    Implementasi Discovery Learning dalam Pembelajaran Biologi Materi Struktur dan Fungsi Jaringan Hewan

    Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) ini dilakukan untuk mendapatkan hasil dari Implementasi Discovery Learning terhadap hasil belajar siswa pada materi struktur dan fungsi jaringan hewan di SMA Negeri 3 Medan. Sistem implementasi ini dilakukan dalam dua siklus, masing - masing siklus terdiri dari empat tahapan yaitu: perencanaan, tindakan, pengamatan (observation) dan refleksi. Terdapat 13 Kelas XI MIA sebagai populasi penelitian, di mana siswa kelas XI MIA-8 yang berjumlah 42 orang terdiri dari 20 siswa laki-laki dan 22 siswa perempuan sebagai subjek penelitian ini. Analisis data menggunakan teknik deskriptif kuantitatif. Peningkatan hasil belajar siswa  mengalami perubahan yakni 85,71% pada siklus ke I dan 97,62% pada siklus ke II. Kesimpulan dari  hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa adanya peningkatan hasil belajar siswa dan masuk ke dalam kategori tinggi

    Developing The Search, Solve, Create, And Share (SSCS) - Based Student Worksheets In Biology Learning

    The SSCS learning that is collaborated with student worksheets can enhance students more actively in learning because this process can facilitate students in finding and building knowledge to solve problems. The method applied a Research and Development (R&D) adapted from Borg and Gall model. This study was only carried out until the development stage. The results showed that the SSCS-based student worksheets according to material experts containing the aspects of content eligibility of 85.19% with an excellent/eligible category, the presentation eligibility of 85% with an excellent/eligible category, and the SSCS components of 85.26% with an excellent/eligible category. Meanwhile, according to design experts containing the aspects of cover design of 90% with an excellent/eligible category, the cover typography of 100% with an excellent/eligible category, the content design of student worksheet of 87.50 with an excellent/eligible category, and the content illustration of student worksheet of 81.25% with an excellent/eligible category. Based on the teachers’ responses showed an excellent/eligible category, with total score of the teachers’ assessment of 92.17%. The results of students’ responses based on individual tests of 78.13% with an excellent category, small group tests of 78.24% with an excellent category as well as the limited field tests of 81.48% with an excellent category

    The Influence of Learning Style on Science Process Skills and Student Learning Outcome of Digestive System Material

    This study aimed to analyze the learning style on science process skill and learning outcome class XI digestive system in State Senior High School of Kisaran, Asahan. This method applied a descriptive study with a quantitative approach. Samples were taken from four schools, each one class totaling 144 students by using purposive sampling. To obtain the data, the description test was used as a questionnaire to determine student learning styles. The high results are visual with a percentage of 38.19. Then the student science process skills instrument with indicators such as observing, classifying, interpreting, predicting, asking questions, hypothesizing, planning experiments, applying concepts, and communicating in biology learning. The results on science process skills of the digestive system material were categorized as good with a score of 82.06 and the highest indicator for observing obtained a mean score of 86.63.with a very good category and the lowest indicator for applying the concept obtained a score of 79.16 a good category. The learning result test obtained a score of 89,04with a very good category. The high score of C6 was obtained at 91.43. and lowest C5 obtained 72.22

    Development of Authentic Assessment Instruments Through High-Level Botanical Practicums to Improve Science Process Skills

    The Auntentik Assessment Instrument is part of the achievement indicator in obtaining information to measure aspects of student knowledge in the learning process. The measurement process carried out for students in the assessment instrument both individually and in groups consists of three affective, psychomotor and cognitive aspects. Ethnobiological studies are part of the understanding of people's culture regarding the knowledge of plants. Science process skills activities are the implementation of an action carried out by students in practicum learning. The basis of the research objectives is to develop an assessment instrument on a high-level botanical practicum learning tool in measuring students' science process skills and measuring feasibility tests and limited tests of assessment instruments in the implementation of science process skills practicum learning activities. The implementation of the method in the research is a development method. The results of this study consist of three aspects of assessment from expert validation, namely aspects of content validity, presentation aspects and language aspects are declared feasible. Meanwhile, the student's response to the assessment instrument was stated to be good to use as a measuring tool in the assessment of students to carry out a high-level botanical practicum

    Contextual Inquiry Model to Improve Students’ Science Process Skill on Microbiology Lesson

    This study aims to develop the design of contextual inquiry learning model to improve students’ science process skills in microbiology lectures. The design of learning model developed in the form of contextual inquiry learning model. This Research and Development covers three stages of research that are: Needs analysis, Development of contextual inquiry learning model, and Trial of learning design. The research instruments used to collect data consisted of validation sheets by material experts, designers, and linguists, and a description test to measure the skills of the science process. It used descriptive statistics for data analysis. A preliminary study conducted on 40 students attending microbiology lesson indicated the need for microbiology teaching design which applies active learning process based on contextual inquiry. The results of a limited trial of 34 experimental class students and 35 control class students found that the research hypothesis was accepted, which means that contextual inquiry learning model of microbiology enhances students’ process skills higher than conventional method.  Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan desain model pembelajaran inkuiri kontekstual untuk meningkatkan keterampilan proses sains siswa dalam perkuliahan mikrobiologi. Desain model pembelajaran dikembangkan dalam bentuk model pembelajaran inkuiri kontekstual. Penelitian dan Pengembangan ini mencakup tiga tahap penelitian yaitu: Analisis kebutuhan, Pengembangan model pembelajaran inkuiri kontekstual, dan Ujicoba desain pembelajaran. Instrumen penelitian yang digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data terdiri dari kuesioner kepada ahli materi, ahli desain pembelajaran, dan ahli bahasa, serta tes objektif untuk mengukur keterampilan proses sains. Data dianalisis dengan menggunakan statistik deskriptif. Studi pendahuluan yang dilakukan pada 40 mahasiswa yang sedang mengikuti perkuliahan mikrobiologi menunjukkan perlunya desain pembelajaran mikrobiologi dengan menerapkan proses pembelajaran aktif berbasiskan inkuiri kontekstual. Hasil uji coba terbatas terhadap 34 siswa kelas eksperimen dan 35 siswa kelas kontrolditemukan bahwa hipotesis penelitian diterima, yang berarti bahwa model pembelajaran inkuiri kontekstual pada perkuliahan mikrobiologi dapat meningkatkan keterampilan proses mahasiswa lebih tinggi daripada model pembelajaran langsung.

