Testicular cancer, particularly seminoma, is associated with Down syndrome. In cognitively impaired patients, the typical presenting signs of testicular cancer may be missed, and atypical presenting features may be the only clue to the diagnosis. In this report, we present the case of a 38-year-old male who presented with extensive deep vein thrombosis in the setting of seminoma

Disease Prevalence Due to Human Respiratory Syncytial Virus (HRSV) and Molecular Nature of G Gene in Different Geographical Region of India: 2005-2022

Human respiratory syncytial virus (hRSV) is the leading pediatric respiratory pathogen with high morbidity in the first year of life. The morbidity is particularly high in developing countries. it is the most common cause of infant hospitalization and causes a high burden of disease in the elderly. India is a country with vast geographical differences their unique climatic conditions. So, the prevalence of human RSV in different geographical regions is partially understood for a long time.  This review was performed by using a different search engine like Google schooler, PubMed, etc. Significant prevalence and specific RSV virus strain circulation were major keywords used for the search in the Indian pediatric population. Annual incidence rates of RSV–associated hospitalization per 1000 children were highest among infants aged 0–5 months, followed by ages 6–23 months, and lowest among children 24–59 months. hRSV was a substantial cause of hospitalization among children aged < 24 months especially those aged <6 months. Prevalence varies from 2.1% to 44% in different geographical regions. hRSV has a more broadly distributed peak timing. numerous studies of the correlation between climatic factors and hRSV incidence across latitudes found variable and inconsistent correlations between hRSV incidence & temperature, and relative humidity in different parts of the tropical region. However, genotypes ON1, NA1, GA5, and GA2 in the hRSV-A group and group hRSV-B BA, BA9, and BA12 were predominantly circulated in India

Data on the impact of long term treatment with immunomodulatory drugs (IMiD) on health-related quality of life (HRQoL) is limited. The HOVON-87/NMSG18 study was a randomized, phase 3 study in newly diagnosed transplant ineligible patients with multiple myeloma, comparing melphalan-prednisolone in combination with thalidomide or lenalidomide, followed by maintenance therapy until progression (MPT-T or MPR-R). The EORTC QLQ-C30 and MY20 questionnaires were completed at baseline, after three and nine induction cycles and six and 12 months of maintenance therapy. Linear mixed models and minimal important differences were used for evaluation. 596 patients participated in HRQoL reporting. Patients reported clinically relevant improvement in global quality of life (QoL), future perspective and role and emotional functioning, and less fatigue and pain in both arms. The latter being of large effect size

A Review Study on Self Inflated Tyre System

Self-inflating tyres allow a vehicle to adjust to the current terrain for ideal performance and safety. This technology also enhances the safety feature of the vehicle as sudden tyre puncture can lead to road mishap. For this technology, pressure needs to be monitored continuously, i.e. pressure sensor needs to be present along with an external air source. The main aim is to spread and incorporate this technology in all public vehicles which was only present in commercial and military vehicles as of now

IMPLEMENTATION OF GEOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION SYSTEM IN MATERIAL MANAGEMENT AND SUPPLIER SELECTION IN THANE CITY – A CASE STUDY

    No full text
Material cost contributes 50% to 60% of the total cost of the project. Thus material forms the single largest component of the total cost of the construction activities. Improper selection of suppliers leads to problems related to material price, delivery, communication, quality, availability of materials on time etc. and its adverse effect on the cost of project. Thus, there arises the need of ideal supplier for avoiding time and cost overrun. It can be possible to select the ideal supplier with the help of several supplier selection methods but these traditional methods fails to collect correct information of all the suppliers also it takes more time to collect such information manually. With the help of data base management tools the collection of required supplier data like personal details, cost of materials, quantity, quality, delivery address, location, discount, transportation facility, communication facility etc. would be less or no time consuming. Hence GIS is a powerful set of tools for collecting, storing and quantifying all data of all suppliers and easily screen all suppliers in very short time. This paper suggest that the proposed Arc GIS 10.0 based methodology may replace the manual methods to extract supplier’s information from the available data base , locate location of suppliers and ideal suppliers by developing queries in very short time

Structural comparisons of the binding cores formed by 1,3-di-Amide derivatives of p-tert-Butylcalix[4]arene: arms stabilization through Intra-molecular interactions including N-H***O, O-H***Cl and π***Cl types

his paper deals with the development of a receptor with selectively functionalized at the lower rim of p-tert-butyl calix[4]arene linked through amide bond, resulting in the diamide derivatives (L 1 , L 2 and L 3 ) suitable for sensing ions and molecules. All the derivatives were thoroughly characterized by analytical and spectral methods. These derivatives were structurally characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction and the conformational features of the calix[4]arene as well as the pendants are discussed. The L 1 and L 2 exhibited intramolecular hydrogen bond interaction between the N-H and the lower rim phenolic oxygen in addition to the circular hydrogen bonding between the phenolic O-H and the ether oxygen of the adjacent strand. The corresponding H-bond is absent when no 'H' is present on amide-N as in case of L 3 . Such intramolecular N-H***O interactions observed with the pendant results in a conformational bend responsible for the orientation of the arms and there by the nature of the binding core formed. Thus the binding cores formed differ largely between L 3 and the other two

In vitro protection of umbilical cord blood–derived primitive hematopoietic stem progenitor cell pool by mannose-specific lectins via antioxidant mechanisms

BACKGROUND: Earlier we reported that an oral administration of two mannose-specific dietary lectins, banana lectin (BL) and garlic lectin (GL), led to an enhancement of hematopoietic stem and progenitor cell (HSPC) pool in mice. STUDY DESIGN AND METHODS: Cord blood–derived CD34+ HSPCs were incubated with BL, GL, Dolichos lectin (DL), or artocarpin lectin (AL) for various time periods in a serum- and growth factor–free medium and were subjected to various functional assays. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels were detected by using DCHFDA method. Cell fractionation was carried out using lectin-coupled paramagnetic beads. RESULTS: CD34+ cells incubated with the lectins for 10 days gave rise to a significantly higher number of colonies compared to the controls, indicating that all four lectins possessed the capacity to protect HSPCs in vitro. Comparative analyses showed that the protective ability of BL and GL was better than AL and DL and, therefore, further experiments were carried out with them. The output of long-term culture-initiating cell (LTC-IC) and extended LTC-IC assays indicated that both BL and GL protected primitive stem cells up to 30 days. The cells incubated with BL or GL showed a substantial reduction in the ROS levels, indicating that these lectins protect the HSPCs via antioxidant mechanisms. The mononuclear cell fraction isolated by lectin-coupled beads got enriched for primitive HSPCs, as reflected in the output of phenotypic and functional assays. CONCLUSION: The data show that both BL and GL protect the primitive HSPCs in vitro and may also serve as cost-effective HSPC enrichment tools

An Interesting Pathological Diagnosis – Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma in an Adolescent Girl

    No full text
Adenoid cystic carcinomas (ACCs) constitute 0.1–1 % of all malignant breast tumors. They have better prognosis than other breast malignancies. To date, there have been about 933 cases reported as per English literature. To the best of our knowledge, this case may be the second well-documented case of ACC of breast at younger age
