Chromosome XII context is important for rDNA function in yeast
The rDNA cluster in Saccharomyces cerevisiae is located 450 kb from the left end and 610 kb from the right end of chromosome XII and consists of ∼150 tandemly repeated copies of a 9.1 kb rDNA unit. To explore the biological significance of this specific chromosomal context, chromosome XII was split at both sides of the rDNA cluster and strains harboring deleted variants of chromosome XII consisting of 450 kb, 1500 kb (rDNA cluster only) and 610 kb were created. In the strain harboring the 1500 kb variant of chromosome XII consisting solely of rDNA, the size of the rDNA cluster was found to decrease as a result of a decrease in rDNA copy number. The frequency of silencing of URA3 inserted within the rDNA locus was found to be greater than in a wild-type strain. The localization and morphology of the nucleolus was also affected such that a single and occasionally (6–12% frequency) two foci for Nop1p and a rounded nucleolus were observed, whereas a typical crescent-shaped nucleolar structure was seen in the wild-type strain. Notably, strains harboring the 450 kb chromosome XII variant and/or the 1500 kb variant consisting solely of rDNA had shorter life spans than wild type and also accumulated extrachromosomal rDNA circles. These observations suggest that the context of chromosome XII plays an important role in maintaining a constant rDNA copy number and in physiological processes related to rDNA function in S.cerevisiae
Noncommutative Instantons on R^2_{NC} x R^2_C
We study U(1) and U(2) noncommutative instantons on R^2_{NC} x R^2_C based on
the ADHM construction. It is shown that a mild singularity in the instanton
solutions for both self-dual and anti-self-dual gauge fields always disappears
in gauge invariant quantities and thus physically regular solutions can be
constructed even though any projected states are not involved in the ADHM
construction. Furthermore the instanton number is also an integer.Comment: v2: 15 pages, 1 figure, Latex. Added comments for clarification.

Early Surgical Repair of Acute Complete Rupture of the Proximal Hamstring Tendons
Hamstring injuries are common forms of muscle strains in athletes but a complete rupture of a proximal hamstring origin is rare. Often there is a considerable delay in diagnosis and stringent treatment because of its rarity, difficulty in clinical diagnosis, and initial attempts of conservative care. We report two cases of acute complete rupture of the proximal hamstring tendons treated with early surgical repair. The diagnosis and treatment of this unusual injury are discussed
Primary Calcified T-Cell Lymphoma of the Urinary Bladder: A Case Report
Primary malignant lymphoma of the urinary bladder is extremely rare, and to our knowledge, no case described in the radiologic literature has been accompanied by calcification. We report a case in which the condition was associated with calcification, and describe the pelvic CT and MR imaging findings
Very Late Stent Thrombosis after Drug-Eluting Stent Implantation in a Patient without Aspirin and Clopidogrel Resistance
Very late stent thrombosis (VLST) after implantation of drug-eluting stent is rare, but very fatal complication after percutaneous coronary intervention. We report a case of VLST of a sirolimus-eluting Cypher™ stent (Cordis, Johnson and Johnson) presenting as acute ST elevation myocardial infarction at 26 months after deployment with continued combined dual antiplatelet medication of aspirin and clopidogrel. The patient did not show anti-platelet resistance
Phytoplankton community reorganization driven by eutrophication and warming in Lake Biwa
Abstract We compiled and analyzed long-term data, including chemical, physical and phytoplankton community data, for the Lake Biwa ecosystem from 1962 to 2003. Analyses on environmental data indicate that Lake Biwa had experienced intensified eutrophication (according to total phosphorus concentration) in the late 1960s and returned to a less eutrophic status around 1985, and then exhibited rapid warming and thus increased water column stability since 1990. Total phytoplankton cell volume largely followed the trend of total phosphorus concentration, albeit short-term fluctuations existed. However, phytoplankton community shifted dramatically in response to those changes of environmental states. These shifts were cause by changes in trophic status driven by phosphorus loadings and physical properties in the water column driven by warming. Moreover, most phytoplankton species did not show a strong linear correlation with environmental variables, suggesting nonlinear transitions among different states
