From Practical to On-Line Learning: Leadership Style on Virtual Exhibition
The global Covid-19 pandemic has shifted the education system and pushed its boundaries on the delivery of instruction. Educators are forced to change and adapt the new system which involves non face-to-face interaction thus disrupted the method of delivery especially for the practical subject. This research focused on the leadership style for a virtual exhibition project. 81 participants were involved for this research. A quantitative approach was used as a method for data collection where questionnaires were distributed to the participants to analyse the leadership style of the group leaders. An Analyzing on Statistical Data Analysis Skill Needs Among Graduates
The skill of analyzing statistical data is a skill that uses quantitative or numerical methods. The need for a systematic research process usually requires a foundation of quantitative skills even if little other than its importance in the realm of future employment and important knowledge for every student, especially for those who conduct research scientifically. Creative arts students are students who venture into the field of arts and creative studies who mostly use qualitative methods in their research. Yet is there a need for systematic statistical data analysis skills in the scope of their study? Therefore, to answer this question, this study examines the need for data analysis skills among creative arts students. A total of 102 sets of questionnaires were distributed to undergraduate students from various programs of the Faculty of Applied and Creative Arts UNIMAS. Descriptive analysis was used to analyze the questionnaire data using Statistical Package for the Social Science (SPSS) version 26.0. Overall finding showed that statistical data analysis skills are very necessary among creative arts students
Enhancing Arts Teaching and Learning Through Mooc
This project is a collaborative effort by a group of Faculty of Applied and Creative Arts lecturers whom were involved in a MOOC project titled Application of ICT in Applied and Creative Arts. The objectives of this present project are twofold. First, it strives to identify problems rendered by using MOOC in the process of teaching and learning arts courses. Secondly, to enhance the use of MOOC by proposing solutions to the problems. Throughout the implementation of our MOOC project, it was found that while we were able to assess students’ understanding of the theoretical part of the project through quizzes, essays and polls, it was rather difficult to observe their overall process of completion such as drawing techniques, lighting set-ups for video production, reading notes and playing musical
instruments, character design and other crucial elements that needs to be assessed
Clarifying the Misconceptions about Islamic Restrictions on Entertainment and Performing Arts in Malaysia
Background: Muslims as a community have had issues and debates whether
entertainment and Performing Arts are permissible in Islam. While some orthodox
Muslims today totally ban any type of Performing Arts, claiming it’s haram (forbidden)
and shun themselves, others have argued that Muslims are allowed to have some
entertainment with some guideline from the Holy Quran and Hadith (words from
Prophet Muhammad passed down). This paper was part of a project/research to see how
the Muslim community misunderstood this issue with arguments from the Quran and
Hadith. It is hoped that this research will contribute to the political debate and
confusion on the subject in Malaysia and the country’s arts and culture policy. Whilst
the study is focused on Malaysia, the study also hopes to foster a better understanding
between non-Muslim and Muslim communities globally. Objective: The main
objective of this research is to look at how Muslims misinterpreted passages from the
Quran, while debating whether entertainment and Performing Arts is allowed in Islam
or not. The second objective is to show examples how a moderate Muslim should
assimilate with non-Muslim to foster more understanding and respect towards different
religions. Results: In Malaysia, orthodox Muslims through the political Islamic party
has managed to influence moderate Muslims to follow “their Muslim way” of practice.
However, in recent years, Muslims in Malaysia through their scholars known as Ulama
opened up on the discussion and debate towards this issue. In return, most of these
scholars believed that Islam allows entertainment and Performing Arts as long as the
guidelines in the Quran are followed. Conclusion: Islam allows entertainment with
several historical incident were recorded in Hadith. However in Malaysia, Muslims
scholars were divided into 2 different school of taught thus making them express this
issue in different views. Muslim Sunnis which consist of more than 80% of the
population Muslim community around the world including Malaysia are the most
tolerance with many of them became scholars in various areas including entertainment
business and Performing Arts
Race, Cultural, Political and Religious impact towards policies on Theatre and Film Production in Malaysia
Government policies in Malaysia have long supported a strategy of racial discrimination promoting the interests of Malays over the minority Chinese and Indian ethnic groups. An important aspect of this problem is the repressive government control over cultural and creative production in the country to promote its political agenda of Malay dominance. Many studies have suggested that these biased and authoritarian current policies have stymied the growth of creative industries and cultural practices in the country. This study intends to explore the effects of government policy on creativity in film and theatre production in Peninsular Malaysia. It also examines the ramifications of the nexus between government control and film/theatre production on multiculturalism in the country today
