    A New Concept of Transonic Galactic Outflows in a Cold Dark Matter Halo with a Central Super-Massive Black Hole

    We study fundamental properties of isothermal, steady and spherically symmetric galactic outflow in the gravitational potential of a cold dark matter halo and a central super-massive black hole. We find that there are two transonic solutions having different properties: each solution is mainly produced by the dark matter halo and the super-massive black hole, respectively. Furthermore, we apply our model to the Sombrero galaxy. In this galaxy, Chandra X-ray observatory detected the diffuse hot gas as the trace of galactic outflows while the star-formation rate is low and the observed gas density distribution presumably indicates the hydrostatic equilibrium. To solve this discrepancy, we propose a solution that this galaxy has a transonic outflow, however, the transonic point forms in a very distant region from the galactic center (?∌\sim 127 kpc). In this slowly accelerated transonic outflow, the outflow velocity is less than the sound velocity for most of the galactic halo. Since the gas density distribution in this subsonic region is similar to the hydrostatic one, it is difficult to distinguish the wide subsonic region from hydrostatic state.     On the little known species of threadfin breams Nemipterus mesoprion (Bleeker) and Nemipterus delagoae (Smith)

    Among the fish species of the family Nemipteridae, the two little known species, namely, Nemipterus mesoprion (Bleeker) and Nemipterus delagoae (Smith) are recorded from the Cochin waters. Nemipterus mesoprion is a new distributional record from the west coast of India. N. delagoae is described with adequate numbers of specimen for the first time from Indian waters. Moreover, the results of the present study show that the colour of the viscera, the number of pyloric caeca and the gill rakers can also be used for the diagnosis of the species of the genus Nemipterus. The affinity of the above species with other related species of the genus Nemipterus and their geographical distribution are presented

    HRM formality differences in Pakistani SMEs: a three-sector comparative study

    Purpose Guided by institutional theory, this empirical paper examines variations in the adoption of HRM practices among SMEs in three different business sectors (services, manufacturing and trade). Design/methodology/approach Data from 300 owners/managers representing three business sectors were collected through a survey method. Findings The results suggest that service SMEs use more formal HRM practices than manufacturing and trade SMEs. Manufacturing SMEs are more formal than trade firms. Results are not affected by firm age. Research limitations/implications Social desirability bias may have influenced respondents into portraying a positive image of the organization by inflating HRM sophistication. A further limitation is that the performance of the firms was not measured. As such, it is not possible to judge whether greater HRM formality correlated with improved organizational performance. Practical implications This study shows how the business sector shapes HRM practices in Pakistani SMEs. Findings help to inform Pakistan's Small and Medium Enterprise Development Authority (SMEDA) in dealings with manufacturing and trade firms in terms of improving HRM practices. Originality/value Given the important role of SMEs in economic development, comparative research on HRM in SME contexts is scarce. Since SMEs are vital for Pakistan's economy, an improved understanding of the sector's approach to human resource development is important. The findings extend the boundaries of prior comparative HRM literature in SMEs by addressing sector influences while controlling for contextual factors

    Utilization of PVC Particles to Improve the Bending Properties of Epoxy and Unsaturated Polyester

    Two sets of polymeric composites were formed. The first set included epoxy as matrix ,while the second set included unsaturated polyester (UP) as matrix. The two sets were reinforced with Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) at  different volume fractions. Each set was formed into two groups: one was allowed to cure at room temperature and the other was post cured at 40°C for 4hr . The percent of reinforcing and the curing temperature can affect the  behavior of composites. The epoxy composites is the highest in flexural properties than unsaturated polyester composites after reinforcing with thermoplastic material (PVC) .     Direct laryngoscopy and endotracheal intubation during anaesthesia and cutting, stretching and tissue manipulation during surgery is the most painful time for a patient undergoing surgery. The elicited pain during a surgical procedure is associated with significant hemodynamic changes including rise in blood pressure, heart rate, sweating, pupillary dilatation etc. These hemodynamic changes are not desirable and may produce deleterious effects in patients with hypertension, ischemic heart disease and cerebro-vascular disease and impose a great challenge for anaesthesiologist to maintain physiologic homeostasis during these periods of stress. Opioids are considered to be the corner stone in the management of intraoperative and postoperative pain, morphine being the gold standard .     E-resources play a major role in current educational scenario. Most of the institutions have been shifting their all type of resources / data into e resources. Reason of technological up-gradation the students’ community is having facilities to access e resources in any time at any places. Researcher focuses on the usage of e-resources by students of central university of Tamil Nadu. It is one of the leading universities in Tamil Nadu which has successfully maintained e-resources in their campus in order to benefit their students. The main objective of the paper is to analysis the impact of ICT knowledge, Library Infrastructure facilities and Motivational factors on Students’ usage of E-resources. For this purpose, researcher has collected 110 questionnaires from the students. The data was collected using systematic random sampling method. Tool is validated through Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) is used to analysis the data. The major findings are ICT knowledge of student is the main source to increase the usage of e-resources and professors & Library staff members are the major motivator to boost the usage of e-resources of student. So, library members and Professors may conduct various seminars and workshops in order to enhance the ICT knowledge of students

