Distinguished non-Archimedean representations
For a symmetric space (G,H), one is interested in understanding the vector
space of H-invariant linear forms on a representation \pi of G. In particular
an important question is whether or not the dimension of this space is bounded
by one. We cover the known results for the pair (G=R_{E/F}GL(n),H=GL(n)), and
then discuss the corresponding SL(n) case. In this paper, we show that
(G=R_{E/F}SL(n),H=SL(n)) is a Gelfand pair when n is odd. When is even, the
space of H-invariant forms on \pi can have dimension more than one even when
\pi is supercuspidal. The latter work is joint with Dipendra Prasad
A core genetic module : the Mixed Feedback Loop
The so-called Mixed Feedback Loop (MFL) is a small two-gene network where
protein A regulates the transcription of protein B and the two proteins form a
heterodimer. It has been found to be statistically over-represented in
statistical analyses of gene and protein interaction databases and to lie at
the core of several computer-generated genetic networks. Here, we propose and
mathematically study a model of the MFL and show that, by itself, it can serve
both as a bistable switch and as a clock (an oscillator) depending on kinetic
parameters. The MFL phase diagram as well as a detailed description of the
nonlinear oscillation regime are presented and some biological examples are
discussed. The results emphasize the role of protein interactions in the
function of genetic modules and the usefulness of modelling RNA dynamics
explicitly.Comment: To be published in Physical Review
Global Persistence in Directed Percolation
We consider a directed percolation process at its critical point. The
probability that the deviation of the global order parameter with respect to
its average has not changed its sign between 0 and t decays with t as a power
law. In space dimensions d<4 the global persistence exponent theta_p that
characterizes this decay is theta_p=2 while for d<4 its value is increased to
first order in epsilon = 4-d. Combining a method developed by Majumdar and Sire
with renormalization group techniques we compute the correction to theta_p to
first order in epsilon. The global persistence exponent is found to be a new
and independent exponent. We finally compare our results with existing
simulations.Comment: 15 pages, LaTeX, one .eps figure include
Analisis Perbedaan Response TIME Perawat Terhadap Pelayanan Gawat Darurat Di Unit Gawat Darurat Di RSU Gmim Pancaran Kasih Dan Di RSU Tk.iii Robert Wolter Monginsidi Kota Manado
:. Emergency room visits can happen to anyone, anytime, and anywhere, this condition requires the readiness of health workers to anticipate events. Management of the state of emergency aid in these areas is still very worrying. Many mortality that occurs in people who should be prevented if we have a concern about the issue. One indicator of the success of the medical countermeasures that speed to provide relief. Response time is the time between the surface demand response or the response time is ≤ 5 minutes. The purpose of this study to analyze differences in response time to emergency care nurses in the emergency department at the General Hospital GMIM Pancaran Kasih and in the General Hospital TK III Robert Wolter Monginsisdi Manado. Research Designe in this research is observational analytic using cross sectional design. Samples were taken by purposive sampling technique totaling 30 respondents. Results using the Mann-Whitney test was obtained p value = 0.011 smaller than α = 0.05. The conclusion of this study is, There are significant differences between the response time nurse in the handling of emergency patients at the Emergency Unit of the General Hospital GMIM Pancaran Kasih and General Hospital TK.III Robert Wolter Monginsidi Manado. Suggestions hoped this research can be used for the development of further research to researchers - researchers who are interested to develop research within the scope of the same, namely in the field of emergency nursin
Sifat Fisis Dan Keawetan Alami Kayu Pengkih Terhadap Serangan Rayap Tanah (Macrotermes Gilvus)
Availability of wood species from natural forest that commonly used for building contructions, meuble, craft and industrial materials nowadays is increasingly limited and not balanced with increasing the needs of wood. To fulfill the needs should be used the species of wood that easily obtained, such as the species that are less well known from natural forest or cultivated by people. The purpose of this research is to evaluate the physical propersties and natural durability of pengkih wood towards termite attack. These physical properties testing is based on the ASTM D 143-94 standard with three replications in each sample. These natural durability of wood testing based on the SNI 01-7207-2006 standard with four replications in each sample. Based on the results of this research pengkih wood is including class II of wood strength, that have value of density substance is 1.5 and including class I of grade durability with percentage of weight lose about 0.3-0.6%. The smallest value of attack intensity is in the wooden base and the largest is in the end of the wood.
Soft Listeria: actin-based propulsion of liquid drops
We study the motion of oil drops propelled by actin polymerization in cell
extracts. Drops deform and acquire a pear-like shape under the action of the
elastic stresses exerted by the actin comet. We solve this free boundary
problem and calculate the drop shape taking into account the elasticity of the
actin gel and the variation of the polymerization velocity with normal stress.
The pressure balance on the liquid drop imposes a zero propulsive force if
gradients in surface tension or internal pressure are not taken into account.
Quantitative parameters of actin polymerization are obtained by fitting theory
to experiment.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figure
Sustainable Roof Systems: Design Report
This report describes the design of a prefabricated sustainable roof system for LionForce Systems. While being economical, environmentally sustainable, aesthetically pleasing, and easy to assemble on site, the design includes a sturdy and durable roof-to-wall joint that minimizes waste, insulates the interior, and locks out moisture. In addition, the design facilitates a 20-foot unsupported roof span and a 4-foot overhang beyond the exterior wall, with allowances for variation in roof pitch. The roof-to-wall joint was successfully designed and prototyped with less than half the $1200 allowable budget using galvanized steel with Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) insulation
The Effect of Mobile Banking on the Performance of Commercial Banks in Nigeria
Today, commercial banks are confronted with challenges that range from debt crises to the tight competition in the market. Customers\u27 impatience has increased considerably as they are more knowledgeable than before. Thus, the introduction of mobile services in the banking industry has added to the challenges facing commercial banks as they have to embrace the new technology or lose business. Mobile banking in Nigeria has completely transformed the banking industry and any commercial bank operating in Nigeria can only ignore that fact at its own risk. This study, therefore, aims to investigate the mobile banking effects on Commercial Banks financial performance in Nigeria. Simple random techniques were employed in this study in selecting 22 commercial banks. To facilitate the obtaining of relevant data that was used for analysis in this study, a structured questionnaire was used. Descriptive statistics involving simple graphical charts was applied in the presentation and analysis of data. The study, therefore, concludes that mobile banking positively and significantly affects the financial performance of commercial banks in Nigeria. The study recommends that commercial banks should keep adopting and using mobile banking in their operations because the number of people with access to a mobile handset is increasing every day
The Impact of Microfinance Institution on Development of Small and Medium Enterprises: a Case Study of Lagos State
The major target of this study is to evaluate the effect of Microfinance Institution (MFIs) on the development of SMEs (Small and medium enterprises) in Lagos state Nigeria. Simple random techniques of sampling were employed in this study in selecting 70 SMEs which constituted the size of the sample of the research. To facilitate the obtaining of relevant data that was used for analysis in this study, a structured questionnaire was designed. Descriptive statistics involving simple graphical charts and tables were strategically applied in presentation and analysis of data. The outcome of the findings indicates that a large number of SMEs are benefiting from the loans granted by the MFIs, despite the fact that few of them have sufficient ability to secure the needed amount. Interestingly, most of the SMEs admit positive MFIs loans contribution towards advancing their market share, the economic competitive advantage of the company and achieving market excellence through product innovation