    EFFECT OF PLANT GROWTH REGULATORS ON IN VITRO CALLUS INDUCTION OF SHOOT EXPLANT MANGOSTEEN (GARCINIA MANGOSTANA L.)

    Introduction: The productions of generatively mangosteen still has problem because the seeds of mangosteen have recalcitrant characteristic, which means the seeds must be planted immediately, since the seeds does not have dormancy period. Aim: 1) to determine Effect of Plant Growth Regulators on in vitro Callus Induction of mangosteen (Garcinia mangostana L.), 2) to know the best combination and composition of the media to in vitro callus induction of mangosteen (Garcinia mangostana L.). Method: Researcher used complete randomized design (CRD) factorial which is consisting of 12 treatments with 3 times repetitions. The research procedures were: tool sterilization, explant sterilization, media making, explants planting. Result: The fastest response of callus appearance is on sucrose (15; 30 gr / L) and NAA (1,5; 3 ppm) treatment which is producing callus with crumb texture and color is identical to green and white. The callus has 0,53a cm in height, 1,56a cm2 in width, and 0,40a gr in weight. The percentage of callus formation is 100% and the explant response is growing all over the surface (sucrose 15 gr / L + NAA 1,5; 3 ppm). Conclusion: The plant growth regulators have effect on in vitro callus induction of shoot explant mangosteen (Garcinia mangostana L.). The best media combination and composition on in vitro callus induction of shoot explant mangosteen (Garcinia mangostana L.) were sucrose (15; 30 gr / L) and NAA (1,5; 3 ppm)

    An Analysis of Students’ Learning Styles on Microbiology Lectures in the New Normal Era

    The aim of this study was to analyze the learning styles on microbiology lectures for students in the new normal era. This study was a non-experimental with quantitative data. The population were all the third semester students majoring in Biology, Universitas Negeri Medan who studied microbiology consisting of 6 classes totaling 180 people. The sample consisted of 3 classes of 60 people who were taken randomly using random sampling technique. The data analysis technique was carried out using inferential statistics. The results showed that students’ visual learning style obtained 71%, audio learning style obtained 64% in the good category and kinesthetic learning style obtained 63% were all in the good category. Of the three learning styles, the highest percentage was found in the visual learning style

    ISSR based analysis of genetic variability of plantlets culture of pineapple (Ananas comosus L.) from Sipahutar, North Sumatera, Indonesia

    Sipahutar pineapple is very popular in North Sumatra, because of the distinctive sweet taste and normal water content. Furthermore, it is large in size and has a yellow fruit skin color with greenish tips. However, the problem with Sipahutar pineapple production is the limited amount of good quality seeds. The utilization of in vitro culture techniques on pineapples allows the emergence of somaclonal variations, especially in plantlets that have undergone the subculture stage. This somaclonal variation is one of the problems in commercial seedling production, therefore, it is necessary to conduct an initial examination using the inter simple sequence repeat (ISSR) molecular marker. This study aimed to determine the genetic and primary stability of ISSR, which can be used in pineapple plants native to Sipahutar. The methods used include sample preparation, DNA isolation, primer optimization, ISSR primer amplification by PCR method, and electrophoresis. Furthermore, a total of 15 samples were amplified with six ISSR primers, and the data were analyzed by cluster method using the NTSYS-PC software. The final result was visualized in a dendrogram and analysis of diversity was conducted using GenAlex. The results showed that the level of genetic variability of the Sipahutar pineapple, which has undergone in vitro culture using six ISSR molecular markers was 76-97%. Meanwhile, the genetic variability level of the native to Sipahutar pineapple can be influenced by the long culture period and the use of N6-benzyladenine. The primers can be used to observe the genetic variability, except for ISSR 25 with a PIC value of 0.000

    Pengaruh Penggunaan Media TIK Terhadap Retensi Memori Biologi Siswa Kelas XII SMA

    Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh penggunaan animasi dan video pada retensi memori biologi kelas XII siswa dari SMA 6 Medan. Penelitian ini merupakan rancangan penelitian quasi-eksperimen dengan desain kelompok kontrol posttest dan pretest. Populasi penelitian adalah siswa kelas XII SMAN 6 program IPA sebanyak 3 kelas. Instrumen penelitian menggunakan tes prestasi yang terdiri dari 35 pertanyaan pilihan ganda terdiri dari C1 kognitif - C6 yang telah diuji untuk keandalan dan validitasnya. Memori siswa hasil tes retensi diperoleh dari penelitian setelah 21 hari dari materi lengkap diajarkan. Hipotesis retensi memori siswa dianalisis whith metode anakova oleh windows. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan ada pengaruh yang sangat signifikan pada media TIK pada retensi memori media TIK SMAN 6 mahasiswa di topik bioteknologi (F = 23,683, P = 0,000). Hasil uji Tukey menunjukkan memori retensi biologi siswa SMA 6 Medan, yang dilakukan melalui dengan menggunakan media video yang lebih tinggi daripada dianggap oleh animasi dan Charta (P = 0,000 <0,001)
