Surface Properties of SiCp/Al Composite by Powder-Mixed EDM
AbstractThis paper uses a kind of moderate volume fraction (40%) of SiC particle reinforced Al matrix composites (SiCp/Al) to research how the surface properties are affected in conventional EDM (EDM) and powder-mixed EDM (PMEDM). By means of environment scanning electron microscope (ESEM) and HIT friction and wear tester, surface micro-topography, elements and wear resistance were analyzed. Experiments and researches indicate that compared with EDM, the surface properties machined by using PMEDM are improved greatly. The PMEDM surface roughness decreases about 31.5%; corrosion resistance is better too; and wear resistance is twice of EDM. From the zero-field metal-insulator transition in two dimensions to the quantum Hall transition: a percolation-effective-medium theory
Effective-medium theory is applied to the percolation description of the
metal-insulator transition in two dimensions with emphasis on the continuous
connection between the zero-magnetic-field transition and the quantum Hall
transition. In this model the system consists of puddles connected via saddle
points, and there is loss of quantum coherence inside the puddles. The
effective conductance of the network is calculated using appropriate
integration over the distribution of conductances, leading to a determination
of the magnetic field dependence of the critical density. Excellent
quantitative agreement is obtained with the experimental data, which allows an
estimate of the puddle physical parameters
Freeze-drying of ampicillin solid lipid nanoparticles using mannitol as cryoprotectant
abstract Solid lipid nanoparticles (SLNs) are interesting colloidal drug-delivery systems, since they have all the advantages of the lipid and polymeric nanoparticles. Freeze-drying is a widely used process for improving the stability of SLNs. Cryoprotectants have been used to decrease SLN aggregations during freeze-drying. In this study Ampicillin was chosen to be loaded in a cholesterol carrier with nano size range. To support the stability of SLNs, freeze-drying was done using mannitol. Particle size, drug release profile and antibacterial effects were studied after freeze-drying in comparison with primary SLNs. Preparations with 5% mannitol showed the least particle size enlargement. The average particle size was 150 and 187 nm before and after freeze-drying, respectively. Freeze-drying did not affect the release profile of drug loaded nanopartilces. Also our study showed that lyophilization did not change the antimicrobial effect of ampicillin SLNs. Plant-plant competition influences temporal dynamism of soil microbial enzyme activity.
Root-derived compounds can change rates of soil organic matter decomposition (rhizosphere priming effects) through microbial production of extracellular enzymes. Such soil priming can be affected by plant identity and soil nutrient status. However, the effect of plant-plant competition on the temporal dynamics of soil organic matter turnover processes is not well understood. This study used zymography to detect the spatial and temporal pattern of cellulase and leucine aminopeptidase activity, two enzyme classes involved in soil organic matter turnover. The effect of plant-plant competition on enzyme activity was examined using barley (Hordeum vulgare) plants grown in i) isolation, ii) intra- and iii) inter-cultivar competition. The enzyme activities of leucine aminopeptidase and cellulase were measured from portions of the root system at 18, 25 and 33 days after planting, both along the root axis and in the root associated area with detectable enzyme activity. The activities of cellulase and leucine aminopeptidase were both strongly associated with plant roots, and increased over time. An increase in the area of cellulase activity around roots was delayed when plants were in competition compared to in isolation. A similar response was found for leucine aminopeptidase activity, but only when in intra-cultivar competition, and not when in inter-cultivar competition. Therefore, plant-plant competition had a differential effect on enzyme classes, which was potentially mediated through root exudate composition. This study demonstrates the influence of plant-plant competition on soil microbial activity and provides a potential mechanism by which temporal dynamism in plant resource capture can be mediated
Efficacy of Mindfulness-Based Interventions for Negative Symptoms in Patients Diagnosed with Schizophrenia: a Meta-analysis
Objectives Mindfulness-based interventions (MBIs) can effectively relieve negative symptoms in patients with schizophrenia. However, the effect size of MBIs and their potential influencing factors remain unclear. Methods We searched different databases and performed a meta-analysis to determine the efficacy of MBIs for the treatment of negative symptoms in schizophrenia. Standard mean differences (SMDs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated to assess effect sizes of MBIs for negative symptoms. Subgroup analysis and meta-regression analysis were used to explore the potential influencing factors of the pooled SMD of MBIs for negative symptoms. Results We identified 26 randomized controlled trials including 1725 individuals with schizophrenia. We observed a small-to-large effect size of MBIs for negative symptoms. The pooled SMD of MBIs for negative symptoms was - 0.59 (95% CI: - 0.87 to - 0.32), with a heterogeneity (I-2) of 83.6% (95% CI: 76.9 to 88.4%; p < 0.01) based on a random effects model. In the subgroup analysis, significant differences were found with "Different Geographical Location of Treatment Study" (p < 0.01) and "Different Lengths of MBIs treatment" (p = 0.02). Meta-regression analysis showed that publication year was a significant predictor of the effect size of MBIs for negative symptoms (p < 0.001). Conclusions We identified a small-to-large effect size of MBIs to relieve negative symptoms in patients with schizophrenia. The number of sessions and different cultures were associated with the efficacy of MBT for negative symptoms
