture, (3) water quality impacts from agricultural, municipal, and industrial discharges to the river, (4) changing regional climate that portends increased frequency and intensity of droughts interspersed with more intensive rainfall and flooding events, and (5) disparate water planning and management systems between different states in the U.S. and between the U.S. and Mexico. In addition to these challenges, there is an increasing demand from a significant regional population who is (and has been historically) underserved in terms of access to affordable potable water. To address these challenges to water resources sustainability, we have focused on: (1) the determinants of resilience and transformability in an ecological/social setting on an international border and how they can be measured and predicted; and (2) the drivers of change ... what are they (climate, social, etc.) and how are they impacting the coupled human and natural dimensions of water sustainability on the border? To tackle these challenges, we propose a research agenda based on a complex systems approach that focuses on the linkages and feedbacks of the natural, built/managed, and social dimensions of the surface and groundwater budget of the region. The approach that we propose incorporates elements of systems analysis, complexity science, and the use of modeling tools such as scenario planning and back-casting to link the quantitative with the qualitative. This approach is unique for our region, as are our bi-national focus and our conceptualization of water capital . In particular, the concept of water capital provides the basis for a new interdisciplinary paradigm that integrates social, economic, and natural sectors within a systems framework in order to understand and characterize water resources sustainability. This proposed approach would not only provide a framework for water sustainability decision making for our bi-national region at the local, state, and federal levels, but could serve as a model for similar border regions and/or international rivers in arid and semi-arid regions in the Middle East, Africa, Asia, and Latin America
