Challenges of Teaching Science to Address Global Sustainability

For a liveable condition in this post- industrial era, it would depend on our ability to understand and use the science and technology advancement in a responsible manner. Water pollution and global warming phenomena are outcomes of scientific and technological advancement that has been mismanaged. One way to achieve global sustainability is through science education and the development of a scientific literate citizen. This paper, based on the literature and research work in science education in Malaysia, outlines how scientific literate citizen can address global sustainability, assess the level of scientific literate of Malaysian students and discuss the challenges in teaching science to develop scientific literacy and hence global sustainability

Surabaya Mengenai Pesan Iklan Indomie My Noodlez di Televisi. Sikap Masyarakat Surabaya dilihat dari aspek kognitif, afektif, dan konatif yang dilakukan melalui elemen-elemen pesan iklan yaitu isi pesan, sumber pesan, struktur pesan dan format pesan (Kotler, 2003, p. 248-255). Sikap seseorang terhadap suatu objek dianggap sangat penting karena sikap merupakan kecenderungan seseorang untuk bereaksi secara positif ataupun negatif terhadap suatu objek, seseorang, maupun keadaan (Azwar, 2015, p. 5).Pendekatan dalam penelitian ini adalah kuantitatif, dengan jenis penelitian deskriptif. Metode yang digunakan di dalam penelitian ini adalah metode survey dengan menggunakan teknik penyebaran kuisioner dan wawancara. Responden dalam penelitian ini berjumlah 100 orang, yang didapatkan dari perhitungan jumlah sampel yang disebarkan di seluruh wilayah Surabaya dengan menggunakan teknik non probabilitas purposive sampling. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa sikap Masyarakat Surabaya mengenai pesan iklan Indomie My Noodlez di Televisi positif dalam ketiga komponen sikap kognitif, afektif dan konatif. Dalam aspek kognitif menunjukkan hasil 4,29 positif, aspek afektif 4,18 positif, dan aspek konatif 3,68 positif. Hal tersebut menunjukkan bahwa sebagian besar masyarakat Surabaya mengetahui pesan yang disampaikan di dalam iklan Indomie My Noodlez, menyukai pesan iklan tersebut, serta cenderung mengikuti atau melakukan pembelian setelah melihat pesan yang disampaikan di dalam iklan tersebut

Studi Perubahan Garis Pantai dengan Pendekatan Penginderaan Jauh di Wilayah Pesisir Kecamatan Soropia

Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di sepanjang garis pantai Kecamatan Soropia selama satu bulan yaitu pada bulan Oktober 2014 dengan tujuan untuk mengetahui dan memetakan Perubahan garis pantai di wilayah pesisir Kecamatan Soropia. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode tumpang susun citra satelit Landsat 5 TM tahun 1990, 7 ETM+ tahun 2002 dan 8 OLI/TIRS tahun 2014. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa secara umum Perubahan garis pantai yang terjadi disepanjang wilayah pesisir Kecamatan Soropia pada tahun 1990 – 2014 (24 tahun) berupa akresi dan abrasi. Perubahan garis pantai tipe akresi terjadi di Desa Sorue Jaya, Tapulaga, Leppe, Bajo Indah, Mekar, Bajoe, Bokori, Telaga Biru, Atowatu, Sawapudo, Soropia, Waworaha dan Kelurahan Toronipa. Perubahan garis pantai tipe abrasi terjadi di Desa Sorue Jaya, Tapulaga, Bajoe, Bokori, Telaga Biru, Atowatu, Sawapudo, Soropia, Waworaha dan Kelurahan Toronipa. Perubahan garis pantai yang terjadi di Kecamatan Soropia diduga disebabkan oleh perbedaan karakteristik pantai (faktor alam) yang bersifat semi terbuka terhadap dinamika perairan yang mendapatkan pengaruh dari gelombang secara langsung. Disamping karakteristik pantai, Perubahan garis pantai di Kecamatan Soropia juga diduga disebabkan oleh aktifitas manusia yang melakukan penimbunan pantai untuk keperluan pemukiman, pariwisata, pelabuhan dan pembuatan bangunan pelindung pantai (faktor antropogenik)

