本研究では,自転車が自動車に追い越される現象に着目して,追い越され時の安全感評価モデルを開発することで,追い越した自動車の速度,自転車との離隔幅,車種といった特性に加えて,自転車専用通行帯,カラー舗装,矢羽根,ピクトグラムなどの車道での通行空間表示が安全感に与える影響を定量的に明らかにした .“Guidelines for creating a safe and comfortable bicycle friendly environment” in 2012 adopted a policy that bicycle networks should be created mainly by bicycle lane type, and shared space on carriageway. Street design to secure safety sense of cyclists is needed because most of cyclists feel danger when they cycle on carriageway. The aim of this study is to build evaluation models from a viewpoint of bicycles' safety perception in order to clear the condition for the safety sense of cyclists in passing by vehicles. In conclusion, the effects by several features of passing vehicles and streets are measured, and colored bicycle lane itself can improve safety sense of cyclists even the distance and velocity of passing vehicles are same

Guideline for creation of safety and comfort bicycle environment" published by The Ministry of Land Infrastructure and Transport and The National Police Agency appears the policy that bicycle network plan should be formed mainly by bicycle lanes and shared lanes on carriageway. Because, most of cyclists, however, are afraid of running on the carriageway in Japan, improvement of safety sense towards carriageway is needed to promote cycling on carriageway. The aim of this study is to make clear the relationship between cyclists' safety sense and the conditions of streets and traffic characteristics along bicycle space. WEB questionnaire survey showing the video from bicycles was carried out in order to search cyclists' safety sense for 22 streets of various type of bicycle infrastructure selected in Tokyo Metropolitan area. As results, factors related to overtaking behaviors are significant, and existence of bicycle lanes or shared space on roadway has effects on the safety sense

A survey of national sustainable development indicators

We surveyed sustainable development indicators (SDIs) adopted by 28 national governments, regions, and international organisations and compiled them into a database. The aims of this study were to understand the elements of sustainable development (SD), examine SDIs developed in certain fields and countries, and determine future tasks to improve SDI development. A total of 1,790 indicators were surveyed and classified into 77 subcategories in four categories. Most of the indicators measured various SD elements, and the indicators reflected each country's developmental stage and specific concerns. Several advanced or unique indicators were also identified. Five major tasks in the future development of SDIs were identified: 1) creating time-conscious indicators; 2) measuring interactions between elements of a system; 3) dealing with transboundary issues in a national SDI system; 4) measuring SD quality (including subjective elements); 5) including ordinary citizens by showing the relationships between SDI and everyday life.sustainable development; national indicators; database; environmental information; statistics; categorisation; sustainability; social indicators; environmental indicators; economic indicators.
