    Exact Eigenfunctions of NN-Body system with Quadratic Pair Potential

    We obtain all the exact eigenvalues and the corresponding eigenfunctions of NN-body Bose and Fermi systems with Quadratic Pair Potentials in one dimension. The originally existed first excited state level is missing in one dimension, which results from the operation of symmetry or antisymmetry of identical particles. In two and higher dimensions, we give all the eigenvalues and the analytical ground state wave functions and the number of degeneracy. Through the comparison with Avinash Khare's results, we have perfected his results.Comment: 7 pages,1 figur

    Yang-Mills Interactions and Gravity in Terms of Clifford Algebra

    A model of Yang-Mills interactions and gravity in terms of the Clifford algebra Cl(0,6) is presented. The gravity and Yang-Mills actions are formulated as different order terms in a generalized action. The feebleness of gravity as well as the smallness of the cosmological constant and theta terms are discussed at the classical level. The invariance groups, including the de Sitter and the Pati-Salam SU(4) subgroups, consist of gauge transformations from either side of an algebraic spinor. Upon symmetry breaking via the Higgs fields, the remaining symmetries are the Lorentz SO(1,3), color SU(3), electromagnetic U(1)_EM, and an additional U(1). The first generation leptons and quarks are identified with even and odd parts of spinor idempotent projections. There are still several shortcomings with the current model.     Kondo Effect of Quantum Dots in the Quantum Hall Regime

    Quantum dots in the quantum Hall regime can have pairs of single Slater determinant states that are degenerate in energy. We argue that these pairs of many body states may give rise to a Kondo effect which can be mapped into an ordinary Kondo effect in a fictitious magnetic field. We report on several properties of this Kondo effect using scaling and numerical renormalization group analysis. We suggest an experiment to investigate this Kondo effect.Comment: To appear in Phys.     3D FEA modelling of laminated composites in bending and their failure mechanisms

    keywords: 3D keywords: 3D keywords: 3D keywords: 3D keywords: 3DAbstract This paper developed three-dimensional (3D) Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to investigate the effect of fibre lay-up on the initiation of failure of laminated composites in bending. Tsai-Hill failure criterion was applied to identify the critical areas of failure in composite laminates. In accordance with the 3D FEA, unidirectional ([0]16), cross-ply ([0/90]4s) and angle-ply ([±45]4s) laminates made up of pre-preg Carbon Fibre Reinforced Plastics (CFRP) composites were manufactured and tested under three-point bending. The basic principles of Classical Laminate Theory (CLT) were extended to three-dimension, and the analytical solution was critically compared with the FEA results. The 3D FEA results revealed significant transverse normal stresses in the cross-ply laminate and in-plane shear stress in the angle-ply laminate near free edge regions which are overlooked by conventional laminate model. The microscopic images showed that these free edge effects were the main reason for stiffness reduction observed in the bending tests. The study illustrated the significant effects of fibre lay-up on the flexural failure mechanisms in composite laminates which lead to some suggestions to improve the design of composite laminates

    We study a differentiated product market in which an investor initially owns a controlling stake in one of two competing firms and may acquire a non-controlling or a controlling stake in a competitor, either directly using her own assets, or indirectly via the controlled firm. While industry profits are maximized within a symmetric two product monopoly, the investor attains this only in exceptional cases. Instead, she sometimes acquires a noncontrolling stake. Or she invests asymmetrically rather than pursuing a full takeover if she acquires a controlling one.     The ARGO-YBJ Experiment Progresses and Future Extension

    Gamma ray source detection above 30TeV is an encouraging approach for finding galactic cosmic ray origins. All sky survey for gamma ray sources using wide field of view detector is essential for population accumulation for various types of sources above 100GeV. To target the goals, the ARGO-YBJ experiment has been established. Significant progresses have been made in the experiment. A large air shower detector array in an area of 1km2 is proposed to boost the sensitivity. Hybrid detection with multi-techniques will allow a good discrimination between different types of primary particles, including photons and protons, thus enable an energy spectrum measurement for individual specie. Fluorescence light detector array will extend the spectrum measurement above 100PeV where the second knee is located. An energy scale determined by balloon experiments at 10TeV will be propagated to ultra high energy cosmic ray experiments

    The energy spectrum of all-particle cosmic rays around the knee region observed with the Tibet-III air-shower array

    We have already reported the first result on the all-particle spectrum around the knee region based on data from 2000 November to 2001 October observed by the Tibet-III air-shower array. In this paper, we present an updated result using data set collected in the period from 2000 November through 2004 October in a wide range over 3 decades between 101410^{14} eV and 101710^{17} eV, in which the position of the knee is clearly seen at around 4 PeV. The spectral index is -2.68 ±\pm 0.02(stat.) below 1PeV, while it is -3.12 ±\pm 0.01(stat.) above 4 PeV in the case of QGSJET+HD model, and various systematic errors are under study now.Comment: 12 pages, 7 figures, accepted by Advances in space researc

    Observing Direct CP Violation in Untagged B-Meson Decays

    Direct CP violation can exist in untagged B-meson decays to self-conjugate, three-particle final states; it would be realized as a population asymmetry in the untagged decay rate across the mirror line of the Dalitz plot of the three-body decay. We explore the numerical size of this direct CP-violating effect in a variety of B-meson decays to three pseudoscalar mesons; we show that the resulting asymmetry is comparable to the partial rate asymmetry in the analogous tagged decays, making the search for direct CP violation in the untagged decay rate, for which greater statistics accrue, advantageous.Comment: 31 pages, REVTeX4, 1 eps figure, references added, typos corrected, version to appear in PR

    Convoluted models & high-Weissenberg predictions for micellar thixotropic fluids in contraction-expansion flows

    This study is concerned with finite element/volume modelling of contraction-expansion axisymmetric pipe flows for thixotropic and non-thixotropic viscoelastic models. To obtain solutions at high Weissenberg numbers (Wi) under a general differential form , both thixotropic Bautista-Manero micellar and non-thixotropic EPTT f-functionals have been investigated. Here, three key modifications have been implemented: first, that of convoluting EPTT and micellar Bautista-Manero f-functionals, either in a multiplicative (Conv*) or additive (Conv+) form; second, by adopting f-functionals in absolute form (ABS-f-correction); and third, by imposing pure uniaxial-extension velocity-gradient components at the pure-stretch flow-centreline (VGR-correction). With this combination of strategies, highly non-linear solutions have been obtained to impressively high Wi [=O(5000+)].This capability permits analysis of industrial applications, typically displaying non-linear features such as thixotropy, yield stress and shear banding. The scope of applications covers enhanced oil- recovery, industrial processing of plastics and foods, as well as in biological and microfluidic flows. The impact of rheological properties across convoluted models (moderate-hardening, shear-thinning) has been observed through steady-state solutions and their excess pressure-drop (epd) production, stress, f-functional field structure, and vortex dynamics. Three phases of vortex-behaviour have been observed with rise in elasticity, along with upstream-downstream Moffatt vortices and plateauing epd-behaviour at high-Wi levels. Moreover, enhancement of positive-definiteness in stress has improved high-Wi solution attenuation