E-Waste: Current Research and Future Perspective on Developing Countries

Increase of population, purchasing power, and development of technology give consequence to Waste of Electronic and Electrical Equipment (WEEE) or e-waste generation. Increasing rate of e-waste production and its hazardous content raise the concern regarding e-waste. This paper aims to describe the research development on e-waste in various countries and propose the perspective of future research. The study based on literature survey in open access journals using ‘e-waste’ as the keyword. Article selection was done by considering the reputability of the source and cited frequency. From the articles reviewed, China contributed to most of the researches. Some of most studied topic namely e-waste management, e-waste impact to human health and environment and current status of e-waste treatment in specific country. Brief explanation on each topic and insight on future research are also provided.

Critical Thinking Process in Science Learning

Critical thinking is seen as an important competency for academic and career success. In the context of science education, critical thinking is important in order to be an effective citizen in the globalized world powered by rapid scientific and technological development. This paper begins by reviewing the literature on what is science (knowledge and practices), and why critical thinking is important in science learning. The paper then draws on a few studies to demonstrate that critical thinking has two main components knowledge and skills. Also on how to develop components of critical thinking skills effectively. This paper also argues that critical thiking process can only be critical when it is developed with scientific attitude

Analisis Tingkat Kinerja Guru Tetap Yayasan Dan Guru Tidak Tetap Di Smk Swasta Se-kota Malang

This study is based on the differences in rights received from permanent teacher and non-permanent teacher, such like teaching hours, benefits received, certification rights from government, and other incentives. So based on the background, the purpose of this research to identify and analyze differences in performance level of permanent teachers and non-permanent teachers at The Private Vocational High School in Malang City. The population on this research is all of Private Vocational High School in Malang City which amounted to 40 schools. The sample of this research is 10 schools, which each school will be represented by 5 permanent teachers and 5 non-permanent teachers. The total of each sample are 50 permanent teachers and 50 non-permanent teachers. This research uses questionnaire and quick interview method. This research’s data analysis is Chi-square statistics. The results showed that there was no difference in performance between permanent teacher and non-permanent teacher on Private Vocational High School in Malang City.Penelitian ini berlatar belakang dari adanya perbedaan hak yang diterima dari Guru Tetap Yayasan (GTY) dan Guru Tidak Tetap (GTT), mulai dari jam mengajar, tunjangan yang diterima, hak mengikuti sertifikasi, dan insentif lainnya. Berdasarkan kondisi tersebut, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi dan menganalisis perbedaan tingkat kinerja para GTY dan GTT di SMK Swasta se-Kota Malang. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah seluruh SMK Swasta se-Kota Malang yang berjumlah 40 sekolah. Sampel dari penelitian ini adalah 10 sekolah, masing-masing sekolah akan diwakili 5 GTY dan 5 GTT sehingga total masing-masing sampel adalah 50 GTY dan 50 GTT. Penelitian ini menggunakan teknik pengumpulan data kuesioner dan wawancara singkat dengan informan. Analisis data dalam penelitian ini menggunakan teknik statistik Chi-square. Hasil Penelitian menunjukan bahwa tidak ada perbedaan kinerja antara GTY dan GTT di SMK Swasta se-Kota Malang

In creating a competent worker takes the right steps to develop existing their competencies. Measurement with behavior-based interview (BBI) is one way that can be recommended to the company in order to identify the competencies of workers. Method of data collection in this research using interviews, observations, and discussions with management. The results is an overview of the process to making of guidelines for interview BBI especially non-technical competencies. In general, the things that need to be prepared is to understand the competency dictionary, how to reduce the question of the competence of the company's competency dictionary, and the need for skills such as probing interviews, parafrashing, and others.&nbsp