    Stochastic method for in-situ damage analysis

    Based on the physics of stochastic processes we present a new approach for structural health monitoring. We show that the new method allows for an in-situ analysis of the elastic features of a mechanical structure even for realistic excitations with correlated noise as it appears in real-world situations. In particular an experimental set-up of undamaged and damaged beam structures was exposed to a noisy excitation under turbulent wind conditions. The method of reconstructing stochastic equations from measured data has been extended to realistic noisy excitations like those given here. In our analysis the deterministic part is separated from the stochastic dynamics of the system and we show that the slope of the deterministic part, which is linked to mechanical features of the material, changes sensitively with increasing damage. The results are more significant than corresponding changes in eigenfrequencies, as commonly used for structural health monitoring.Comment: This paper is accepted by European Physical Journal B on November 2. 2012. 5 pages, 5 figures, 1 tabl

    A nonsense (c.3978G>A) abnormal spindle-like, microcephaly associated (ASPM) gene mutation is a major cause of primary microcephaly in Pashtoon ethnic group of Pakistan

    Primary microcephaly (MCPH) is an autosomal-recessive congenital disorder characterized by smallerthan- normal brain size and mental retardation. MCPH is genetically heterogeneous with six known loci: MCPH1 to MCPH7. The abnormal spindle-like, microcephaly associated (ASPM) gene at MCPH5 locus, which accounts for 37 to 54% of MCPH, appears to be the most common cause of microcephaly. More than 50% of the MCPH families genetically analyzed in Pakistan were mapped to MCPH5 locus including both families in this study. On mutation screening of ASPM gene by PCR amplification and direct DNA sequencing, a common c.3978G>A transition was identified in exon 17 of ASPM gene to be responsible for diseased phenotype in both families. This change results to the substitution of an amino acid residue at position 1326 from tryptophan to a stop codon (p.Trp1326Stop). The same mutation was also identified in several other families of Pakistani origin. Since the disease is both clinically and genetically heterogeneous, the diagnosis of MCPH1–7 is based on clinical findings; brain imaging that shows reduced brain volume with grossly normal architecture, family history consistent with autosomal recessive inheritance and molecular genetic testing when available. The mapping of large number of families to MCPH5 locus and identification of a common mutation, that is, c. 3978A>G of ASPM gene will enable us to formulate future strategies to control and prevent the disease by genetic counseling, prenatal/postnatal diagnosis and carrier testing.Key words: Primary microcephaly (MCPH), abnormal spindle-like, microcephaly associated (ASPM) mutations, microcephaly, Pakistani familie

    Benign Osteoblastoma Involving Maxilla: A Case Report and Review of the Literature

    Background. Osteoblastoma is a rare benign tumor. This tumor is characterized by osteoid and bone formation with the presence of numerous osteoblasts. The lesion is more frequently seen in long bones and rarely involves maxilla and mandible. Due to its clinical and histological similarity with other bone tumors such as osteoid osteoma and fibro-osseous lesions, osteoblastoma presents a diagnostic dilemma. Case Report. Very few cases of osteoblastomas involving maxillofacial region have been reported in the literature. This case report involves osteoblastoma involving right maxilla in an 18-year-old male patient. Following detailed clinical examination, radiological interpretation, and histopathological diagnosis, surgical excision was performed. The patient was followed up for a period of 3 years and was disease free. Summary and Conclusion. Benign osteoblastoma involving jaw bones is a rare tumor. There is a close resemblance of this tumor with other lesions such as fibro-osseous lesions and odontogenic tumors and thus faces a diagnostic challenge.
