    Effectiveness of scapular mobilization to reduce shoulder pain among the patients with Spinal Cord Injury

    Background: Patients with Spinal Cord Injury often experience debilitating shoulder pain. This study investigates the effectiveness of scapular mobilization as a potential intervention to alleviate this pain and enhance the quality of life for these individuals.Objectives: The objectives were to identify the effectiveness of scapular mobilization in reducing shoulder pain among patients with spinal cord injury. Methodology:Pretest and posttest designs were used to conduct this study. 16 participants were selected according to inclusion criteria. The 'VAS' and 'Goniometer' were used to assess the shoulder pain and joint range of motion (ROM). Analysis was done through SPSS v22. To analyze the pre-post test data, the Wilcoxon signed-rank test was used. Result: Among 16 participants, the mean age was 27.69 with a standard deviation of ±11.5, median 27, mode 18, maximum age 52, minimum age 13. Male participants were predominantly higher than female participants. Out of the 16 participants, 93.8% (n=15) were male, and 6.3% (n=1) were female. Among them, 50% (n=8) of the participants were caused to fall from a height, 37% (n=6) were caused by a road traffic accident, and 12.5% (n=2) were caused by heavy objects falling on them. The most significant neurological level was T12, with a percentage of 31.3%, while 25% were at L1, and 12.4% were at T7 and T11, respectively. The right-sided shoulder joint was affected in 43.75% of cases, the left-sided in 31.25%, and 25% were affected on both sides. In the statistical analysis, there was a significant improvement in shoulder pain reduction, shoulder flexion, and extension.Conclusion:Overall, this dissertation showed that scapular mobilization was more dominant than only conventional physiotherapy in reducing shoulder pain and improving shoulder movement

    Impact of Continuous Professional Education on Leadership for Rehabilitation Professionals in Bangladesh: A Pilot Study

    Background: In healthcare and rehabilitation profession, continuous professional education (CPE) is deemed as an essential tool by institutions, regulatory bodies and organizations. It is considered to be a safeguard to professional practice to ensure patient safety and efficient service delivery. Leadership program is an emerging subject that integrates technical, management and leadership skill that found indispensable to enhance ultimate professional development. Objective: The purpose of this article is to explore the potential impact of CPE on leadership training for rehabilitation professionals in Bangladesh. Methodology: This pilot study was a mixed methods study. 20 rehabilitation professionals participated in the study. Quantitative data were collected by structured questionnaire and qualitative data were obtained by face to face video recording interviews. Quantitative data were analyzed by Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS)   and thematic analysis was considered for qualitative data. Result: Study findings showed that 95% of the participants (n=19) were in their 2nd to 3rd decade of life, there mean age were 26 and male participation (n=12) were higher than female (n=8). Highest academic qualification was master’s degree and none of the participants attended leadership training before. Overall objective, planning and atmosphere of the training course, quality of trainers and time management seemed effective and satisfactory to the participants they agreed with. Leadership qualities and elements have profound impacts on knowledge and attitude towards positivity in performing professional duties and Responsibilities. The training also enhances motivation to be a skilled professional in clinical practice, also encourages serving with outmost excellence towards patients or clients. Conclusion: The study demonstrates that education on leadership to professionals have an impact on motivation and positivity towards developing technical, management and professional skills. The study may have impact on developing diverse qualities of a professional in personal and organizational perspective; this can be explored by continuing education on leadership and evaluation of the behavioral changes, professional and management skills in rehabilitation professionals’ serving in an organization in longer run

    Landsat-7 ETM+ Radiometric Calibration Status

    Now in its 17th year of operation, the Enhanced Thematic Mapper + (ETM+), on board the Landsat-7 satellite, continues to systematically acquire imagery of the Earth to add to the 40+ year archive of Landsat data. Characterization of the ETM+ on-orbit radiometric performance has been on-going since its launch in 1999. The radiometric calibration of the reflective bands is still monitored using on-board calibration devices, though the Pseudo-Invariant Calibration Sites (PICS) method has proven to be an effect tool as well. The calibration gains were updated in April 2013 based primarily on PICS results, which corrected for a change of as much as -0.2%/year degradation in the worst case bands. A new comparison with the SADE database of PICS results indicates no additional degradation in the updated calibration. PICS data are still being tracked though the recent trends are not well understood. The thermal band calibration was updated last in October 2013 based on a continued calibration effort by NASA/Jet Propulsion Lab and Rochester Institute of Technology. The update accounted for a 0.31 W/sq m/ sr/micron bias error. The updated lifetime trend is now stable to within + 0.4K

    Disease Burden of Stroke in Bangladesh from 2015 to 2023 in Patients Receiving Rehabilitation: A Protocol for a Retrospective Cohort Study

    Background: Stroke is a serious public health concern that has a significant impact on the global disease burden. It has significant social, economic, and healthcare consequences worldwide. To assess the total number of healthy years lost due to premature death and disability-related limitations, the World Health Organization (WHO) developed the disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) measure. Methods: We will conduct a retrospective cohort study and include all stroke patients who received rehabilitation services at the Centre for Rehabilitation of Paralysed (CRP) in Bangladesh from 2015 to 2019. Relevant data will be extracted from The CRP PDMS database, which includes data for 1835 patients and covers all divisions of Bangladesh. The primary outcome will be to calculate the disease burden of stroke by using DALYs, the level of disability, and the reason for the mortality rate in Bangladesh. Demographic characteristics and study outcomes will be summarised using descriptive statistics, Inferential statistics will be conducted, employing Pearson correlation for parametric data and either chi-square or Spearman rank correlation for nonparametric data. Multivariable logistic regression will be performed to determine the clinical variables associated with a worse clinical outcome. Ethics and dissemination: The study was approved by the Institute of Physiotherapy, Rehabilitation & Research (IPRR) (The Academic Institute of Bangladesh Physiotherapy Association) Ethics Committee (BPAIPRR/IRB/992/07/2023/663). The study's results will be published in peer-reviewed scientific journals and showcased at national and international conferences. Study Implication: Stroke is one of the major causes of prolonged disability. The prolongation of disease and disability leads to health-related, social and economic burdens. Usually, it's difficult to determine by the person and family level about the disease burden. On the other hand, the severity of stroke and post-stroke complications can be prevented by avoiding the risk factors. So, the study of finding the disease burden of stroke and the result of the implemented protocol of stroke can guide the management and awareness of prevention

    Knowledge, attitudes, and fear of COVID-19 during the Rapid Rise Period in Bangladesh

    The study aims to determine the level of Knowledge, Attitude, and Practice (KAP) related to COVID-19 preventive health habits and perception of fear towards COVID-19 in subjects living in Bangladesh. Design: Prospective, cross-sectional survey of (n = 2157) male and female subjects, 13–88 years of age, living in Bangladesh. Methods: Ethical approval and trial registration were obtained before the commencement of the study. Subjects who volunteered to participate and signed the informed consent were enrolled in the study and completed the structured questionnaire on KAP and Fear of COVID-19 scale (FCV-19S). Results: Twenty-eight percent (28.69%) of subjects reported one or more COVID-19 symptoms, and 21.4% of subjects reported one or more co-morbidities. Knowledge scores were slightly higher in males (8.75± 1.58) than females (8.66± 1.70). Knowledge was significantly correlated with age (p < .005), an education level (p < .001), attitude (p < .001), and urban location (p < .001). Knowledge scores showed an inverse correlation with fear scores (p < .001). Eighty-three percent (83.7%) of subjects with COVID-19 symptoms reported wearing a mask in public, and 75.4% of subjects reported staying away from crowded places. Subjects with one or more symptoms reported higher fear compared to subjects without (18.73± 4.6; 18.45± 5.1). Conclusion: Bangladeshis reported a high prevalence of self-isolation, positive preventive health behaviors related to COVID-19, and moderate to high fear levels. Higher knowledge and Practice were found in males, higher education levels, older age, and urban location. Fear of COVID-19 was more prevalent in female and elderly subjects. A positive attitude was reported for the majority of subjects, reflecting the belief that COVID-19 was controllable and containable

    Genotypic Variation in Physiological Quality of Fresh Cotton Seed

    Quality seed is essential to increase cotton production in Bangladesh. For this, 43 cotton genotypes were evaluated to identify better inherent physiological seed quality. The experiment was set up at the Seed Science and Technology Unit Laboratory of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University, Gazipur, Bangladesh in May, 2009. The results showed great variation exists in seed index, seed germination percentage, electrical conductivity and seedling vigour of studied cotton genotypes. Frequency distribution suggested the majority number of the genotypes had higher values of germination percentage and seedling vigour. Electrical conductivity (EC) test of seed leachate provides the status of seed quality. The highest EC of seed leachate found in&nbsp; genotypes BC-0434 and BC-0432 ensuing of weak membrane while the lowest EC of seed leachate was recorded in genotype BC-0125. Cluster analysis grouped the genotypes into five distinct groups which categorized into (i) low, (ii) medium low, (iii) medium, (iν) medium high and (ν) high vigour. The genotypes BC-051, BC-0197, BC-0432, BC-0438 and BC-0252 in cluster V showed the highest germination percentage (96.20%) with the highest seedling vigour index (5064). Therefore, these genotypes could be used for genetic improvement of cotton considering higher yield with better seed quality

    Super-Adsorptive Biodegradable Hydrogel from Simply Treated Sugarcane Bagasse

    There is a great demand for biodegradable hydrogel, and cellulose enriched wastes materials are widely used to serve this purpose for various advance applications (e.g., biomedical and environmental). Sugarcane bagasse is cellulose-enriched agro-waste, abundantly grown in Bangladesh. This study aimed to treat sugarcane bagasse-based agro-waste using a sustainable and ecofriendly approach to produce hydrogel with super-swelling capacity for adsorption of copper, chromium, iron ions, methylene blue and drimaren red dyes. To increase the swelling property of hydrogels, copolymerization of hydrophilic monomers is an effective technique. Therefore, this study aimed to prepare hydrogel via free radical graft-copolymerization reaction among acrylamide, methyl methacrylate and treated bagasse in the presence of N,N-methylene-bis-acrylamide as a crosslinker and potassium persulphate as an initiator. To obtain maximum yield, reaction conditions were optimized. It was found that hydrogel obtained from chemically treated sugarcane bagasse showed maximum water absorption capacity of 228.0 g/g, whereas untreated bagassebased hydrogel could absorb similar to 50 g/g of water. Maximum adsorption capacity of 247.0 mg/g was found for copper ion. In addition, organic pollutant removal from industrial effluent also showed good performance, removing &gt;90% of methylene blue and 62% of drimaren red dye, with shorter kinetics. The biodegradability study showed that after 90 days of exposure, the hydrogels degraded to about 43% of their own mass. Therefore, the produced hydrogel could be an alternative adsorbent to remove pollutants and also for other potential applications
